(Holly Miranda - don't let the innocent face fool you - exquisite mayhem of the musical kind)
Catching up to the present day this week and putting Doo-Wop on the back burner for a while. I've been e-mailing my friend Mig Schillace back and forth the past few months, talking about just how many great bands there are in England and the rest of Europe at the moment. He has pointed out to me that there is just as much a reservoir of amazing talent to be had here as there is over there. Since he's been associated with one of the most influential bands of the past twenty years, Portishead, he knows of what he speaks.
So naturally, a little exploring on MySpace yields Holly Miranda, a woman whose music is so riveting and gorgeous that I am more amazed to learn she's from Detroit (my home town) via Brooklyn and several points in-between. Mig was right.
This track, Joints is off her new album which is either just out or just about to come out. Check out her MySpace page as she's currently touring around the country right now and it would do no end of wonders to check her out live. I know she's playing in L.A. in the next few days (March 12th) and if she is anything live like she is on this track, she's a must-see.
Have a listen and lend her some support. Further evidence there is great stuff happening everywhere. Consider that a big relief.
