Open Thread: Comedian Rips FOX: 'a parade of propaganda'

(John Amato): Comedian Lee Camp was on Fox & Friends Saturday morning and was discussing the lameness that is the Mike Huckabee campaign with a conservative comedian. Yes, they do exist. As the short segment came to a close, he broke from the topic and slammed Murdoch's operation as ignorant.

Camp: Can I just ask a question?

H: Sure.

Camp: What is FOX News---it's just a parade of propaganda isn't it? It's just a festival of ignorance. A million people are dead in Iraq. Come on this is ridiculous....

I...uh...er....perfect. What can I say?

GREAT Clip! Tell it like it is!

Um, so are the other broadcast channels just as much propaganda networks. Fox is just more blatant about it so that the others look more mainstream by comparison.

google CIA Operation Mockingbird and be amazed.

"a festival of ignorance - there's a million dead in Iraq.' Awesome.

Who's the guy?

"festival of ignorance" sums up more than just Faux News

Who is that guy?

Who let the realist into the studio?

Too true, not funny. I love to see pravda choke when the truth pops out of the closet, although ever too seldom.

that guy nailed their fauxnewscrap to the floor

That was great, and we also got another taste of how Fox News plays both sides of Rupert Murdock's fabricated "culture war" with some nice scantily clad ladies to entice and titillate the jack-off mouthbreathers that watch the 24/7 right wing propaganda network.

I love that guy.

Exactly the point I made earlier today-- What is Fox news?? It's hilarious. How can anyone think it's news? Captain Kirk and the leggy crew of the "Enterprise"? C'mon. So a mob of brain-dead hicks in fly-over states, immoral GOP diehards, and Bush watch it-- the idiot 29%.

After hearing about Fox on here for two years (never having seen it in my life) I finally saw it last month, on vacation (my hotel room had Fox on satellite). I laughed my head off. I thought, "Oh, come on, these guys are kidding. No one can believe this." That so many do watch, doesn't say much for US education. A fifth-grader could shoot down half their crap, that's why they don't invite them on the air-- ONLY Kool-aid drinkers allowed.

Absolutely hilarious!! Segue to Cap'n Kirk boning the local groupies, did Faux News plan the whole thing??? Or were they caught with their pants completely down? I'm betting on the latter because the collective intelligence at Faux wouldn't be able to outwit a box of rocks.

Dear C&L posters and others:

Tonight on HBO at midnight, HBO will be presenting the film and documentary about the life of legendary boxer, Joe Louis. Here is a story from the Detroit News, which discusses the film to begin in five minutes. I hope you can all watch it. Thanks and have a great Saturday night!

'Joe Louis' on HBO examines a legend
Mekeisha Madden Toby / Detroit News Television Critic

Joe Louis defeated Max Schmeling in the first round of the world heavyweight boxing championship and became an American hero in 1938 and the first African American to attain that sort of mass appeal.

He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and visited 5 million troops, forcing the military to integrate their audiences whenever he made sparring appearances on bases all over Europe.

But when Louis returned to America and civilian life, his debts and a hefty bill from the IRS were waiting for him, and he would spend most of the rest of his life trying to pay off the government.

Witness this boxing legend's amazing but tragic life story in the heartbreakingly touching HBO documentary "Joe Louis: America's Hero Betrayed," which airs tonight.

The film follows Louis' humble beginnings in Detroit as a factory worker at auto plants such as Ford. Shy and soft spoken, Louis found his confidence in boxing despite his mother's wishes that he pursue the violin, according to several sports historians interviewed in the film, including Randy Roberts.

More telling are the interviews with those who were alive at that time and recall what Louis' victory over Schmeling meant to Americans, specifically African Americans.

"The race needed him to do something white America held on a pedestal," says comedian Bill Cosby. Similar statements of admiration in the film come from Maya Angelou, Dick Gregory, Berry Gordy and former President Jimmy Carter.
Gordy, Gregory and Cosby also lend a voice when recalling Louis' painful and very public fall.

brilliant clip...someone track down who that comic is, i gotta see him when he comes to los angeles

as for joe lewis, the government fucked him

turning his charity work into income was absolute bullshit, and forced him to fight well beyond the time he shouldve quit

the fact that not one rep...not one senator...not one politician stood up for him against the irs, still makes me want to cry

Nice clip. Who/when? Priceless!!!! Now, on to the ST whores!

