Bill O'Reilly did an interesting thing last night when he reran that footage of Barney Frank castigating that woman carrying an Obama-as-Hitler sign at his town-hall meeting on health care: He completely omitted the fact that the woman who Frank was castigating was in fact a member of the far-right Lyndon Larouche cult.

All O'Reilly could muster was to mention that the woman was "a political activist." But that's like calling a Great White Shark a fish.

No, right-wingers like O'Reilly have been eagerly airbrushing out the existence of right-wing extremists from their worldview for some time now, embodied by their reaction to that DHS bulletin. But it's getting harder and harder to do all the time now.

Because, as we've noted, the far-right extremists are bubbling up everywhere in supposedly mainstream conservative circles these days -- particularly at the tea parties and their associated health-care protests.

Most recently, it turns out that the guys who brought those guns to a health-care forum in Arizona in fact were longtime members of the old Arizona Vipers Militia. These were characters who, prior to their arrests in 1996, had stockpiled close to 2,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate and conducted field training exercises, practiced bomb-making, and trained with illegal automatic weapons.

Now, all the Fox talkers have been in heavy denial about extremists showing up for their tea-party protests, even making a regular joke out of it by asking the protesters they have on their show if they're Klan members and the like.

But it's becoming clearer all the time that, while not everyone at these events is an extremist, the percentages of them keep going up and up. And with them, so does the threat to public safety.

..having all these nuts crawl out from under their rocks and side with the GOP will help seal the fate of that permanent minority party. Meanwhile, hate speechers like BOR and Rush will have to continually ratchet up the shrillness which will further separate and shrink their wingnut audience.

I had suspected that stupid bitch was a plant. A dumb, stupid plant at that.

She is associated with crackpots like Lyndon Larouche, yet these degenerates at Fox News were quick to condemn Barney Frank for calling her out on her bullshit.

Knowing this now, I feel that Barney Frank was way too nice with her.

Name one thing Lyndon LaRouche has said about the financial collapse that has been incorrect. Name one thing he has predicted that has not come to pass. Do some homework. You know nothing about LaRouche if you think he's a right wing wacko. He ran for president several times as a Democrat. Get it right.

Peter G's picture

Technically he is a left wing wacko.

One must remember that the Nazis were ostensibly a socialist movement as well as a nationalist one. It was all just a smokescreen for fascism.

Hitler enlisted the aid of major corporations (and the Catholic Church) to further his agenda ... neither he, nor any other country, has ever been "socialist."

"In Nazi Germany, private capitalist individuals owned the means of production, and they in turn were frequently controlled by the Nazi party and state. True socialism does not advocate such economic dictatorship -- it can only be democratic."

of "ostensibly". Read Bullock's A Study in Tyranny. The Nazis cast themselves as Socialists. That doesn't mean they were anymore than is Larouche. He is merely a demagogue in search of a mob.

Hasa Diga Eebowai

No, he ran as a Democrat for the same reasons George Wallace did.

LaRouche is a far-right demagogue who started out as a far-left demagogue and then quickly changed sides.

Political Research Associates has the complete rundown on LaRouche. He is a far-right figure through and through these days, and has been for some time.

Wallace was a Democrat because, since the demise of the southern Whig Party (the GOP, because of its anti-slavery platform, never gained traction in the South) in the aftermath of the Civil War, southerners from across the political spectrum- left, center and right- were (practically) ALL Democrats, from the late 1860's until the fruition of the GOP's "Southern Strategy" in the early 1980's.

LaRouche, however, joined the Democratic Party in order to subvert it. He had founded the US Labor Party in the early '70's and ran for the presidency as that party's candidate in '76, gaining only 0.05% of the popular vote. In '79 LaRouche decided to have his followers join the Democratic Party and run their own stealth campaigns for elected offices. IIRC, at one point a LaRouchie was elected as Lt. Governor of Illinois.

On the edit: The LaRouchie in Illinois won the Democratic primary for Lt. Governor, but lost in the general election.

Actually, if you read Nixonland, you'll discover that Nixon recruited Wallace to run as a Democrat purely to undermine it and help drive Wallace voters eventually into the arms of the Republicans. Worked brilliantly, too.

