Pennsylvania GOP Uses Hammer And Sickle Symbols For O-bama

PA GOP_b4ee4.png

Those classy guys in the GOP. Will Bunch:

Some of 55 years after the vicious, Red-baiting tactics of Joseph McCarthy were repudiated by America's better angels, the state GOP is picking up the tattered banner of McCarthyism and running with it -- literally, in fact, with this banner ad (top) on a popular political Web site. In this case, it's hard to say what is more appalling -- equating the sitting president of the United States with the Soviet dictators who slaughtered their political enemies and sent others to brutal gulags, or the cause this ad is promoting: The election of a judge to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

The ad was was first noticed on the Pennsylvania blog Gort42 (also h/t downwithtyranny) -- it appears on the top of the website GrassrootsPA, which is the leading state-oriented conservative Web site in Pennsylvania. Last night, the image -- as captured and posted by Gort42 and now here -- and this ad was at top of the site when I first visited there around 10:30; later in the night, the same banner displayed a different message -- about bailouts, healthcare and the stimulus. It's not clear whether the image with the hammer-and-sickle "Obama" was replaced or whether it alternates with the other message.

It's not the first time that the Pennsylvania Republican Party has used extreme rhetoric about Barack Obama. Last fall, when he was the Democratic nominee -- as reported here at Attytood -- the state GOP chairman Robert Gleason issued a press release that called Obama "a terrorist's best friend." This new ad also picks up a theme that gained attention earlier this fall in Kansas City, when an anti-Obama billboard placed on I-70 had the Soviet hammer-and-sickle emblem with the message: ""How do you like your change now? Obama Nation. They are coming for you! The Taxpayer. First and Second Amendments are in jeopardy. Live free or Die."

My god, these are the same party who destroyed CDs and sent death threats when the Dixie Chicks said they were embarrassed to be from the same state as GWB and demanded Congress react to MoveOn's ad "Gen. Betray-Us?". But yet they throw around loaded symbols and allusions to some of the most brutal regimes of the last century, and think nothing of it.

dont you know, the reichwing never does anything wrong, and if they do, its the dems fault.... Pennsylvania has two cities on each side, with arkansas in between. really a backwoods marry your cousin kind of place....

"Those classy Klassy guys in the GOP"

Top drawer! The acme of political discourse.

I hope the GOP keeps it up - these are the "last throes, if you will"

The "acne" of political discourse? :)

)O(

because they have nothing else to run on. Hopefully most murcans are on to it by now.

Remember not too long ago they called themselves "the party of ideas"?...God that was funny

Most of this country hasn't a clue, NOT ONE, about what is really going on. Why are we worried that Harry Reid may lose his seat in Nevada to someone in the gop? Why, I'll tell you, because NOBODY, NO-BOD-EE gives a crap, nobody really cares. We're how many on this site daily? How many people vote? Every failure, every misstep that Reid makes, every time he doesn't say, "I support the Public Option!", he finds another voter wanting to vote him out. And so it goes with every Democrat out there. For every Democrat wafflin' on anything, there's a gop candidate waiting in the wings to lie to the constituency and make a play for that all important seat. Until these idiots come together as a party and blow off the "bi-partisanship", there will be NO moving forward on anything especially the things that count. And I'm really getting tired of NOTHING on:

Getting rid of Halliburton
Getting rid of Xe
Getting War Crimes trials going against the ba$tards who authorized and committed torture
Full support of the Public Option
The cessation of spying on Americans

from the White House.
Sorry, this will be my only comment today.

Geitner, Goldman-Sucks, and the rest of the bankster brigade.

I'm not sure where the nadir is for the GOP, but they must be getting mighty close. They just keep getting further and further from any semblance of rational discourse and debate. Folks that this appeals to are either woefully ignorant or stupid.

"Folks that this appeals to are either woefully ignorant or stupid."

Sorry, both.

They are far too dangerous to ignore.

They act as though everything was "just fine" before January 2009.

The fundamentals of the economy were strong and sound . . . Iraq and Afghanistan were all done - fine and dandy . . .

What on earth could you mean?

Before Jan 2009 we had a white guy as the leader of the free world . . I'm sure his color had nothing to do with it.

