If there's one thing that Donald J. Trump is actually good at, it's taking any situation, no matter how sacred or somber, and making it about himself.
The tragically infamous 9/11 terrorist attack against this nation is no exception to that rule.
Over the years, the president has spun many a wild web with respect to his actions and alleged involvement during and throughout the days after the September 11, 2001 attack that claimed nearly 3,000 victims, shook New York to its core, and altered the course of this entire country. With the anniversary of the tragedy hanging over the nation's head, President Trump has begun to add to his ever-expanding personal 9/11 mythology that isn't supported by even an ounce of genuine evidence.
And it seems that his own nephew has had enough.
Back on his 2016 campaign trail, Trump claimed that he grabbed an entire construction crew and went to Ground Zero "a couple of days after" the attack. That is when he first claimed firefighters rescued him after the U.S. Steel Building, now called One Liberty Plaza, supposedly began to creak.
That story had already begun to mutate by 2021, when the president added more vivid details of his rescue, claiming he was literally, physically lifted from the scene.
Now, in 2026, he has only added more self-exalting embellishments to his story, saying at a White House event earlier this week:
The United States Steel building was creaking, really creaking, and we thought it was going to fall down. The truth is, it creaked a lot. It creaked. It still creaks, but it never came down. And I’ll never forget two firemen. We thought it was coming down on top of us, and two firemen, big strong guys. And I’m not the smallest guy in the world. They grabbed me under the arm, said, ‘Got to get out of here.’ And they literally lifted me up. This is not easy to do. I’m big. They lifted me up, and they started running with me. I said, ‘Fellas, I can run myself,’ but they were amazing.
The president's hubris and egotism were apparently more than his own nephew could handle without speaking up.
Taking to X, Fred Trump -- the son of Donald's older brother, Fred Trump Jr., and author of the tell-all "All In The Family" -- set his sights on his shameless uncle, ripping his 9/11 story to shreds.
"There are two reports out today that relate to the tragedy of 9/11. I will comment on them today because doing so on the 25th anniversary this Friday would take away from the solemn memories," Fred opened his post. "I try not to comment personally about my uncle, but his claim that he brought a crew of workers to help at the site so offends me that I need to speak out."
Pointing to his uncle's recent claims that he was building a "big building" in New York City at the time of the attack, Fred wrote, "He was not."
"The only crew he claimed to bring to the site would have been secretarial and accounting employees from Trump Tower I knew many of them, and pretty sure they were not capable physically to help (if they could, I am sure they would try)."
He goes on to further pick apart his uncle's outlandish claims about the US Steel building, writing, "the grandfather of a very close friend of mine was one of the original engineers- the bldg was built strong. Second, the brother of a partner of mine was an engineer that was immediately called to perform an inspection. While people were originally concerned, it was eventually cleared for occupancy- not creaking and ready to fall. I hope this brings some truth to that story."

Even the White House can't seem to back up anything Trump has claimed, instead resorting to their customary onslaught of nasty insults lobbed against anyone who might dare ask for a shred of proof:

The president has confirmed in recent weeks that he won't even be showing up to the Ground Zero memorial event on the anniversary of the tragic attack, and will instead be marking 9/11 at the Pentagon. Reports indicate he will skip the main anniversary event in New York after organizers refused to let him speak. The main event also appears to interfere with his golf travel plans.