Andy K's picture

I understand where you're going with this now, David, but there's still a big difference between Wallace, who had been a part of the southern Democratic establishment for decades before running for the presidency, and LaRouche, who joined the party at some point between '76 and '80 with the sole purpose of subverting it.

I remember him flipping in the maelstrom. Then he got shot in the back and ended up in a wheelchair.
His supporters didn't appreciate him flipping on them.
These are the thugs that are what we now consider birthers, deathers,Obama is the antichrist, He's a secret muslim, he's a communist,.....geezz, this has been going on for so long now, I really can't keep up anymore.
At anyrate, Wallace was shot in the back by his own.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

mudshark's picture

I was using my memory for the info.
The fact is that he was shot 5 times in the arms and stomach.
One which nicked nerves in his spine.
But, it was one of his own that shot him. The guy was nuts.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

LaRouche never changed... neither did Wallace.

LaRouche is an excellent example of the old observation that the far left and far right curve around to cuddle on the far side of sanity.

Reaping what they sowed? The Fox Opinion Network has a supply of spinning rhetoric ready, so they can get out of anything they promoted if it turns into calamity. Places in hell are being reserved for them all.

Lyndon LaRouche is not a right-winger by any means. You need to do your homework, he is a huge supporter of FDR and JFK, and has been 100% CORRECT on his predictions about the monetary system and the global financial collapse going back over a decade. If you ever heard him speak, he is by far NOT a right-winger. He's 86 years old, so he's from a conservative generation, but he's a huge supporter of the New Deal and he is correctly criticizing Obama for being owned by the Trilateral Commission.

Just do some homework, just a little bit goes a long way. Stop being sheep and quoting mainstream folks who have been steering us the wrong way for at least 40 years. Parrots!

LaRouche is a fascist and a demagogue -- kinda like Sarah Palin.

sprthmmr's picture

If you ever heard LaRouche speak, he has said nothing that is incorrect about the financial collapse. He is a big FDR/JFK fan, how can you say he's a right winger? Or a Facist? He is warning against facism: corporate control of the government. Obama is tied to Wall Street worse than any other president (I voted for him, I'm a Democrat) but the public didn't realize it 'til they saw his economic "plan". LaRouche and Palin have nothing in common whatsoever. Do some homework.

Again, when did I say LaRouche was a right-winger? He is, however, a demagogue, which is what Sarah Palin is.

Please, go back to your LaRouche PAC website.

and the descriptive (winger) is part of the hyphenated word...it doesn't really matter whether they're left or right IMHO...only that they're not at all sane, and potentially dangerous.
Once someone gets to that point...ideology make little difference.

THAT said...in THIS country anyway...the right-wingers are much more prone to commit acts of terrorism.

I think what the pro-Ladouche guy is missing is...the key word in the headline here...EXTREMIST...

Left, right, whatever...extremism just fucking sucks.

Again, as I said above, it's perfectly accurate to describe LaRouche as a right-winger, since he migrated from the far left quite some time ago. Read Chip Berlet for more on this.

liberalNmoderation's picture

Seems like I got some readin to do!

Peter G's picture

we could certainly get into a semantic debate about what constitutes a left wing nut or a right wing nut and it is true that Larouche's current dogma is pure undiluted right wing demagoguery but I think it is a serious mistake to disown the man's populist left wing roots. As I pointed out above the Nazis pretended to socialism and in the pre-war years instituted some socialist policies. That did not change their fundamental nature as fascists. It matters because of where he is harvesting support and that is from both the left and right. It matters because he was able to run for president as a Democrat so many times. They always seem able to find a spoon long enough to sup with such devils and that is a concern.

And to the one pro LaRouche guy here today...no, I'm NOT suggesting that LaRouche ever committed an act of terrorism...

As for LaRouche being wrong ... I've got a LaRouche book in my possession from the mid-1980s, in which he predicted a complete global economic collapse by the early 1990s.

Right.

He was also a big Y2K Apocalypse promoter in the late '90s. Bzzzzzzzt!

But

have you heard him speak, apparently it renders you without reason (see above).

