Here's the latest Republican sacrificial lamb nominated for Speaker of the House.
He does have all the necessary qualifications: Made his bones fighting against gay marriage. Wants a national abortion law. Oh, and he's also against military aid to Ukraine. And he's extremely tight (see what I did there?) with the religious Right.
He used to be the senior attorney for the Alliance Defending Freedom, which has originated many hateful lawsuits designed to be heard by the Supreme Court. It would be hard to find someone more stealthily right wing than Johnson.
He does have this one little problem, though. He once implied (in a lawyerly way) that Trump had to "concede" after the election. He didn't mean it!
But don't worry. In January 2020, he voted against certifying the election. He also joined the Texas lawsuit to overturn the election. In fact, the New York Times calls him the "architect" of the Electoral College objections.
So he is surely Trump-approved. Which means he's bad for America.
But don't worry yet, it looks like he doesn't have the votes.
