Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread
Not necessarily apropos of our normal Sunday fare, but it appealed to me because I'm an inveterate doodler with a large pad of sticky notes next to my desktop, often making little animated flipbooks to entertain my kids. In any event, it was a lot more entertaining to watch Jeff Chiba Stearns' animation than to contemplate this Sunday's shows.
The ubiquitous Holy Joe Lieberman is on FOXNews Sunday, undoubtedly to agree with William Kristol that we can't leave Iraq. Will Chris Wallace ask him how he feels about Maliki agreeing with Obama's plan? Al Gore is following up his appearance at NetrootsNation with an appearance on Meet the Press. Somehow I don't see Tom Brokaw treating him quite as well as we liberal bloggers did.
ABC's "This Week" - Pre-empted by coverage of the British Open golf tournament.
CBS' "Face the Nation" - Sen. Barack Obama; Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.
NBC's "Meet the Press" - Former Vice President Al Gore.
CNN's "Late Edition" - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.; Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.; Paulson.
"Fox News Sunday" - Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Sens. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., and Evan Bayh, D-Ind.; Earl Morse, founder of Honor Flight, a program of free flights for World War II veterans.
"The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Dan Rather, Kelly O'Donnell, Cynthia Tucker, Howard Fineman. Topics: Can McCain sell himself as the true change agent? Does Bush need McCain to win to bolster his own legacy? Meter Questions: Can McCain capture the "change" label from Obama? YES: 2 NO: 10; Will Hillary get on board convincingly for Obama? YES: 9 No: 3

Thought some people might find this interesting this morning:
Zogby 50 State electoral Map
McCain: 160
Obama: 273:
To close to call: 105
Mugsy @ 1:
Follow-up:
If McCain won every "Too close" state, he'd still loose to Obama.
Among states "Too close to call", McCain's home state of Arizona.
And we haven't had even the first debate yet.
Mugsy @ 2:
Do the people of Arizona know McNasty better than us, and the wider American public !!!
I'd like you to read an open letter I posted this morning both on y blog and on DailyKos. Please read it. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008/07/open-letter-to-markos-moulitsas-zuniga.html
President Elect Al Gore. Just think where we'd be right now, if that office were not usurped.
I can never figure out why in the world anyone watches these shows. It's always politicians doing what they do best: lying, or pundits pontificating on subjects that they no next to nothing about. Where's the fun in that?
Dave @ 6:
The real fun is catching those lies. :)
But if you're not into that, at least catch Gore on MtP.
It's been 2,498 days since George WMD Bush said he'd catch Osama bin Laden Dead or Alive??? ??? ??? "Evidence linking these Israelis to 9/11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It's classified information." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWpWc_suPWo -- US official quoted in Carl Cameron's Fox News report on the Israeli spy ring and its connections to 9-11.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*cough* New Pearl Harbor *cough*
But if you’re not into that, at least catch Gore on MtP.
Why? Do you think that Al Gore never lies? Is he the second coming? He's as bought and paid for as any of the other politicians.
This is an article from the UK Guardian.
Looks like most of the world has already decided who they want for US President.

Europe will welcome Barack Obama as the saviour of democratic virtues, values which too many of our leaders have ignored

President Obama is finally coming to Europe! All right, the Americans haven't elected him ... yet. But that's a mere technicality as far as we're concerned. We made up our minds long ago: our President is Barack Obama.
This week, Senator Obama will be giving a speech in Berlin, the headquarters of his biggest fan-base on the old continent. The Germans are rooting for America's Democratic nominee with a fervour they otherwise reserve for the Dalai Lama or Nelson Mandela, bringing a distinctly wistful glint to the eyes of German politicians. Take Germany's foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, a laconic Westphalian not known for flights of emotional exuberance. Even he, speaking at Harvard, could not resist bursting into an impassioned cry of: 'Yes, we can!
I wonder how much BS will be slung at Obama.
♫..Bangkok Bob..♫ @ 10:
thta means the american media will work even harder to destroy the democratic candidate. then they will punish the american people for voting for a democrat. and of course, the will punish the democrat for being elected.
Fox is about to do a story accusing (maybe) the other networks of "political bias". :)

Plenty ... I and some Brits were sitting having a few brews earlier this evening and the question arose that why in the face of all his gaffs is McCain still given a pass on anything substantial.
Is it because he was captured in another wrong war and tortured?
(even though he now seems to embrace the idea of torture)
Has Cindi's money corrupted him or is that just some natural kind of Washingtonian evolution.
Mugsy @ 13:
They must be serving the cool-aid again. I wonder what colour it is this time.
Debbie Schlussel is one stoopid RW bovine, and her blog supporters are dense and worse beyond belief.

