Is there anything more un-American than burning books?
I suppose though when you're running for Secretary of State and no one has ever heard of you before, you'd better do something to get some attention. In this case, Valentina Gomez decided taking what appears to be a homemade flamethrower to some LGBTQ library books would be just the ticket.
From the scant information I have gleaned from perusing the internet, she's hardcore MAGA (of course), was lately seen harassing Nikki Haley in Iowa, and is running against some other Republicans, State Senators and such, who also have low state-wide profiles. (There don't seem to be any Democrats running.) As often happens, politicians use the Secretary of State position to later run for even higher office, as Jay Ashcroft is doing now, running for Governor. So who knows, maybe a few years down the road Missouri will have an official state policy of burning library books. Maybe they'll even change their nickname from the Show Me State to the Show Me You're Stupid State.

One Missouri GOP candidate has incorporated book burning into her campaign. Valentina Gomez, who is running for secretary of state, posted a video of herself burning public library books with a flamethrower.
In her video, Gomez stated she was burning “grooming” books from a Missouri public library, and would be burning more if elected. A library catalogue label can be seen attached to at least one of the burning books.
A sign with what appears to be the words, “liberal tears,” was attached to the flamethrower Gomez used to admittedly destroy public property. Intentionally burning library books could be considered a crime. The end of the video labels Gomez’s book-burning video as an official campaign ad.
The two books that Gomez burned were Queer, The Ultimate LGBTQ Guide for Teens and Naked: Not Your Average Sex Encyclopedia. MAGA Republicans have complained about LGBTQ+ books in schools and some have pushed for laws banning all sex education books, labelling them all, “grooming.”