Oh yes. Because the Republicans were running this ship just fine :-)

Gibraltar while they were at it! :-\

Gah, it's so funny it hurts... :(

it was swastikas and Hilter, now it's hammer and sickle and the Communists. Which is it? Those are two VERY different things and ideologies. The GOP is truly becoming bipolar and schizophrenic.

Which is it? Bipolar or schitzophrenic, those are two different things! They're becoming self righteously pro Amerikan and secularly unpatriotic.

Actually they're just becoming sick and twisted. psychotic and unhinged. Armed and dangerous.

Is Obama a commie, nazi, socialist, marxist, pagan, christian muslim?

Inquiring minds want to know.

"Is Obama a commie, nazi, socialist, marxist, pagan, christian muslim?"

Don't you know? He's Neville Chamberlain AND Adolf Hitler. He combines the wishy-washiness of a Jimmy Carter AND the steel-fisted totalitarian instincts of a Joseph Stalin. He's a cold atheist rationalist without a spiritual bone in his body AND a fanatical Muslim Manchurian Candidate out to impose Sharia law.

"Is Obama a commie, nazi, socialist, marxist, pagan, christian muslim?"

He's black!

NAILED IT!

)O(

tell me that the reason the majority of the country voted for Obama was because they were afraid...
.
.
.
.
...afraid to be seen as RACIST for NOT voting for a black candidate.
Srsly.

Bi-polar AND schizophrenic.

These are the only people who can accomplish both.

is the new rethug party.

ha haa haaaaa

Those Edsign wantabees.

thing including the kitchen sink, as long as it's BIG and SCARY.

Today in my small hometown newspaper, there was actually a letter from a man outlining the Communist plan to take over the US.

It demonstrates that these people don't know their *** from a hole in the ground, but that doesn't prevent them from mouthing off all over the place. They're basically anachronisms that want to hold onto the Perfect Past, I say.

maybe part of the problem is the fact that the idiots at the GOP read 1984 as an instructions manual?

I shrug to think what Atlas they are using for new directions.

it shows the Earth in its correct, flattened state.

Ayn Rand reference.

It's about confusing and scaring dumb people. All it takes is one scared dumb person (Lee Harvey Oswald?) to affect change to their benefit, whereas it takes thousands of us to make one small step.

This is ridiculous, but not surprising given the climate in this country. The right wing is only digging itself into a very deep hole by putting out vile garbage such as this. Shameful.

http://blackpoliticalthought.blogspot.com

for them in the fifties.....maybe they're just being nostalgic.

is their proficiency for being stuck in the past, not for their ability to look forward.

The party of No-idea falls back on tactics that worked for them before. They were able to fool most of the people some of the times, but not being able to fool them all of the time has sent them into a tailspin and they lash out with their usual dirty tricks.

Until they can come up with a better class of lies to tell the public, they had better be prepared for a long-term minority status.

At least 30 percent of Americans WANT to be fooled. As long as you tell them their crazy ideas are right, they are happy to keep voting for you.

They will only stop doing this sort of thing when it no longer works; and sadly, that is not now.

"The public will believe anything, so long as it is not founded on truth."

Edith Sitwell (1887 - 1964)

I know, that,s why I said some of the people, that,s how that old saying goes isnt it; "you can fool some of the people some of the time, you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you cant fool all of the people all of the time."
I believe that was Lincoln who coined that phrase, a real RepubliCAN.

This is no different than the Democratic Party using the Nazi swastika to attack the GOP.Imagine the fallout from that.

Or

If someone spelled Bush with an "SS" symbol for the "s" or a swastika for the "H"

The GOP could have passed a resolution. . .

"The GOP could have passed a resolution. . ."

The GOP could have passed a Cow.

These guys are still disputing the whole "round versus square" design of the wheel thing...

Delegating authority to subordinates is the Republicantthink way. This of course is the result. Where did the grownups go?

Not too constructive, but, who cares. Fuck the GOP and the conservative movement. Regression to the good ole days of the 1950s is all the thought they seem to possess. Fuck em.

Perhaps for now on they should be known as "Regressives".

