Sting -- Russians

I was at the doctor's office last week and reading a back issue of Vanity Fair in the waiting room. They had a Jonathan Alter feature on Hillary Clinton's punishing work as Secretary of State, often logging tens of thousands of air miles in a single week. There was a single sentence that stood out to me as the understatement of the century:

The most common sentiment among foreign-policy veterans reflects another familiar Bill Clinton line: “It sure was simpler during the Cold War.”

The issue of Palestinian statehood has been an issue for generations upon generations and reflects both the good and bad intentions of many parties. And at its core, it's the seeking of respect and recognition. Sadly, both parties are so entrenched in their own individual narratives that they just can't seem to bridge that divide. Maybe they should look at Sting's contribution to ending the Cold War.

The Palestinian application for full statehood at the UN will be of discussion on This Week, Meet the Press and Fareed Zakaria GPS. Campaigner Obama is also in full swing with adviser David Plouffe making three appearances. And Mitch Daniels tries to come back from his Daily Show humiliation on State of the Union. Meanwhile, Chris Matthews and his panel of pundits note that the bloom is off that Texas rose, Rick Perry.

ABC's "This Week" - White House adviser David Plouffe; British Prime Minister David Cameron; Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization's executive committee.

NBC's "Meet the Press" - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg; University of Miami President Donna Shalala; former Education Secretary William Bennett; Special Olympics chief executive officer Tim Shriver.

NBC's "The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Helene Cooper, Andrew Sullivan, Gloria Borger, Michael Gerson. Topics: Obama wants to repeal the Bush era tax cuts for those making more than $250K; Is Perry losing steam? Was Thursday's debate a turning point for Romney? Will the President's proposals on taxing the wealthy get him votes in 2012? YES: 8 NO: 4; Is Rick Perry Ronald Reagan, 1980? YES: 1 No: 11

CBS' "Face the Nation" - Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, head of the Democratic National Committee; Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee.

CNN's "State of the Union" - Plouffe; Gov. Mitch Daniels, R-Ind.; Sens. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Mark Warner, D-Va.

CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, President of the European Commission José Manuel Durão Barroso, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
