The Republican Party of Wisconsin had their state convention this weekend and what a shitshow it was! About the only thing they managed to do was showcase how deep their disarray really is.
During the entire thing, party leaders repeatedly called for unity on all the different areas where there are internal riffs. WISGOP Chair Brian Schimming tried to paint the Republicans has a strong force, but then begged for people to come together on different voting issues that the party had been pounding on for the past four years, such as early voting, absentee ballots and using drop boxes. Senator Ron Johnson pled for unity on the issue of abortion. California banker and mail order senatorial candidate begged for people to come together for the American dream's sake.
But true to their nature, the GOP again proved themselves to be the Party of the PUMA (Party Unity My Ass).
There were disagreements on whether Trump should be the nominee - he won less than 79% of the vote in April. There were riffs about whether SCOTUS went too far by overturning Roe V Wade. There were those who adhered to the Big Lie conspiracy theories and those slightly more rooted in reality. Hell, they couldn't even agree on who to allow to speak at the convention. Some people wanted another senatorial candidate to speak her piece but the Republican establishment wouldn't allow it because Hovde was their chosen candidate.
To be fair, it's hard to blame them for the rank and file to be a bit disgruntled, when their leadership is constantly lying to them. Where Schimming tried to tell the masses that the Republicans had the Democrats against the ropes, the truth is that the Democrats have outraised the Republicans by 15:1 through the end of March. It's gotten so the poor, daft buggers don't know what to believe anymore. But that's what happens when you choose to be a Republican.