Montel Williams did a similar thing recently.

I THINK it's a young comedian named Lee Camp. He's got a thing going on Comedy Central this month. I found this on his myspace page and am pretty sure it's him..

Who is that guy, first of all, and I know why it's StarTrek --

The guy on the couch and the Evil Version of him in the upper pane with the beard must be eternally kept separate, or the series will be destroyed.

This explains why all the artificial forms of life on FOX have such limited understanding of the half of the universe they think they inhabit. They are being held captive by a polar Geek with a beard.

I sometimes get a feeling that Fox News is a clever form of parody and we are all just missing the point.

Lee Camp, and the Evil Lee Camp are only allowed to interact through the reality filter at FOX--they only equipment powerful enough to hold their universe together.

The anti-Camp was clearly trying to escape from his cell.

Well, because this is an open thread....

Has anyone noticed that "Visit Orlando" could be "Visitor Land o"

I love that movie "Forrest Gump."

Have a wonderful night everyone...

I just love watching that limp dick talking head try to spew the faux news tagline while trying not to crack up at the same time.

"Ugh, what, can I just ask some questions? What is FOX News? It's just a parade of propaganda, isn't it, it's just a festival of ignorance. What? Why a million people are dead in Iraq, c'mon, this is ridiculous, what's the point of this? This is insane."

nyhmr at [32]: I had wondered that myself too. Is Bill O. (sort of) like Stephen Colbert, but just a very very very bad comedian? He plays like one. I don't take him seriously. He gets $10 million a year to go on the air and blather away about anything he wants, because people watch. He's a showman, not a newsman. He plays a role on TV for big bucks. Truth or fiction don't enter into it-- do people tune in, is all that matters? That is the "American way": profits trump truth.

Hahaha, outstanding. I loved the ensuing fluster-fest. "There's plenty of a...buh ba um....news....err.....you can get all yer news....mmm uhhh...."

Scott Horton Interviews Daniel Ellsberg on Antiwar Radio

Daniel Ellsberg, famous leaker of the Pentagon Papers, and Chris Deliso, of Balkanalysis.com, discuss the case of FBI translator-whistleblower Sibel Edmonds and the international crime rings she exposed

Balkanalysis.com director Christopher Deliso has lived and traveled widely in SE Europe and has a master’s degree with distinction in Byzantine Studies from Oxford University (1999). His two new books, The Coming Balkan Caliphate: The Threat of Radical Islam to Europe and the West and Hidden Macedonia: The Mystic Lakes of Ohrid and Prespa will appeal to readers interested in, respectively, the major security issues involving the region today, and travel in one of Europe’s most fascinating but least visited areas.

Daniel Ellsberg is the author of Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers. He was born in Detroit in 1931. After graduating from Harvard in 1952 with a B.A. Summa cum Laude in Economics, he studied for a year at King’s College, Cambridge University, on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship.

Between 1954 and 1957, Ellsberg spent three years in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as rifle platoon leader, operations officer, and rifle company commander.

From 1957-59 he was a Junior Fellow in the Society of Fellows, Harvard University. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics at Harvard in 1962 with his thesis, Risk, Ambiguity and Decision. In 1959, he became a strategic analyst at the RAND Corporation, and consultant to the Department of Defense and the White House, specializing in problems of the command and control of nuclear weapons, nuclear war plans, and crisis decision-making. He joined the Defense Department in 1964 as Special Assistant to Assistant Secretary of Defense (International Security Affairs) John McNaughton, working on Vietnam. He transferred to the State Department in 1965 to serve two years at the U.S. Embassy in Saigon, evaluating pacification on the front lines. On return to the RAND Corporation in 1967, he worked on the Top Secret McNamara study of U.S. Decision-making in Vietnam, 1945-68, which later came to be known as the Pentagon Papers. In 1969, he photocopied the 7,000 page study and gave it to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; in 1971 he gave it to the New York Times, Washington Post and 17 other newspapers. His trial, on twelve felony counts posing a possible sentence of 115 years, was dismissed in 1973 on grounds of governmental misconduct against him, which led to the convictions of several White House aides and figured in the impeachment proceedings against President Nixon. Since the end of the Vietnam War he has been a lecturer, writer and activist on the dangers of the nuclear era and unlawful interventions.

