Other notable names who passed away this week include singer-songwriter Johnny Otis, skier Sarah Burke, singer Etta James and longtime Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.

According to iCasualties, the total number of allied service members killed in Iraq was 4,484; in Afghanistan, 2,876. During this same period, Iraq Body Count lists 65 Iraqi civilian deaths, for a month-to-date total of 308.
