Wow. Look how much CNN wanted him out of there:

CNN was so sick of Lou Dobbs, it gave him an $8 million severance package to leave, The Post has learned.

"They wanted him out," according to a source.

Dobbs, who a source said had a year and a half to go on his $12 million contract, shocked viewers last Wednesday by announcing he was quitting.

CNN boss Jonathan Klein and Dobbs, 64, had been publicly feuding over the kind of reporting Dobbs was doing on his show -- especially stories about illegal immigration and the anti-Obama "birther" movement, which contends the president was not born in Hawaii and is not an American citizen.

But it was not clear until now that CNN was willing to pay Dobbs so much money to leave.

"What they do is their business," Dobbs said yesterday. "I tried to accommodate them as best I could, but I've said for many years now that neutrality is not part of my being."

Klein long believed Dobbs was at odds with CNN's desire to position itself as an opinion-free, middle-of-the-road alternative to its cable news rivals -- conservative Fox News and liberal MSNBC.

False equivalences.

deluded?

hazmaq's picture

CNN's idea of a "middle of the road alternative" is to allow Wolf Blitzer to call my female hometown Mayoral candidate in San Diego a "surfer chick", repeatedly. She lost by a slim margin.

Or how about Larry King constantly telling the world that Israel is "surrounded by enemies"
Or repeated programming on Blacks v. Whites.

MSNBC gets extremely political - absolutely.
But never personal as CNN and Fox aim to do - specifically.
And, they're the first and only network to come back the next day to apologize if they've personally offended anyone or made any 'mistakes' with their facts.

hazmaq's picture

CNN and Fox like their news to get personal.

I've admired MSNBC because they go out of their way and in fact apologize when they offend or make mistakes.

Thy are extremely political, however, and that's OK. I like hearing both sides of a political debate.

George Of Washington's picture

If MSNBC is so left-wing, why do I have to listen to former Republican congresscritter Joe Scarbrough and former Republican Presidential candidate Pat "white racist and proud" Buchanan?

and

Andrea Mitchell - who was obviously all tingly today cause she got to cover the Sarah show at a Michigan mall. This was news? Getting middle-aged women from Grand Rapids, Mi to say they like Sarah is hardly a stretch when you consider that they had showed up to wait in line for hours. But Andrea was almost breathless with how much they liked Sarah. They almost got giggly and brushed each other's hair.

Bullshit. FOX uses lies. MSNBC uses facts

is intended to be a factual statement

SadButTrue's picture

The issue is not whether a news story or outlet shows bias - it's whether it's true or not.

Rachel Maddow may be the most openly partisan personality outside of the FOX "news" studios. Who cares? Her first question to nearly every guest, no matter which side of an issue they're on is, "I just said X about ________. Did I state the facts?" When she's wrong (which is very rare) she corrects herself, unlike FOX who make excuses.

Fact based reporting and opinion based upon fact (or lack thereof).

Your nothing but a ranting and raving partisan hack with little basis in reality.

And your crap has no use in America.

I don't have any problem with people expressing opinions.
It's all that um.."lying" I find tedious.
Anyway Lou was simply the most obvious CNN offender.
The others "express their opinions" through the questions they choose to ask (or not ask) and the manner in which they choose to cover stories.

CNN is a rightwing media outlet with an Israel bias. You can count on one hand the number of times that they ran stories unfavorable to Bush and probably have enough fingers left over for stories favorable to the Obama administration. (I'll never forget Blitzer telling Obama that he got the question about who America's most important ally was wrong.)

Fox "News" on the other hand is blatently the propaganda arm of the Republican party. (It was founded by Roger Ailes, who was the Karl Rove of the Nixon/Regan era.)

miss_kitty's picture

there won't be any restrictions on when he can pick up a new gig. If you leave on your own, you can lose face time at the competitor's. majii's picture

How many lies can Klein and Dobbs tell? When organizations and individuals began to complain about Dobbs, Klein provided cover and supported him while behind the scenes they were at each other's throat. Only when the most recent teevee ratings were released did Klein decide to rid CNN of Dobbs' negative influence. They were both willing to lie to keep Dobbs on the network, until Klein saw that it was affecting their viewer numbers and would most likely affect their money coming in from advertisers. The free market was the final nail in Dobbs' coffin. He was no longer an asset to the network.
That Dobbs left the network is great news. That Dobbs and CNN were both, in a way, "victims" of the free market system is excellent. Klein got to experience first-hand the fact that, in a free market system, businesses that can't survive are forced out of the game.

Just curious.

"Klein long believed Dobbs was at odds with CNN's desire to position itself as an opinion-free, middle-of-the-road alternative to its cable news rivals -- conservative Fox News and liberal MSNBC."

There's so much wrong with this statement. First, MSNBC is not 'liberal'. Secondly, FOX does not present news, but rather is the ideological voice of the far right. Third, CNN is not middle of the road -- it really seeks to be without ideological foundation. It seeks to present the kind of content-free noise that won't offend anyone sitting around at an airport waiting for their flight to be loaded. This is why Lou is 'at odds' with CNN - he does not present the kind of noise CNN wants to present. CNN aspires to be PBS for people who do not want to think.

MSNBC is not liberal? K.O.,Mathews, and Rachel aren't liberal?

Geazer's picture

Perhaps you've never caught "Morning Joe"? Left? Compared to the crew at Fakes & Friends, maybe, but that's a stretch.

Take KO, Ed, and Rachel off the air and you have Chris Matthews (MSNBC's equivalent of Talk-Over Bill O'Really, imho) and Prison Shows. Take (any three Fakes News personalities) off the air, and you still have 21 hours of right-wing jabber.

"Trust no one, Mr. Mulder." - Well-Manicured Man

miss_kitty's picture

Just a liberal facade on a clapped out old slapper...

And no KO and Matthews especially Matthews, who loves the smell of Fred Thompson, are not anywhere close to 'Liberal' Asshats have dragged this country so far to the right, a centrist like Olbermann and a righty like Matthews only appear 'liberal' to a wingnut, like you.

There's a double standard here. FOX is exclusively right wing. A network is labeled 'liberal' if there exists a single liberal show on it. On this criterion CNN is liberal because it has Cafferty.

Dumping Dobbs will not help CNN.from its Rating Nightmare.
As long as they have Blitzer and Anderson they will continue to
be last.

Blitzer spends way too much of his time on ludicrous or destructive Republican talking points.

Blitzer either talks about Republican talking points to Democrats, or he talks Republican talking points directly to Republicans. He does it all so innocuously that i'm not sure if he's aware that his show is becoming a distortion of the true situation in America today.

But he could change, and i want to thank CNN for dumping Birther Lou Dobbs. thanks CNN!

I guess Blitzer does have to contend with Republicans as long as they are the official opposition. I'll be real happy when republicans are gone, gone, gone and a decent opposition party can be formed.