Wonderful, just wonderful. And what a perfect following "news" segment.

Nice!

Anyone know when this was aired? I have never seen anyone not only bash fox news as bad as this, but to do so in such a "gleeful" manner made it 20x better (or worse if you're fox news).

only on Sat morning TV is this possible. If you have a small child, you can relate, Sat morning TV is the least polished, least prepared TV infotainment, and so moments like this are possible. People should start recording this more. Thank you to this guy.

The most informative 5 seconds ever broadcast on Fox News.

How is Iraq going? Want the truth or the continuation of lies told to you daily by the American media/press and the politicians who mouth the words of "withdrawal" all the while Iraq is turned upside-down. The United States has destroyed Iraq and its once proud culture and is the main reason for the ongoing insurgency.

The war party thinks it is going really "swell." So, are you really, really, tired of the lies and how wonderful Iraq has been since the "surge is working" crap? For regular Iraqis and the overall environmental concerns, all is not well in Iraq. There is a humanitarian and environmental disaster happening in Iraq which the American media/press and the criminal politicians ignore and not talk about. Here is a story which you will never see in the American press/media about the awful conditions in Iraq among Iraqis:

Risk Of Cholera Multiplied By
Sewage Collapse In Baghdad
By Oscar Grenfell
21 February, 2008
WSWS.org

With the northern summer approaching, fears have been voiced that the dysfunctional state of the Iraqi sewerage system will cause a major outbreak of cholera or other water-borne diseases in Iraq’s desperately poor working class districts. Cholera is an acute intestinal infection that causes severe diarrhoea, vomiting and dehydration and can lead to death if untreated. The disease spreads by the ingestion of water or food that has been contaminated by the waste of infected people.

At a press conference on February 3, US Brigadier General Jeffrey Dorko and Tahseen Sheikhly, a spokesman for the Iraqi government, described a public health catastrophe-in-waiting. Dorko reported that one of the three main sewage treatment plants servicing Baghdad had been “damaged over time” and “is just totally out of commission”. The waste pumped to the plant “does go untreated”, he said.

Two other treatment plants are functioning, but not at full capacity due to a range of maintenance problems. Across the city, blockages and damage to sewerage pipes means that raw effluent continues to flow into the streets. One major sewerage trunk pipeline through the city’s south is so blocked that a “sewage lake” has formed due to the mass of waste leaking out...Sheikhly told journalists: “If you look at Baghdad through Google Earth, you can see that there is a black spot in southern Baghdad due to the accumulation of the sewage there.” Ultimately, a large proportion of the city’s sewage ends up in the Tigris River or, worse, finds it way into the city’s water system. Millions of Baghdadi’s are forced to treat all their water with purification tablets or buy bottled water if they can afford it...The crisis is by no means confined to the capital. Approximately 70 percent of Iraqis do no have access to clean drinking water, in part due to the contamination of water sources. Only around 20 percent of families outside Baghdad have access to some sort of sewerage service.

Claire Hajaj, a spokeswoman for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), told the British Guardian last December: “Iraq’s water and sanitation networks are in a critical condition. Pollution of waterways by raw sewage is perhaps the greatest environmental and public health hazard facing Iraqis—particularly children. Water-borne diarrhoea diseases kill and sicken more Iraqi children than anything except pneumonia. We estimate that only one in three Iraqi children can rely on a safe water source—with Baghdad and southern cities most affected.”

If you don't see it or hear it on the news, is it news. Fox producer in Orwell rolls in his grave. Google it.

