Jon Stewart was on fire last night. First he had his response to Sean Hannity's lame "apology" after being totally busted by Stewart for fraudulent reportage. The upshot: Getting Hannity to apologize wasn't worth the ordeal of actually having to watch his show.

He also credits the show's young assistant producer, a fellow named Ramin, for catching this bit of fraud, so he brings Ramin out for a kudo. Let's just say that your humble editor, whose job it is to monitor Fox closely for C&L readers, relates.

And then there was his report on Lou Dobbs' departure from CNN:

That was the funniest show yet. I thought I was gonna die laughing.

People who have to watch FoxNews must have to take a lot of vacations, or they listen to Beethoven and Mozart a lot. Just to calm the nerves.

I go sea kayaking.

I thought of you when Ramin asked for mercy.

...it must be apocalypic stuff like the Requiem and the Ninth Symphony. You know, to keep up their general sense of paranoid self-importance.

There just happened to be that old footage lying around that got mixed up and then perfectly inserted with the current story. Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket.

I've seen some stuff, man. And some thangs...

Didn't Hannity get called out for the same shenanigans by Michael Moore just a few weeks ago (the Cuban hospital that looked like a wasteland---except for the mismatched footage that had actual patients in it, which looked fine)? They never learn, do they?

Hi C&L,

Longtime site reader and supporter (and I have the coffee mug to prove it).

These Comedy Central vids don't play here in Canada because of stupid, anti-Internet region detectors.

I know it would be extra work on your part, but do you think you could put these in your excellent C&L-branded player in the future?

Thanks, keep up the great work.

JDubs

[Sorry. Certain suppliers of video require we use their player. I would guess it has to do with advertising that comes with it, and their ability to keep track of play numbers-Sitemonitor]

Comedy? Is there any difference anymore?

Fox is bad comedy and The Daily Show is good news.

No kidding. You can give a kudo.

Tom Tomorrow:
A recurrent problem.
Last night Hannity had to apologize after Jon Stewart caught him splicing together video from different teabag rallies to make the crowds at the recent one seem larger than they were — he called the mistake “inadvertent.” Fox seems to have a recurring problem with these little “inadvertent” mistakes.

From last March:
"Yesterday, ThinkProgress noted that Fox News spliced a six-month old clip of Vice President Biden to misleadingly imply that he recently said the “fundamentals of the economy are strong.” Today, Fox News’s Martha MacCallum apologized to viewers and said it was an “inadvertent” error.”

I like that Jon Stewart said, "Don't apologize to ME." It's so true. Hannity should apologize to the viewers, correct the error and show the real footage showing the 60 or so people who showed up for the tea-bagger rally.

But needs reposting:

"I strongly encourage anyone who is sick of hearing about Fox's lies to file a complaint to the FCC. You can do that here: http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm The appropriate Complaint Type is "Broadcast (TV and Radio), Cable, and Satellite Issues" and the Complaint Category is "Unauthorized, unfair, biased, illegal broadcasts" (the form states that this includes "Biased or distorted news stories by the media"). The original show aired on Fox News at 9:00 pm Eastern on November 5th 2009. We have an avenue to correct this type of falsification and to make change we must make a complaint."

"Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of Stupidity" - Frank Leahy

That was an apology. He should be apologizing to his viewers for constantly insulting their intelligence. Although, I suppose it's difficult to insult something that one doesn't possess. Fox News viewers seem to enjoy their ignorant bliss, or rather blind rage. It might make for an interesting study to monitor the blood pressure and heart rates of people watching Fox compared to those watching other news networks.

Frank Kramer of Frosty, Heidi, and Frank, has made no secret of the fact that he considers Hannity's show a "trainwreck". FHF is Hannity's KABC lead-in and today Frank mentioned the Stewart bit and Hannity's "Thanks for watching" comment. Frank then proceeded to ridicule Hannity saying among other things that the reason comedians were watching Sean was because he's, "the biggest joke out there."

FHF Rule.

Let's see how far to the right they go before they fall off of the edge of this flat world.

healthcarenow's picture

Stewart, Hannity, Beck, Coombs, Matthews, Olbermann, Limbaugh are all making a killing with this WWF style punditry and laughing at us behind our backs. Stewart- two to 4 million a year. Hannity- 2 to 5 million a year. Beck- 2 to 5 million a year. Olbermann- 2 to 5 million a year. These clowns make big money and laugh at us while they smoke $50 cigars and hang out together in trendy restaurants where we couldn't afford the damn tip, much less the entree!! Wake up!! Our president doesn't need these idiots to get the job done. He can and will do what we elected him to do. Elevate the working class by taking the ridiculous amounts of money these rich people have and forcing a new order that will make them pay us what we should be making. Yes!!

moochy's picture

Talk about one of these things is not like the others. Jon Stewart is a comedian and satirist; it's his mandate to make fun of the follies of the punditry. And if you're gonna get bent out of shape about how much these guys are making, forget about Beck and Olbermann and hone in on David Letterman, who makes $31M a year, or Bill Gates, whose net worth has reached the billions.
But if you're really desperate to make some immediate cash, I'm sure Obama would be happy to pay you a few extra bucks as kissup czar. Sorry if that sounds mean, but if Santa Claus couldn't make all our dreams come true, neither can Barack.

healthcarenow's picture

Maybe 2 to 5 mill a year isn't a lot to an elitist like you, but it's a hell of a lot of money to the average working person. Stewart is a hack like Limbaugh. Admit it. Stewart is a comedian as long as his writers keep coming up with fresh stuff. His talent is mugging for the camera. If he's so busy being a great comedian, why does he give a crap about fraudulent footage from a nut like Hannity? I've seen Stewart in a debate. He's pathetic. Alan Coombs can debate an issue. So can Juan Williams. They support our president. Stewart is in it for the money. Period!!

mudshark's picture

Funny how Stewart seems to be right 99.9% of the time.
He is a comedian. That's his job. He skewers political hypocrisy. By the likes of all that you've mentioned.
He draws no line in between the political parties.
If they step in it. He calls them on it.

And naming Combs and Williams could not have been a worse choice.
Hmmmm? What network do they work for? I can't seem to recall since I don't watch much tv.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

healthcarenow's picture

mudshark. Please don't tell me you watch only one news channel and read only material you agree with. Maybe Palin and Olbermann do, however, no one can argue a point without hearing and reading both sides. I've seen Stewart pushed in a debate and his best argument is to call the other person a DICK. That's kids stuff like Limbaugh. Stewart falls back on being a comedian when he gets pushed. "Gosh everyone I'm just a comedian ha ha".

esme's picture

to humble editor - thanks for doing the dirty work!

I am appalled by Dobbs, as I am appalled by every spokesliar for the far, far, far right. He quit his job just like the moronic Palin quit hers - for no sensible reason, amid a blizzard of patriotic-sounding gibberish about "serving". The only thing Dobbs will be "serving" any time soon is the fourth helping of Thanksgiving turkey he stuffs into that fat face.

Good riddance, Lou. And don't come back any time soon, at least not anywhere I have to look at you.
