Well, now that the big news about the White House's offer to Joe Sestak has been revealed -- that is, it was simply the usual D.C. horsetrading that's been part of American politics since the Founders -- there seem to be a lot of disappointed right-wingers wondering where to take it all next.

Sure, it's a luscious tidbit that Bill Clinton was involved. But unless someone can find some "there" there, this is yet another hyperinflated non-story.

Over at Fox, watching coverage throughout the morning was like listening to the hot air seep out of a hyperinflated balloon -- which is pretty much what the story was anyway. Fox had invested great amounts of breathless rhetoric in blowing the story up the past several days, particularly on Sean Hannity's show.

Wonder how that "Reagan Republican" will explain away the fact that his idol engaged in precisely the same kind of horsetrading?

Ken Rudin at NPR notes:

Meanwhile, Matt Ortega, on Twitter, has unearthed an Associated Press story from 1981. Here's the first paragraph:

Sen. S.I. Hayakawa on Wednesday spurned a Reagan administration suggestion that if he drops out of the crowded Republican Senate primary race in California, President Reagan would find him a job.

Hayakawa, who was seeking a second term at the time, was being urged by GOP officials to withdraw from the 1982 primary, a race that included, among others, Reps. Barry Goldwater Jr. & Bob Dornan, San Diego Mayor Pete Wilson, and First Daughter Maureen Reagan. The last thing the White House wanted was a split-conservative field that would end in the nomination of Rep. Pete McCloskey, a longtime anathema to the Right.

Hayakawa ultimately decided not to run for re-election. Wilson won the primary and was elected in November.

Ah well. No doubt the minds at Fox are working on figuring out their next fake controversy. Maybe, if Glenn Beck has his way, they'll investigate Malia's "improper lobbying" of her father.

I was really shaken by this " scandal " .

I don't think that even the Klan focuses so much hatred on Obama as Fox.

The Klan is dead. It's blood and honour, stormfront and combat 18 Nazi fucks now, and i'm sure they hate Obama or/and America more than Faux!

Your nutz if you really think Fox is gonna let this go, just because some messy facts might be getting in the way.

Fox and the Wingers pile-on; their strategy is to keep up a steady drumbeat to undermine Obama. They MAY move on to another faux-scandal, but they will not abandon this.

Fox has vast reservoirs of throwing mud at its' disposal and more than sufficient to deal with any leaks coming out the riser.

Agree. They're going to double down in this one. Sure, they could claim that not being at Arlington on Memorial Day means that he hates the troops, but that's a given. Creating the impression that Obama is illegitimate, that's the real prize, and this is an entirely new angle they haven't explored yet. Expect this to be a new birth certificate / Rev. Wright sized nontroversey for years to come.

Afghanistan...(but, but, Obama's too wussy on National Security)...but had he decided NOT to send more troops to Afghanistan...(Obama's too wussy on National Security)...

they insist on having EVERYTHING both ways!

He's an ivory tower elitist (he's a nerd) but he uses a teleprompter (he's dumb). I could go on forever.

by ClusterFox over this, you'd think that SCOTUS had thrown a presidential election or something.

Pearl clutching and couch fainting. That sounds about right.

he's on MSNBC, not Faux because he's been doing the same thing.

had Issa on his show and came real close to calling him crazy to his face. I don't know how he restrained himself.

There was a scandal?

...that the very first time I heard this story, I instantly thought 'what are the real world implications if this is true?'. Very few...no illegal wars will get started from it...no people will be held and tortured illegally, there will be no weapons contracts or private military contractors taking over or CIA agent's lives being put at risk or...

...blah blah as they say...business as usual! But at least, not a totally unprecedented perversion of the law, ala Dick freakin' Cheney!

This Fox guys are UNBELIEVABLE. The moment it is politically expedient to care about the law, they are OBSESSED with it. What did he know...when did he know it!?

Well you set the precedent that the law doesn't matter, republicans, so shut the F up. Maybe they should prosecute Sestak or somebody else...AFTER they prosecute for WAR CRIMES.

As the story says, this type of political maneuvering happens all the time. I kept wondering what the heck the big deal was! SO WHAT? But of course Fixed has to sound the trumpets as if the White House and Clinto did something ethically wrong. They didn't. Sestak didn't bite. Hope he beats Toomey and is elected. I'm sure he and the White House will be professional enough to work together if he does.

Rush Limbaugh is what a smart person thinks a stupid bigot sounds like.

It's not as evil as HCR, either, but it's worth spending more valuable air time talking about this than "death panels?"

Fox , nothing but fountains of bullshit for the bull shit lovers .Goebbels would be very proud .

After 8 years of Bush the shit bags over at Fox are outrage at this nontroversy

When I was a kid we got a kick out of mixing every flavor of cola into a single drink. We called it a “Suicide”. It most likely tasted nasty, but we didn’t care. It was fun. We created a lot of weird concoctions when I was 10 years old.

Fox is 10 years old. They are mixing everything they can find into some strange concoction and it’s indeed nasty. They don’t care. It’s fun.

I grew up. They are still on the “Suicide” kick.

Fox will drop this once they realize that they are only reminding Americans that if Republicans are in charge of Congress they can look forward to endless investigations instead of governance.

It's not like he started an unprovoked war, or took bribes to screw his constituency, or broke and ingored every law on the books, while shredding the constitution.

Now those would be things worth investigating! Eh' Dana Bash....., you moron.

"But Barrack Obama was supposed to end politics as usual." If you're going to use that phrase as a catch-all for corruption, then how do you account for the fact that everything government does is "politics as usual." ELECTIONS are "politics as usual."

It was won in part because of the agility with which the British and Americans planted false intelligence into the fertile fields of German counter-intelligence. We told them how to plan their attacks. This is something that little banty rooster Rahm Emanuel guy Obumma keeps around him all the time. If Emanuel could be half as devious as Rove without the mean-spiritedness he could do a lot for the boss.