Once we get past this election and get the Republicans out of the White House we are going to have to turn our attention on getting the corporations out of the news business and put it back into the hands of the people.

I like that Fox brings Lee Camp on every so often and he always manages to mock them. I remember seeing him before and his YouTube page shows that this was not his first Fox appearance. I like the Fox Red Eye clip he has up there.

Do you think anyone actually buys Mann Coulter's books? There has been rumors that right wingers will buy the books at sharply reduced prices and then turn around and send them to the landfill, but she still gets on the best seller list.

Local stations getting struck with acts of non violent resistance would cost Fox a lot of money. The sponsors would become very nervous as well.

True. I could get off my lazy ass and take a train to Long Island or something. Take a cue from the "Pro-Life" movement and make a daily point of being obnoxious while holding up graphic images of Iraqis killed, American soldiers killed and the likes with text saying "The Blood is on Your Hands" or something of the likes. Got any ideas for stupid git 72?

You don't start a movement with ten million people. Movements don't start big, they start small. Shutting down Fox News will take a lot of work and a lot of time. Nothing quite like fighting one of the most powerfull and distorted news organizations on the planet.

Bet his next gig is Countdown.

Here is an idea. We could copy the concept of "Web Event" that is not the right name but a few years back there were several with people who were connected online all showing up at a particular place at a particular time and doing some silly things. We could do something similar but maybe not in the same place. The same time would work though. Planned simultaneous, quick short demonstrations. An hour of our time here and there and it could be kind of fun and creative.

And to think the Reich wing tried a comedy show that failed {The half hour news}. All they really had to do to have a smash comedy hit was to add a laugh track to faux News

In my younger days i was with a group of people who went into a City Council hearing and added a laugh track by turning on "laughing boxes," leaving them under their seats and walking out.

And stupid git, why not change your logo to stupid not.

I think a simultaneous demonstration held at a predetermined but random time where people would just simply go with at least one friend to a reasonably busy intersection with signs that said, "Fox Lies" would be a good start. Not that difficult, not hard to get to, just a little bit of effort.

Just a 30 minute exercise.

It's the station he bought in Georgia. CIA dems don't like foreign borns doing anything outside the US.

Hi Ron! 8-)

xoites defends Constitution @ 92:

I think you just found one friend, Stupid Git, but i might suggest a name change for press purposes. :)

Thanks. Been trying to make changes in small ways like canceling my Sprint/Nextel cellphone account I'd had for eight years after the telecom win in the Senate and switching to Credo who donates 1% of my bill to progressive causes, writing, calling and emailing state and national congress, telling friends and family to switch at least one night a week from the network news to PBS hoping they'll end up liking it better and switch for real. Got rid of all credit, avoid buying from any major chains - both of which are difficult when running my own business - and basically just trying to be a better citizen.

After the funk I fell into back in 2002/2003 when almost 80% of the nation seemed to have lost it's collective mind. Even though people like me who saw the damn towers fall right in front of our faces were protesting the war and knew we were being fed lies, it seemed the rest of the country was ready to give up all the principles our nation was founded on while calling people like us protesting the war "commies", "pinkos", "fags", "traitors" and everything else they hate. Now that we've "lost" the war they've come around but not to our side, they still think it's all good, it was just executed poorly. They think our rights aren't as valuable as some false sense of security, not to mention all my beefs with our nation's attitude toward the environment, economy, regulation and just basic competence...

I've made some films, donated time to documentaries, written songs and used my skills to try and spread the message but for some reason it took me a while to realize that preaching doesn't mean shit without action. So, now I'm willing to get back out on the streets again, end up on Homeland Security lists again (if they took me off in the first place) and say "f*ck it, what in my life is more important than my personal debt to humanity?" Humanity gave me the luxuries I have. It's only fair.

So, I finally returning to the radical I was in my early twenties, this time armed with experience, knowledge and a little more status... Sorry it took me so long to come back from my depression.

By the way, my real name is Geoff Ryan. "Stupid Git" is the name of one of my songs, and a running joke amongst friends.

Thanks again for the compliment and for letting me get that all off my chest.

