Trump's favorite economic henchman, Kevin Hassett, told Fox News Sunday that he disregards the dismal economic polling data because, according to him, every pollster only surveys angry Democrats who hate Trump.
This is ludicrous on every level.
Hassett cherry-picks economic numbers he can manipulate like David Blaine's card magic to make it seem like the US economy is booming while 98% of Americans are suffering.
Hassett talks about historical significance but ignores that Biden was trying to clean up Trump's horrific handling of the pandemic when he took office. COVID supply-chain blockages and Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 drove the surge in inflation.
Yet Hassett conveniently dwells on 2022 to defend Trump now.
"The bottom line is that Biden's economy, right before that election, was truly horrible. We were heading up towards almost close to above 10 to 12 percent inflation," he said. "Real wages were dropping by about 3,000."
Hassett then lied about today's economy.
HASSETT: And so then you ask yourself, OK, if that's a reasonable estimate of what people think about the economy, how come now that we have this booming economy, they say that it's worse?
And the answer is that they're surveying Democrats who hate President Trump.
That's all.
And so, therefore, I disregard that number.
The US economy was in great shape when Trump took office. Trump's illegal tariff schemes, moronic trade wars, and his war with Iran have thrown the country's economic viability into chaos.
Hassett disregards every polling number on Trump's economy because there isn't a single poll that backs up his off-the-wall claim that the economy is booming.
The upper 5% of the country is feeling fine because it holds most of the wealth and benefits from his Big Ugly tax breaks — and that's all Hassett cares about.
Shannon Bream failed to push back against Hassett's assertion that pollsters are only "surveying Democrats," which is a bald-faced lie, since pollsters fully disclose their methodology.
That's par for the course for the US media.
