Nancy Pelosi says the House will not pass health care reform without a public option

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the Huffington Post Thursday that a health care overhaul that did not include a public option wouldn't make it through the House because it "wouldn't have the votes."
At a press conference earlier in the morning, Pelosi had been asked if including a public plan that would compete with private insurance was "essential" to health care reform. "Can you have effective health care reform without a public option?" a reporter asked.
The goal, she responded, was affordability and accessibility. "If you have another way to do that, put it on the table. And that's where we are. Everything should be on the table," she said.
The open-ended answer led some reporters after the press conference to wonder if she was backing off her statement to MSNBC Wednesday that a bill without a public option wouldn't get out of the House.
Not at all, she said. Asked by HuffPost if she would allow a reform package without a public option out of the House, she responded: "It's not a question of allow. It wouldn't have the votes."

Anybody who does not support this issue, is no democrat. They are just corrupt corporate fascists, like Bush, Cheney, McConnell, Boner and the rest of the GOP psychopaths, and should be treated accordingly.
Say no to a half-baked so-called public option. The system must have everyone pay into it, spreading the risk among all of us, with first dollar coverage for all. Let the "option" be an opt-out option for rich people who want private insurance in addition to a national health plan.

She is one of the only ones vocally defending the public option. If she can get this through and the damned senate and horrible Harry doesn't screw it up, she will go down in history as one of the great speakers of all times.

And I thought exactly the same thing I am thinking now: I'll believe it if it happens but her lack of credibility makes it foolish for one to assume she's telling the truth.
We'll believe it when we see it.
If the "free market" that Republicans like to spew all the time actually worked, then there should be really no one without insurance, no one paying crazy rates and no one being denied. What the Republicans do not understand is that too much of anything is a bad thing. We have too much Capitalism in the States and a little bit of Socialism is not a good thing. Then again, I am not even sure the public option would even be considered Socialism.
What the Congress needs to do is look around the world at the various systems and choose. No system is perfect. One thing that all, I believe, universal healthcare systems have is that the Insurance Companies are non profit for basic medical coverage. They make their money on upgrades to hospital stays, having different meals, etc. Switzerland did it in 1994, so can we!
this all is kabuki (or bukkake, if you're a civilian/citizen).
There is just no way in hell or heaven or anywhere in-between that the Health Insurance parasites will walk away from this endless ocean of cash.
What we're gonna get is what the insurance companies "can live with," which will mean the "public option" will be so small, or so limited, or so triggered as to be completely meaningless.
But the stenographic lapdogs of power will strive assiduously to assure us that it is indeed BIG CHANGE.
Most people will believe it.
And the opportunity for real health care reform will be smothered for another decade or longer...
For the insurance companies. They will not allow an opportunity like this to go by where they have a chance to call in favors and raise their profits even higher. Watch.
Sure there will be a public option. But qualifying for it will be another story altogether. How does the saying go?
The Senate is where a good House bill goes to die.
A Public Option won't help those of us that have health care and can't afford to use it - hell, we can't even afford to pay for the policy.
Single Payer and a Public Option are NOT the same thing.
They have decided that single payer isn't going to happen. Only we can change that.

I know Nancy Pelosi has taken a lot of criticism. Most of it circumstancial allegations.
I admire the lady. Enough of the botox blabbing. The lady wants to stay looking young. Hell, there are a MILLION American women who are vain enough to do the very same thing. Tough shit.

If you think there is some remote possibility that the final bill that comes out of the conference committee will have a public option, then you are smoking fairy dust.
The fix is in. Senate Democrats don't want a public option any more than the republicans. They have taken tens of millions in bribes to block this kind of bill.
Enough Democratic senators from safe states will join with the republicans to block the legislation. The rest of the bribe takers can then vote for the bill, while resting assured that it is just a window dressing vote. Harry Reid could force it through if he wanted it passed. He doesn't.
You may have voted for change, but some things will never change.