Hey, you could be my friend Geoff in Washington but I know he is probably out partying tonight.

Most likely not, I'm in NYC.

Down to 19%.

Hi Proud 2 be

I prefer to see it as passing through 19% in the right direction, finally. If you wanna forestall carpal by a coupla minutes, go with '2b', or not...

I thought the best part of the entire clip is that the guy rips fox news for being festival of ignorance and they cut his mic so that they can move on to a clip with bimbos dressed up like trekkies.
Beautiful.
They cut the guy off in order to make his point for him.

I am in Las Vegas, i met Janet on this website, fell in love and move here from Catonsville, Maryland (two blocks from Baltimore) in August to be with her.

2B or not 2B

Which is my apartment?

That was the pesky resistance!

No, wait!

That would be us. :)

Tim@124 I think that irony is a concept that evades the folks at Fox.

Much like truth.

Does anyone know why a man who can't string a sentence together is our President and yet a man who speaks with inspiration can only be characterized as a "cult leader?"

Just following up: Does anyone know of any good organizations that lead protests that I could look into. I used to do some stuff with MoveOn but in this city at least they're more interested in celebrity events and fundraisers then ground level action anymore and my old protest buddies have pretty much settled down with jobs and mortgages and all that good stuff. Hard to believe in NYC I've somehow managed to lose touch with activists but it seems the only thing people are willing to get excited about is the Giants, protesting Joe Torre's leaving the Yankees and "Obama-fever!!!" which is just disgusting. Hurray, a centrist!!!!! We're veering right toward a chasm and they're happy just straightening out when what we really need is a serious yank back to the left. I get so pissed when my friends and acquaintances travel to all these different states to support Obama in some shitty primary election then continue bitching about corporations, the rightwing control over the political, religious and social issues in the country. If I hear another person say, "Anything's better than Bush" I'm gonna snap. After eight years of neocon disaster that's the best us liberals can pull off? A centrist?

Sorry, another rant. Anyway, anyone know of some active liberal groups that are doing good stuff I could look into helping out?

Congrats! That's wonderful.

Hmmm... don't know anyone in Vegas though. No use to you on that one.

Yes.

Of course there are some vaguely amusing things on TV on a Saturday night...

Notice that I said vaguely...

Fellowship of Reconciliation comes to mind, for a lot of good reasons but i am not sure they are organizing protests at the moment. I was thinking of us organizing protests. I think we can do it. Don't you?

I think characterizing him as a cult leader is ignorant and idiotic. That said, I know many Obama supporters who are out of control with their obsession for him.

I've produced films and managed to figure out how to run a clunky business even though I'm an art school drop out so I guess I wouldn't put it past me. I just don't know where to start. I'll look up the "Fellows" you recommend though and see if there are any leads. Otherwise I'll start doing my research on how this stuff is done.

Or sociopathically calculated to be accepted by ignorant idiots...

Mike (Xoites),

Thanks so much for the encouragement. Don't be afraid to keep on my tail about it when you see a "Stupid Git" roaming these pages.

Also, here's my email in case you ever have anything you feel is of interest or importance.

I spent 20 years protesting and have been arrested 30 times. Six times in the White House. If you need a resource i might be the one you need to talk to.

Or that. :)

One of my old buddies depressed the hell out of me the other day. He was one of the guys burning shit in Seattle during the notorious WTO riot - one of those dreadlocked white boys who lived on the fringes of society rebelling against the man - and he just told me the other day he's caught Obama-fever. I about dropped a load in my shorts when he said that. This guy voted for Nader in 2000 and 2004 and somehow Obama got him. It's a sad time in this country.

Huckabee can act dumb and still be smarter than the rest of the rest of his party. Though he still has a lot to explain about the earth only being 5,000 years okd.

There's been one decent cult that I know of...

Wow. I'll find my target and get back to you when I have a tentitive plan and need to find some fellow activists to make a presence - even if just a small one. As I've learned from the Pro-Lifers, it's not how many people you have, it's how targeted and how persistent you are. Of course, having "god" on your side doesn't hurt either so they've got that on me :)
