<i>"President Bush"</i> and <i>"Colin Powell"</i> Arrested. Sort Of.
By Mark Groubert Saturday Jul 12, 2008 11:00amNicole posted about these casting choices back in May for Oliver Stone's new movie, W. The Stray Cat Bar in Shreveport, Louisiana was the site of a massive bar fight early Saturday morning which led to the arrest of two actors portraying President George W. Bush and former Secretary of State Colin Powell. Josh Brolin, 40, who portrays President Bush and Jeffrey Wright, 42, who depicts Colin Powell in Oliver Stone's upcoming film, "W," were taken into custody along with five others around 2 am. Apparently in casting Brolin as Bush, director Oliver Stone liked what he saw. In 2004, Brolin was arrested and charged with spousal battery for hitting his wife, award-winning actress Diane Lane. Brolin was later released after posting $20,000 bail. "There was a misunderstanding at their home," explained the couple's spokesperson Kelly Bush.
You can't make this stuff up folks.

They should have cast a monkey for the chimp, really.
Will they be impeached?
Queen Nancy will lead the charge personally.
Um, what?
My first impression was why is this a post?
Seemed a bit like the "Your name is familiar to a turrist, therefore we can't let you on this plane" issue.
Or is Oliver Stone making a movie about how great W is?
I remember playing a secret service guy in a TV movie called "The Big Dance" a few years ago. Standing in the aisle of Air Force One with the actors portraying Rove, Fleischer, Card and Bush (Tim Bottoms) as we waited to get off at Offutt Air Force Base had to be one of the most surreal moments in my life. Can't say I've any interest in seeing these buffoons portrayed anywhere again except on cartons of milk with the word "Missing" underneath their photos.
I'm going to enjoy the lighter moment. this is fun.
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't ever hit Diane Lane! Whatever it was, I would have found another way.
Oh yeah, why wouldn't Oliver stone go after W. It's too target-rich not to.
its funny (really, it isn't) that the person portraying bush is actually held to account for his crimes, while the real bush skips off into the sunset...
And your point is?
..and friends, John Wilkes Booth shot President Lincoln at a theater and ran to a warehouse. And Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy from a warehouse and ran to a theater... etc.
Josh Brolin's eyes are set too far apart for him to portray a convincing Bush.
Other than that, he seems perfectly typecast -- an egotistical idiot with no impulse control.
6 Samson- Says: its funny (really, it isn’t) that the person portraying bush is actually held to account for his crimes, while the real bush skips off into the sunset…
The big thitthy...
Considering how Oliver Stone ignored the facts surrounding the JFK Assasination i am disapointed to hear that he is attempting to butcher the Bush fiasco.
Unfortunately boosh isn't going off into the sunset
But Dallas, Texas
My home turf (Technically Plano, but that's almost like a suburb, but has it's own city government).
If boosh crossed my path I'd spit at his shoes
But I have bad aim
Who knows where the loogy will land?

Ya got my respect. Not just spit, A LOOGY!

Jon Stewart does one of the best imitations of the "monkey" . No way Stewart would take on the part. Brolin is far too handsome to play Bush.
Just keep thinking the "retroactive immunity" having to do with FISA has to do with the "alleged" spying on Colin Powell and UN officials by John Bolton when he accessed those NSA intercepts. Just can not forget the faces of Senator's Biden, Dodd, Lincoln Chaffee, Boxer, Kerry during the John Bolton nomination hearings when they were again demanding that those NSA intercepts be handed over. I thought they were going to jump over the tables and beat the living hell out of John Bolton that day.
Sidney Blumenthal wrote one of the best articles about this situation called "The Good Generals Revenge"
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/apr/28/usa.comment
"The Bolton confirmation hearings have revealed his constant efforts to undermine Powell on Iran and Iraq, Syria and North Korea. They have also exposed a most curious incident that has triggered the administration's stonewall reflex. The foreign relations committee has discovered that Bolton made a highly unusual request and gained access to 10 intercepts by the National Security Agency, which monitors worldwide communications, of conversations involving past and present government officials. Whose conversations did Bolton secretly secure and why?
Staff members on the committee believe that Bolton was probably spying on Powell, his senior advisers and other officials reporting to him on diplomatic initiatives that Bolton opposed. If so, it is also possible that Bolton was sharing this top-secret information with his neoconservative allies within the Pentagon and the vice-president's office, with whom he was in daily contact and who were known to be working in league against Powell.
If the intercepts are released they may disclose whether Bolton was a key figure in a counter-intelligence operation run inside the Bush administration against the secretary of state, who would resemble the hunted character played by Will Smith in Enemy of the State. Both Republican and Democratic senators have demanded that the state department, which holds the NSA intercepts, turn them over to the committee. But Rice so far has refused. What is she hiding by her cover-up? "
I AM NOT CONCERNED AS TO WHETHER THEY ARE SPYING ON YOUR AVERAGE AMERICAN (ALTHOUGH JOHN DEAN HAS STATED THAT THAT SHOULD BE OF CONCERN). I REALLY THINK THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION IS COVERING THEIR ASSES HAVING TO DO WITH THE SPYING THEY CONDUCTED ON POWELL AND OTHER OFFICIALS

Wasn't Bush a drunken fratboy in his youth? (well, at least that's where he began).
Maybe Brolin was getting into character.
Speaking of, isn't Brolin a bit too good-looking to play Shrub? Even with makeup and all, I can't see a very convincing portrayal.
Gotta admire Brolin: he's method.
This is what politics does to people. Before the 2004 election, I was told I had no morals and my candidate(Kerry) had no moral standing, I was told that I was weak on terror, and I didn't understand we were in mortal danger. And that was from my family members. These are people who don't read newspapers and watch Faux News. What are they saying now? Will, suprisingly, NOTHING! I pisses me off that we, Americans, are suffering because of our fellow countrymens ignorance.