(Plant tongue FIRMLY in cheek before reading)

Hell, they ain't none of them racialists in that there RepubliKKKan party.
Wee ain't no stupids eethur.
Ahm just cleanin' my guns 'n mindin' mah own bidness.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Sheesh.

I think the grown-ups are gone on vacation.
They left the place in the care of the dim-witted clowns who wouldn't know their own history if it came up and bit them in the behind.

...

"I think the grown-ups are gone on vacation."

If there are any still. The RW intellectuals (if there was such a thing) have all died, others now claim the label Independent.

Conservative eating their own.

Love it!

I'd have wanted to hit the dude too. I don't care if you're a public figure or not. Nobody should be in your face harassing you - especially when you tell them to stop.

I don't know. I wish somebody got in Dick Cheney's face and asked him by he lied America into war with an oil rich nation and steered no-bid government contacts to his former company resuliting in the deaths of 5,000 American soldiers and countless Iraqi civilian men women and children and billions of our tax dollars wasted for that war. I wish somebody got in Dick Cheney's face like that and not move until they got that answer.

Of course that GOP hack Keane would not do it, but he'd get in somebody's face over Sayruh Paylun!

peace symbol we are OK.

These are the same idiots who think Hitler was a lefty!

It'd be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Adolph the Hippie.

Have they no shame?

Are Republicans dumb? You betcha.

You can only throw out the most extreme labels for so long. Until people start to realize...none of it is actually happening. The GOP never seems to learn this lesson. You don't START by saying a nuclear (uh..."nukular") bomb is going to explode, because it's too easy to know that it hasn't happened. None of what they're saying is true...or will happen. That much is...and will be...obvious to most people.

So let them keep on spinning the "disaster" that's coming. Unlike with Bush...where the disaster indeed DID happen...it's destined to be a letdown under Obama.

more denial..........from the extreme right. deny the BUSH legacy and smear it onto president obama. when it comes to the bailout(s) look at the bush legacy, huge medicare D government program look to bush,
war(s) look to bush, homeland security look to bush, gitmo look to bush, no bid government contracts look to bush.......this is more social engineering to deny the BUSH legacy.

They seem confused about this because dr. beckenstein hasn't quite made up his mind which incarnation will be the most successful in bringing tears to his baby blues. He seems to prefer "radical marxist" right now, but that could change.

So, quit yer bitchin'. He'll let us know, when he works it all out on his chalkboard of crazy, and then all will be revealed and the gopeers will march in unison, singing their song of fear and hate.

IT is pretty funny watching the GOP use and manipulate their base in a sophomoric way. It's even funnier watching the base eat it up.
Hahahahahahahahhahahahhaha lolololololololollll

)O(

The hammer and the sickle are tools of laborers

Are the republicans in Pennsylvania elitists or something?

The hammer and sickle is a reminder of what will happen if indeed we "eat our own" over real or imagined disappointments:

Speaker John Boehner

"My god, these are the same party who destroyed CDs and sent death threats when the Dixie Chicks said they were embarrassed to be from the same state as GWB and demanded Congress react to MoveOn's ad "Gen. Betray-Us?". But yet they throw around loaded symbols and allusions to some of the most brutal regimes of the last century, and think nothing of it."

It's because the Pennsylvania GOP is comprised of assholes.

In this day in age when we are getting screwed royally by banks, oil companies, insurance companies, drug companies, toys r us....we, the people of this nation are not fearing government stepping in.

It's time we got stickers of our own.

http://www.cafepress.com/infmomdesigns.404047470

No, I voted for them to do these things.

from a total stranjger. And the guy's profile Pick was a copy of the President's name, with the hammer and sickle replacing the "O". This shit is going everywhere.

Uncaring, lowlife, Reslug assholes would prostitute their own Mothers if it helped them in some sick way.

"Red" baiting on the Right is kind of like the use of the words "Nazi" and "Facist" on the Left.

If you can just reduce the other side's beliefs to a stereotype, then
somehow you win the argument?

So, think about it before you throw "-ists" around. Do you want
to sound as ignorant?

OTP

)O(

Actually it's fascist.

And one has to distinguish between the stereotype, the historical analogy, the Argumentum ad Reductio and the Argumentum ad Abstractum (one can easily accuse the other of these when attempting to find common points for debate).

