Rush Limbaugh said Ted Cruz is the closest thing to Reagan, "in terms of doctrinaire, understandable, articulated, implementable conservatism."
February 11, 2016

Senator Ted Cruz has long been the favorite conservative amongst the AM hate talk radio shows like Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin. But they have been doing their best high wire acts, to balance the flow of Donald Trump fans from the fever swamps of the right.

Yesterday, Rush all but ended his neutral stance.

RUSH LIMBAUGH (HOST): Now about Cruz and his being self sufficient, there is no question about that. Here, let me just say something right off the bat, and I've said this before, I opened the program with it yesterday. When I saw what Jeb and Kasich were doing in New Hampshire, at the last minute in order to get votes, they were going left as fast as Dion Sanders can backpedal. They were moving left faster than anybody I've ever seen anyone go left.

And I opened the program yesterday saying you will never, ever have to worry about that with Ted Cruz. And then I expanded on it, and let me say one -- if conservatism is your bag, if conservatism is the dominating factor in how you vote, there is no other choice for you in this campaign than Ted Cruz. Because you are exactly -- this is the closest in our lifetime we have ever been to Ronald Reagan, in terms of doctrinaire, understandable, articulated, implementable conservatism. There is nobody closer.

The reason I call this an endorsement is because Conservative talk radio likes to keep its audience angry. Keeping the right wing base angry is good for business and one way to do that is to proclaim everyday, on air, that the GOP has sold them out because nobody stands for real conservative principles anymore.

These radio bozos cautioned Trump weeks ago not to attack Cruz too hard so it's not surprising that Rush finally said what he did. A Republican candidate can't get a better endorsement from a leading talk radio figure than being compared to the ghost of Ronald Reagan, and that's what Limbaugh just did.
