Anti-Abortion Senators Apparently Fine With Bombing Abortion Clinics
By Susie Madrak Friday Jun 26, 2009 1:45pmYou know why bloggers don't get invited onto more news shows? Because we would absolutely clean the politicians' clocks over hypocrisy like this. Billions of dollars to spend on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that have killed more than a million innocent civilians, but they go all brave and weepy-eyed over theoretical babies. Funny, how little attention they give to them once they're out of the womb:
In the wake of Dr. George Tiller's murder, the U.S. Senate is debating a resolution that condemns violence against abortion providers. The words "reproductive health care" are in the bill, causing Republicans and anti-abortion senators to oppose it, according to a Minnesota Independent article.
Senators Amy Klobuchar, who is the lead sponsor, Jeanne Shaheen and Barbara Boxer worded the bill to say "acts of violence should never be used to prevent women from receiving reproductive health care." The bill's opponents say it glorifies abortion. The article also said that an anonymous Republican senator moved to use the "secret hold," which prevents a vote on the bill.
Klobuchar told the Minnesota Independent, "As a former prosecutor I have seen how acts of violence can tear apart communities...No matter how heated the debate or how great our differences, violence is never the answer."
A similar bill passed the House June 9, but it was a watered-down version of the one currently in the Senate. It did not mention Dr. Tiller or his profession, and did not use the words "reproductive rights" or "abortion."

The republicans say they don't want this country to be a socialist country that takes care of people from womb to tomb...but in the womb, that's a different matter. Once your little body pops out the government feels you are on your own little person.
Why in hell wouldn't they want to prevent people from harming others just because they don't agree with them. Jesus, this is just politics and nothing more.
want to run around in circles, prior to my head catching on fire and exploding! Have I mentioned today how much I HATE this human GOP waste?
Some of these people seem to only be interested from womb to birth. Once that bundle of joy crowns, it's on its own.
maybe a little latex could have prevented the
unnatural misfortune that confronts us now
from unimaginable ignorance from the gop
and reichwingnuttia with their constant
obstruction of wise legislation in congress
or the state legislatures.
Come on Suzie. Those are "brown" innocent humans they don't get upset about killing
I know you probably mean well, but still.
You have to admit the people who are trying to block this never mention the babies we have killed with our bombs. Our fetuses are sacred but the others? Not so much.
These folks are, after all, the same people who voted against health care for children.
Why would they start caring now?
that has a female that say's she got an abortion because she
has a blood thirst for babies?
If this were math, an associative property would be missing.
is currently my lone senator - and I'm proud of her. On this issue, she has the high ground.
The RightWingNut "Senators" are the same ones who don't support a Public Option Health Care plan because they don't want the "government" to get between you and your doctor...OH WAIT, unless the issue is Women's Reproductive Rights and the doctors that help women with their care. THEN it's OK.
No surprise here - Repub Hypocrisy reigns.
Great point! If you are on your way to get an abortion and someone throws a bomb between you and your doctor, tough shit for you.
great line! sad, but great.
My lone senator as well. Too bad we are not fully represented in Congress. Sen Klobuchar is right on this issue!
Secret hold?
You can bet that's a man-hating woman.
If not - then it's a woman-hating woman.

I understand being outraged by the hypocrisy of it all, but why do we need to waste the Senate's time with a resolution of this nature? Don't we already have laws against violence? Why do we need a special resolution to say it's bad? It doesn't make sense to me. Instead of doing things that can actually help people, they're wasting valuable time on this inanity. How about a law against fomenting violence against political adversaries by posting their personal information online? THAT would be useful.

that 's been ignored openly and when that happens, something further is needed. Dr. Tiller's murderer should have been in jail under the FACE Act just for gluing the locks on clinics alone - and he was caught doing that very thing the day before he committed cold-blooded murder. So, if a resolution such as this can protect women and their doctors, I'm all for a little of the Senate's time going into it.
My point is, if a law can't protect them, how's a resolution gonna do it?

And as an afterthought, why not a law that makes law enforcement and prosecutors that ignore the law criminally responsible for doing so? I think that would be more useful. I know that the burden of proof in such a case would need to be high, but if it can be proved to a jury, then by all means I think they should be prosecuted.

Republican have no problem with terroism, just like abortion and the gay rights issues terrorism is just another tool the Republicans will gladly use to scare the stupid people into voting for the Repugs.
If someone blows up something that they stand against, it doesn't matter if there is a loss of life or whatever, the right wing will gladly support terroism if it gets them votes.
"The article also said that an anonymous Republican senator moved to use the "secret hold," which prevents a vote on the bill."
Is the secret hold the handshake between Little Orphan Annie fans?
Don't forget to drink your Ovaltine.
Fascists never let a few dead people get in the way of taking away the rights or lives of others.
I used to love my Ovatine , while watching " JET JACKSON " .
that was ovaltine
Always there for a baby kissing and ribbon cutting when the media is invited to see the results of the money she's brought back to the state. In other words, typical populist politician who is AWOL when the tough questions like FISA get asked. Maybe getting tromped on for what she probably thought was a no-brainer, feel-good resolution will put some fight into her, make her realize it's hard to avoid controversy when you are supposed to be one of the nation's leaders and motivate her to show some moral leadership on the hard issues.