Either that or it will pass like one.
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 20:
They should get one of the lookalike comedians to play him. Give them an opportunity for a serious part.
xoites defends Constitution @ 21:
OUCH!!! Been there!!! Never again if I can help it!
There are plenty of alcoholics in America willing to play that monkey.
WMorrisLives @ 16:
Bundy and Chimpy almost brudders going by some of Bundy's 70s photographs.
Samson- @ 6:
back to his pig farm in Crawford, wonder if Rove has been 'bricktopped' yet (from the movie Snatch) ?
Ron @ 22:
Agreed. Even though bush is an evil SOB and some of what is depicted in a movie about smirk will need to be serious, alot of what that dumbass does is comedy.
Republicans to the American public regarding the collapse of the economy
Advice to any Repug minions (ie low level 'hired help' like Rove) regarding their chances of collecting their pensions,
remember the Florida two/three !
PassedPawn @ 27:
Farrell, going by 'old school' and some trailer for his new film 'Step Brothers' which I watched a bit of the other day, perfect to play the retard Chimpy.
garcia @ 24:
Hey I support anyone willing to deal with their addictions. It is a disease you know. The only problem is Bush has never embraced the 12 step program. The man is still in denial and has killed a lot of people, undermined our nation, put money in his cronies pockets and committed so many crimes during his reign that there are almost too many to count. Our nation will be cleaning up after this dry drunk for a very long time
I wouldn't mind taking Brolin into custody myself.
Rowwwwrrr.
Kathleen @ 30:
Its a shame he never embraced the gauge back in the 90s...
but hes partly a puppet and a member of a criminal cabal, that much evil doesnt flow from just one person.
How was the incident a "massive bar fight"? At worst, it seems as if a lighting tech got drunk and belligerent, and the other production members there (Brolin, Wright, etc.) tried to delay the cops. The police report categorized it as a "disorderly person call".
Apparently, you can make at least some of it up.
Brolin is just preparing for his role.
“President Bush” and “Colin Powell” Arrested. Sort Of.
A foreshadowing of things to come.
Could be that word spread what movie the actors were working on and some disgruntled citizen decided to voice dispproval. This could be a sign of things to come for Bush and his cohorts. After January, there won't be a safe place on the planet for them.
These guys should rethink their decisions to play these jackasses. They will be forever typecast and won't work another day of their lives on anything other than B- movies.
I would cast Abraham Jackemov, as Jack Abramoff, Jim Guckert as Jeff Gannon, Penis Navey as Dick Armey, and Anus Socko, as Colon Powell.
jeffrey wright is a good man, a good father, a good actor with good progressive politics; i hate to see this site used as a vehicle to spread this kind of trashy sensationalism. no telling what "obstructing a law enforcement officer" means... especially for a black man from the northeast down in louisiana.
and if we are trying to make some pithy parallel with the felonious war crimes bush & co have perpetrated, we might note that these were both misdemeanors.
gkp @ 39:
I don't think Mark is saying that Wright or anyone else here is a bad person. And of course Wright's a progressive. This is an Oliver Stone film, not one by John Milius.
Mark doesn't post here often, gkp, but when he does it's on the lite/humorous side. So take it with a grain of salt, I guess.
ferrofluid (Obama 08) @ 32:
I agree. Psychopaths seemed to hang out during WWII and in this administration
Hope he got some teeth knocked out in the fight, hitting his wife is just pathetic. I will be sure to never watch a movie he is in again, and this W movie will be a giant Oliver Stone turd.
So the bar had their own colinectomy?
Goonies will never be the same knowing the guy who played
Brand (whom I had a crush on as a teen) turned out to be
a major asshole.
What a dick...guess Troy wasn't such 'the bad kid' after all.
how can anyone hit dianne lane?
i have had such a crush on her since streets of fire, and as she gets older, she only gets more beautiful

Hey guys, I bet some heavy cash that Rove eloped with Jeff Gannon. I bet they are in Molokay island, "Incognito", if you get my drift.
Is it me or does Bush's smile look like an evil smile?
So now C & L is getting into tabloid stories. Without further reporting, all this blog entry is is hearsay. After all, Brolin and Lane are still together and it is still disputed whether the actors got physical at all.
The best comparison to Bush is "reporting from the gut".
I'm sure Brolin is just trying to get inside his Bush role, by drinking, fighting, and hitting his wife. Toss in some cocaine and some dry oil wells that pump sand... Put some grey in his hair, and have the makeup lady give his eyes that "close set" retard appearance.
Jesus, I look more like Bush and Powell than either of them. They actually would have been closer to the mark if they'd switched the two actors. Powell looks more like Brolin and Bush looks more like Wright.
Truth is stranger than fiction.
Oliver Stone is making a movie about "W"....
pha-leeeze. Can't we get a serious filmmaker to take this on? Stone Sucks! Don't believe me? Just check these beauties out next time you rent a DVD
World Trade Center (2006)
Alexander (2004)
Nixon (1995)
JFK (1991)
The Doors (1991)
BLECK! The guy makes the cinematic equivelant of "bubble gum music"
Did Brolin say he was "defending freedom" in that bar at 2 a.m.? If so, it's a perfect example of life imitating art.
