Bismillah Khan is the world's greatest shenai player. I've loved his classical Indian music since someone turned me on to him when I was a student in the 60's. Later, when I was a radio dj, I tried turning a mass audience on to his music; it didn't work. Most people found it too... foreign. All the pieces I have by him are over 10 minutes long but today I found a 3 minute extract from "Rag Multani" that I hope opens up a new musical vista for someone in the Music Club.

We don't have any Bismillah Khan CDs to give away as prizes tonight but I remember whenever I used to play his music on KSAN people used to call up and request ELO songs. So tonight's C&L Late Night Music Club prize are 3 copies of the new expanded version of ELO II (so not just "Roll Over Beethoven" and the classics but also 4 new bonus tracks to boot). Just put together a playlist of the 10 best late night listening songs you know and the 3 coolest get the ELO. Send 'em to downwithtyranny@aol.com.
