During the ridiculous Republican Midterm Election Convention, Trump vowed to give every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of Congress in November.
This is straight-up bribery in my opinion, but with a mealymouthed Republican Congress, and a corrupt Supreme Court, Demented Donald knows he can get away with almost anything. A $1.5 Trillion expenditure with a $40 Trillion national debt might stop at least a few Republican senators, however.
During his diatribe he lied, saying the US economy is greater than ever before.
TRUMP: Only I can make this promise to you. And here is my promise. If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them... I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5000.
This is a scheme that's much worse than when white supremacist Elon Musk spent over $270 million to get Trump elected in 2024.
The New York Times reports that some analysts have said since Trump is claiming the monies are a tax dividend, it would be hard to prove bribery. Trump made the funds available to buy votes and he said it out loud. That's bribery. Not to mention that a dividend suggests a surplus, not the largest deficit we've had in history.
Trump has mined murky waters again to find a rule that he can violate knowing he has the high court in his pocket.
In one respect the Senate must approve all budgetary requests so Trump cannot wave his magic executive order pen around and get it done. He'd need far more Senators than he's going to have.
Would Republicans pass such a sham? There is not much wiggle room in their numbers.
The cost will be roughly $1.5 trillion that would add on to the already bloated $40 trillion federal deficit.
This would skyrocket inflation again and force an increase in interest rates, making the bribe meaningless.
Republicans could no longer blame Democrats on out of control spending, not that they can now. Not after the Big Ugly Bill.
But they'd lie anyway. Trump lies so much there is little chance he would remember it, much less follow up on it. Remember the $5K DOGE payout? Still looking for that check.
Trump is running out of schemes to steal the midterms.
