Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt had a horrendous time coming up with any words to explain away two government investigations and corruption charges leveled against him during a Fox News Sunday interview.

Host Shannon Green asked Gov. Stitt to respond to federal and state audits as well as funneling money to his own business.

This is what the phrase "a deer in the headlights" refers to.

"I want to give you a chance to respond to some of these accusations," Bream said.

"A federal audit that found the state had mishandled thirty-one million dollars in COVID money, a criminal investigation into millions of state contracts with a barbecue restaurant, and also your opponent accuses you of funneling subsidy benefits to your own businesses. I want to get you to respond to the accusations,' Bream asked.

Gov. Stitt sat there completely mute with the mother of all brain freezes, trying to come up with some words to defend the indefensible.

Finally, instead of responding to the allegations, Stitt threw out the old 'George Soros is a boogie man' routine.

Bream then interrupted Stitt's attempt to filibuster her questions away and again asked him for specific responses to the accusations.

Stitt again was mute on screen and then gave a history lesson on how he started his company, then claimed his opponents were twisting the truth.

Stitt never replied to any of the charges specifically, especially how he mishandled COVID relief funds.

Not surprising.

The local polling has Stitt in a very close race with Democratic challenger Joy Hofmeister leading up to the this week's election which is very surprising in a red state like Oklahoma.

A newly released KOCO 5-Amber Integrated poll shows that incumbent Gov. Kevin Stitt is now polling at 45% with likely voters, and Democratic challenger Joy Hofmeister just one point behind. That is well within the 4.4% margin of error, meaning, according to the poll, it's anyone's race.

Apparently, Oklahomans are taking these corruption charges seriously.

Stitt should have been better prepared, but I guess he thought he was joining a Fox News Sean Hannity faux town hall.
