According to sources, Senators John Cornyn, John Barrasso and John Thune are lining up support for an upcoming leadership vote, but apparently Mitch McConnell got wind of it and quashed any rumors.

Ooooh, some juicy gossip coming from the Senate. According to reports, the three Johns (Thune, Cornyn and Barrasso) are jockeying for position for an upcoming leadership vote, suggesting that Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is heading for the door and his retirement benefits.

The Spectator reports that the three Senators "are actively reaching out to fellow Republican senators in efforts to prepare for an anticipated leadership vote — a vote that would occur upon announcement that McConnell would be retiring from his duties as leader, and presumably the Senate itself."

This of course suggests that the fall McConnell took at the Waldorf Astoria (formerly the Trump Hotel) in early March was far worse than anyone has been told. He was reported to have suffered a concussion, which can be grave at his age. After spending time in the hospital, McConnell was released to an inpatient physical therapy facility and then went home, where we heard he was itching to get back to the Senate.

If McConnell were to retire, Kentucky's Democratic governor Andy Beshear would have to appoint a Republican to take his place until an election is held to determine his successor. That wasn't always the case, but the Kentucky legislature fixed that little problem for McConnell earlier.

As I was writing this, it seems as though McConnell has 9 lives. Here's the tweet he just put out, confirming that he would be back bright and early next week.

Oh well, a girl can dream.