McKeatingFive? corrupt? nnnnoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
;<[)
Listening to Wallace lead Adm Mullen is almost obscene:
Wallace keeps asking Mullen to comment on "if he were told to start pulling out troops now... regardless of conditions on the ground".
Of course, Obama has never said this, but that's apparently irrelevant.

luckily my coffee cup needs refilling, and the cat is asleep on the rat cage not bugging me at the moment.
ferrofluid (Obama 08) @ 16:
HAHA !!! they slammed the "musical" Mama-Mia as a Homo movie.
Bigotry and stupidity are alive and well.
Anybody considering buying some ASF Rats (Nataal), get two males OR two females, and as young as possible.
these things are used as feeder rats in the reptile trade and have an exponential potential.
Quite cute and smell free, but not very tame and good jumpers, small rats which are gerbilish.
Ours are not biters, but they have a reputation for biting if not handled daily to tame them.

Some thing are timeless and immortal, Republican stupidity and corruption (physically and morally) being one of them.
or two of them, or three, or...

I hope you also have some snakes. Otherwise ??????
♫..Bangkok Bob..♫ @ 26:
no just two female AFSs, cute little SOBs, manic wheel users so need two wheel or they get clown like flipping each other out of the wheel.
Chunky gerbil size and nice pets.
Lieberman on FnS: "If we had listened to Senator Obama... al Qaeda would be in control of large swaths of Iraq."
ASFs also do the gerbil group 'huddle' when theres a good storm coming, so handy barometers.
Mugsy @ 28:
Did he really mean to say
'If we had listened to Chimpy, then AlQ would be in conrtrol of large parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan...'
♫..Bangkok Bob..♫ @ 14:
maybe McNasty is the preferred candidate of the corporate MSM MIC war machine, endless war and profits until they all get ruptured...
Hume says "the Media" is treating Obama "like some sort of savior" of the U.S..
Looks like Fox is using Lieberman to represent the Republicans. That‘s a huge step for them.
Chris Matthews: Topics: Can McCain sell himself as the true change agent?
This would be the best sales campaign ever – painting the Same candidate as change. The candidate who has been entrenched in the government for decades and has voted with his party (the one currently in power) 95% of the time this millennium.
If they pull this off and we buy it, we will have answered that 4-year old Daily Mirror question. Yes 59 million Americans ARE that dumb. (We know 30% of Americans still are)
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 11:
You are right. Relevant questions should be asked of Obama such as how he believes leaving close to 100,000 troops in Iraq after his phased [not immediate] withdrawal plan is finally complete is supposed to somehow win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. Will he be asked how removing those troops over a 16 month period is somehow supporting those troops, as the longer they are forced to remain in that slaughterhouse, the greater the chance that more of them will be returning to this country paralyzed from the neck down, horribly disfigured, blinded, missing an arm and/or a leg, and suffering from the effects of PTSD. He should be asked how shifting 10,000 troops to Afghanistan is supposed to somehow placate the [justifiable] fears of the Afghanis that more American soldiers means that more American bombs will be obliterating Afghan villages and homes. Obama should be asked why an Iraqi should not have to die fighting for his country but that it is somehow acceptable that an Afghani can be torn asunder by American bombs and bullets. Or is it considered unpatriotic to dare ask these questions of the [alleged] agent of hope and change?
A couple of times, the FnS "Power Panel" referred to a recent poll that showed more people believed McCain would make "a better Commander in Chief" (70%) than Obama (48%) - (my numbers may not be exact).
Now, you too may have noticed these numbers don't equal 100%. There is overlap. So obviously, most Democrats were willing to say "McCain would make a good CiC", but 30% of Republicans refused to show Obama the same consideration.
This poll doesn't say anything about McCain as CiC as much as it says about partisan Republicans.
Here is where the Money comes from for the two candidates:
Obama

McSame

Candidate self-financing $0 0%
Federal Funds $0 0%
Other $13,667,709 11%

Kristol: "Time Horizons" (quote) "very different" from "time tables".
Hume: "Remember what Horizon means: as far as the eye can see. That's not much change."
Has anyone ever - EVER - seen NBC's Kelly O'Donnell do any actual reporting?
All I've ever seen her do is parrot back McSame's talking points - and then only after she buffs and polishes them up.
Just what we nee - another republican sycophant masquerading as "liberal" MSM while carrying their water.
34 Erroll Says: i canot understand why people are so sold on obama , or why they want to vote for more war and criminals in our government, as sequoia says obamas declareing hes going to pull out american troops from iran in 16 months is just more bullshit, hes said thier will still be 100,000 troops left in iraq, thoes bases we built will still be there ,still be protected by american troops , the embassy we built will still be opperated by us and guarded by american troops, the iraqys will continuie to fight our occupation its thier country not ours, obama says hes going to send more american brigades to afganistan ! whats the sence in widening that war except to keep the military corporations in buisness makeing war profits obama is a bought and paid for politician , of course mccains no better both are warwhores, the tourtureing will go on with either one of these sellouts, obamas going to be just another crappy extension of bush ,
Sounds like ABC's "This Week" is the one to watch.
Hey Bill Hume-rless, Im glad I can see the 'horizon' of when you leave. you basset hound faced dolt, just leave already. your opinion isnt relevant.
Obama will be a clean broom, theres going to be a massive transformation in America come 09.

