I've never really listened to much Lyle Lovett, but every time I hear this song my ears perk up and I find myself humming it for a while. It could be that I'm drawn to it because I-like the narrator- know what it's like to live in my own mind. You can find it on 2003's My Baby Don't Tolerate, which is widely considered to be a flop amongst his hardcore fans. The dream sequence video is pretty cool and might provide a bit of insight as to what goes on under those legendary locks.
