Conservative radio host Mark Levin recently blasted President Barack Obama for what he said was a policy of "an abortion in every household" with his health care reform law.

During the debate over the Affordable Care Act in 2009, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) attempted to derail negotiations with an amendment that forced lawmakers and their personal staff to use the same insurance exchanges as other Americans. But Democrats called Grassley's bluff and declined to vote down the amendment, which made it into the final version of the law.

Last week, the Office of Personnel Management said that it would continue kicking in its share of premiums for the staffers who were being forced to leave the federal system and join the public exchanges. But because those are private insurance plans, the companies have the option of offering abortion benefits, which were not available under federal coverage.

So Grassley, who opposes abortion, may have effectively provided abortion coverage -- with his political stunt -- to many federal employees who would not have otherwise have had it.

But on his Friday radio show, Levin blamed the president for the situation.

"You know, it used to be a chicken in every pot, well, under this administration, it's an abortion in every household," Levin opined. "So the cycle of death, the mindset of death that is liberalism is proposed and promoted at every turn."
