It's always been a little tricky to describe the music of Tortoise. Their sound has always been at a crossroads where studied prog-rock, way off-kilter and loose experimentation, chilled out ambiance and nervous twitches meet.

Though it's been seven years between their last album, Beacons of Ancestorship, and this brand new one, The Catastrophist, the band is still is as odd and interesting as they've always been over their 20+ year career.
