Officials said on Tuesday that the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department was investigating a video showing officers beating a handcuffed suspect.

According to the Detroit News, the video was shot and posted to the Internet on Monday while officers from Grosse Pointe Park and the Detroit Police Department conducted a joint task force operation.

As the video begins, the suspect already appears to be handcuffed face down on a snowy sidewalk. One officer is on top of the suspect, while another officer kicks him.

"What did you say? Jesus? You're calling Jesus?" one of the officers asks the suspect. "You f*cker. Don't you dare! Don't you f*cking dare!"

The woman recording the video notes at one point that the officers were beating, kicking and pistol whipping the suspect while he was handcuffed.

"That was a justified ass whooping," a female officer who later appears in the video opines. After searching the suspect, one of the officer says that he found a pistol hidden in the man's clothing.

The Detroit Police Department said that it determined that the arrest was part of a joint task force operation, and handed the video over to the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department, which launched the investigation.

"We were notified about this last night," Grosse Pointe Park Police Chief David Hiller explained on Tuesday. "This subject was a parole absconder wanted for an armed robbery in Detroit. He was armed with a handgun."

Hiller added that the suspect had not shot at the officers with the pistol.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig insisted on Tuesday that no Detroit officers had taken part in beating the suspect.

"There is no indication that a Detroit police officer was involved in the use of force," he remarked. "In our preliminary investigation, we have learned this was a task force in which we were involved."

Craig also said that a Detroit officer who was on the scene could be a witness in the investigation.