Your argument was a stereotypical tu quoque.

[Comment Deleted By Administration For Violation Of Terms Of Service]
)O(

Gol-durnitt I missed it.

)O(

And Argumentum ad Abstractum might be better referred to as Argumentum Verbosium.

Technically an Abstractum is the plural form for abstracta, so Argumentum ad Abstractum might've been my own accidental coinage, although it does translate to Arguing by Abstraction.

This posting is all over the place. Making statements like "...equating the sitting president of the United States with the Soviet dictators who slaughtered their political enemies.." WTF? Go ahead, make statements to shock people that don't bother researching the background. I don't see anything here or on the web site that has any direct contact to the PA GOP. It only diminishes the message.

Too funny using McCarthy in this posting. I was looking at it the other way. I find the administrations’ incestual use of a sympathetic media to attack anyone that disagrees with their policies, views, ideas, etc. as "McCarthyism". Their refusal to appear on FOX only fuels the fire. Doesn't it make sense to go on FOX to at least make an attempt to sway the huge numbers of Independent viewer/voters that may be on the fence? Using the office to attack dissenting views is exactly what McCarthy did. What happened to him? The public finally got fed up and he was sent packing.

)O(

During the month of August the "sympathetic" media wasn't reporting on healthcare so much as the teabaggers shenannigans without any background information. We heard endless references to accusations of death panels, illegal aliens getting free care, government take-over of medicine, rationed care (even though it's already rationed by the bean counters at insurance companies).

And reform, according to the MSM was only public option with no mention of HR676, medical professionals majority support for HR676, and the medical fairs drawing crowds that dwarfed many teabagger rallies.

The last polls I heard showed 64% of the public for public option, with only around 25% being against it, roughly consistent with boosh's support toward his last year in office. That only leaves approximately 11% undecided.

And the accusation of McCarthyism is appropos when one of the most common accusations against President Obama and his supporters is that they're communists, with no supporting evidence.

Previous Democrats who have appeared on FAUX news have learned that when they're invited to discuss one issue, they attempt to play gotcha politics by bringing up something totally unrelated. Additionally FAUX news has been actively promoting the teabag events, even in their news shows, not just pundits.

Spend a lot of time watching just one channel do ya? Statements like "without any background information" and "without supporting evidence" makes you sound a little uninformed, at least. I read at least two news papers a day, listen to Rush on the radio, Al Jazerra before leaving work, BBC at 6, and Maddow before shutting down for the night. I see it all. Without it one is uninformed. Have you seen the bios of the White House staff?!! There’s supporting evidence for you. There are a lot of idiots that spend their days on blogs, relying on one news source, complaining about network commentators they don't watch or listen to regularly serves nobody except for the fringe and the sheeple. They all have something to contribute, like it or not. School yourself on McCarthy and McCarthyism. Communism was incidental. The real issue with McCarthy was the misuse of his office to single out people for their political beliefs and pressuring others to go along or "pay the consequences." We're seeing that with the administration now. Attempting to control any and all messages; and anyone that gets in the way is overtly and covertly threatened with "consequences". Where is the difference?

American voters demonstrated that they didn't believe all the bull-pucky about fascism, racism, socialism, communism, whateverism, Obama's so-called Kenyan birth, etc., the GOP continues to push these lies? What are they expecting, more converts? How many of you know people who voted for Obama but now believe he's the bringing on the fourth reich, or a Soviet-style government, or socialized medicine, or hating white people, etc?

The idiots who believe that garbage were stupid and guillible to begin with already, and never would have voted for Obama in the first place. Who do they think is left for them to pick up?!

)O(

Or Hawaii is an exotic place to visit despite being born there, and he was visiting his white granny who was dying?

is left to be won over by this stuff...

They really are one-trick ponies...

I feel compelled ( again ) to extend my usual sympathies to the good intelligent , progressive , sane folks who post here. Im sorry you have to live with, and co exist with, these mouth breathing right wing morons in your midst. It cant be easy. I wouldn't last long down there for sure. Id end up getting shot. I just couldn't stop myself from laughing at them and mocking their utter stupidity. Is it ever gonna get better or just worse ? geezuz