I figured the dumb bitch at the Barney Frank town hall was a LaRouche cultist when she compared the health care reform plans to the Nazi Action T4 Program. After she mentioned that she deserved the boos she got and the ridicule from Frank.

sprthmmr's picture

...but nothing they are saying is incorrect. Obama has mirrored the Trilateral Commission's health plan for the globe developed to control population. This is common knowledge to anyone who understands who drives US policy. LaRouche and his followers are pointing out that our country is on the brink of collapse unless we adopt the FDR/JFK financial plans for our country. If you think LaRouche is a right-winger, then you know nothing about him or the recent history of the Democratic party.

Did I say LaRouche was a right-winger?

And no, they are not correct in calling health care reform the Nazi T4 Action Program. Just read the damn "Advance Care Planning Consultation" provision in HR 3200. It's end-of-life counseling sessions are voluntary.

sprthmmr's picture

And you trust our government to do this, under these conditions? Glad you're confident they're doing the right thing. The Germans loved this kind of stuff, too, back in the 1930s. They gobbled it right up. We're mirroring everything that happened 100 years ago.

I don't trust the government implicitly. But I do trust what I have read for my own eyes -- you should try reading -- and there is nothing in HR 3200 about "mandatory death panels."

sprthmmr's picture

What has LaRouche said about the current economic collapse that is inaccurate or nutty? Seems to me, the mainstream are the nut cases. At least in America right now. It's time to realize it.

theWalrus's picture

started out as a Marxist. He has had some very colorul conspiracy theories throughout the years. I particularly like the one about the Beatles being created by the British Military for psychological warfare. That certainly turned out to be true.

As I said before, LaRouche is from an older, conservative generation. He's not big on the cultural changes during the past 40 years, so yeah...like millions of other people...he thought the Beatles were bad for the culture. Just a generational difference, lots of people still think that way.

What about what he has said about the financial collapse? I'm very interested in what he has to say lately because he's been 100% correct. I like the fact that he is pro-FDR, pro-JFK style recovery...the most American program we could have.

LaRouche is nutty in some ways, but he's been dead=on about the current world situation and where we're headed. His followers take it a bit far, but he's definitely on-target with what we need to do to stop this collapse before it's too late. (It already is, but we can still try.)

One of my grandfather didn't like the Beatles but, unlike LaRouche the wackjob, he didn't think they were created in some sort of conspiracy.

... complain about how C&L didn't do its homework on LaRouche and what he *really* stands for (He's a Democrat! He's an American's American!) isn't far off from that debate with a kitchen table that Barney Frank mentioned.

I know people who are certified flying-saucer believers, and they're repeatedly telling me that if I just read the right people, I'd know it was all a conspiracy by the Trilateral Commission, the Bilderbergers, the Anunaki, and the secret Obama-Bush-Cheney-Clinton cabal. Oh, and the mainstream media is controlling your brain through Billy Mays infomercials.

Naturally, LaRouche is the One Man Who Is Telling The Truth. The rest of you disbelievers are stupid and uneducated, unlike the messenger, who is one of the chosen, one of the pure, whose mind has never been sullied by the disinformation put out by the enemy.

Shorter version? Go peddle your nonsense somewhere else.

For those who still want to claim LaRouche is a "left winger", read this.

It details just how he went through the transformation from radical left-winger to radical right-winger in the 1970s. He has been on the far right ever since.

the LaRouche wackos must think Obama is one of their own.

Thanks for that David. From my earliest days of political awareness (the mid-70s), LaRouche has always been filed under "right wing loon," conveninently located next to "Birch, John Society."

The obfuscation the LaRouchers and Paulistas use (mentioning Ronnie/Lyndon and Kucinich in the same sentence as if there are anything beyond surface similarities, for example) to try to gain credibility are humorous at best, pathetic at worst.

"Oh, darn it, Kucinich didn't get the nomination so I'm going to vote for Ron Paul instead." Riiiiiiiight!

To the Larouche cultist in this thread:

Just because he calls himself a Democrat, and a admirer of JFK, doesn't mean he's "left wing".

Look at the positions he takes. Fred Phelps calls himself a Democrat too, it's the oldest play in the propaganda game.
