Per iCasualties, the total number of allied service members killed in Afghanistan is now 3237.

In addition, the following notable names have lost their lives this week:

Politician Hilmar Moore, Kentucky state rep Paul Marcotte, football player Larry Lawrence, world's oldest person Besse Cooper, Texas politician Jack Brooks, philanthropist (and mother of Rupert) Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, punk musician Sarah Kirsch, MS state senator Alice Harden and jazz pianist Dave Brubeck.
