A New York Times article has confirmed what I’ve long suspected: Jennifer Hegseth has installed herself at the Pentagon, essentially, to make sure Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth can do his job. That includes keeping the known boozer from hitting the sauce. Supposedly.

Jennifer Hegseth’s only qualifications for her position are being Pete Hegseth’s third wife and second (as far as we know) baby mama. Prior to that, she worked as a Fox News producer for 18 years. There is no indication that she ever served in the military or has a security clearance. Yet she has wormed her way into proceedings where she would not belong were it not for being her hubby’s emotional support creature.

For example, The Times noted that for some reason, she was included in the infamous Signalgate chat in which Hubby Hegseth shared attack plans against Houthis in Yemen. She was also part of what The Times described as “a highly sensitive meeting with her husband and top British defense officials after the United States temporarily stopped sharing military intelligence with Ukraine.” Because her presence made them uneasy, “The British spoke in general terms,” The Times reported. “Later they had a smaller meeting, without her, to go into detail.”

“Her involvement in the Defense Department is so unusual that it has led to questions about Mr. Hegseth’s leadership,” The Times said. Ya think?

The Times went on to say, “One person familiar with Mr. Hegseth’s thinking said that the defense secretary likes his wife to travel with him to keep him out of trouble. Mr. Hegseth, who has a history of heavy drinking, has himself made clear he needs his wife at his side.” The article quoted him as having said, "My Jenny, my wife, Jennifer, changed my life, saved me, there’s just no doubt about it.” Without her and Jesus, he reportedly said, he would never have been nominated as secretary of defense.

Look, good on him for loving his wife so much (though not enough to avoid cheating on her in an alleged act of rape). But if he’s too insecure, too needy, too incompetent or too drunk to do his job without her, he shouldn’t be in that job at all.