RepugliCON food. Sorry same thing.
It sure is sweet to hear Shit Fumes chortling about Barack Obama!
Iran signed the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty, they have every right to enrich uranium. Our glorious allies like Pakistan and Israel have not signed the NNPT, and they actually have nookular WMD! We should be helping Iran with their program!
Troops in Iraq, troops in Afganistan, troops in Pakistan.
So much for the peace dividend!
ABC’s “This Week” - Pre-empted by coverage of the British Open golf tournament.
That was the best news of all
So, a time horizon is not a timetable or timeline, and what it really means is that someday we will start to bring our guys home?
And this is a change from previous policy how?
And as for the conditions, are they really improving?
I understand that we have had fewer of our soldiers being killed each month in Iraq, even though this is probably no consolation to the families of the 28 or so Iraqi military recruits that were killed last week, but they're not Americans, so they don't count, right? (And for the record, I wish the media would stop calling them "troops", it depersonalizes them. A troop member is just one of the faceless masses, but a soldier, we know a soldier is a person, with a family, and is flesh and blood.)
Do fewer battle casualties really equal improvement? I thought the surge was to give them room for political reconciliation, not just reduce our casualty numbers to an "acceptable" level. Not only have they not progressed politically, but any tentative changes that were made have either been rolled back, or have died due to inertia. Just last week, they failed to lay the groundwork for the next round of elections, as they were scheduled to do. This is NOT progress.
I also fear that the plane that picks our soldiers up in Iraq will not be bringing them home, but will be ferrying them into Afghanistan
This is what masquerades as progress in Bush world.
It should be disturbing to everyone when the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff appears on a FOX talking head program or on any media program. It is my personal opinion that both the priests and the generals need to stay entirely out of national politics.
thanks for sharing that animated film. loved it!
FAUX News - Always Fair and Balanced!
Don't believe me? You couldn't get any more fair and balanced than this -
Wallace - "While we're talking here, Senator Obama is on his way, or at least headed to Iraq. He opposed the surge while Senator McCain was one of its earliest supporters. Again having said that, try to divorce it now from politics. You say you're surprised at how much security has improved from when you came on your trip. That you were surprised that it's so much better. What's your best estimate of where we would be if there had been no troop surge, and instead of adding the troops, over the last 18 months, we'd been pulling them out?
Mullen - "That's a hypothetical that I would struggle really answering."
The animated film was really great.
The talking head programs are become more and more of the same, infuriating non answers from both sides. (well, one side gets to expound on their untruths and half truths, while the other is barely given time to get out a complete sentence.)
Although, I know I will watch again, I gotta take a break from this right now. I may tune in to see Gore, just to see if the questions will be relevant to anything, or just an attempt to play gotcha, so that he is marginalized for the duration of the election cycle.
why arent we bringing up all thoes oil tankers sunk in the pacific and atlantic ocean dureing ww2? thiers more oil in these wrecks then youll find in anwar! and its safer then drilling for it on offshore oil riggs, funny no bodys thought of that, its like haveing another oil reserves here, practically every tankers location is known from old ww2 maps, sure its a funny idea but hey it could work , and removeing all that oil from thoes tankers will help with saveing the enviorment , so vote this fall for nobody because nobody cares about you! and nobodys got integrity , so a vote for nobody will get you as much as your going to get from obummer and mccain! nobody 08
I have not watched any of the Sunday morning talkfest for months now but tuned into MTP for Al Gore this morning. This man is just so impressive and it makes me sad that he didn't jump in and run for President this time around. We could have avoided that nasty and ridiculous primary and had a very good nominee a lot earlier. With Gore we would have had a cohesive party and been looking toward a landslide in Nov. with a President that would know what the hell he is doing.
Tom Brokaw was not at all impressive and when Gore left and the two buffoons, David Gregory and NBC's new talking head boy-toy (can't remember his name) showed up it was time to leave.
nice job ABC, Bunch of guys chasing a ball around is history. Glad you're shouldering the resopnsibility of giving out the news.
McCain spending.
Have a nice weekend folks.

when you can't get the "right" answers polling the public, ask yer fellow pundits "Meter Questions" and then sit back and relax.
i went to look at who was included in the dirty dozen, every one a dues-paying member of the always-wrong club.
