Watching Sarah Palin being interviewed is always a little like watching an incoherent art-student film or something from a William S. Burroughs fantasy. It obviously comes from a completely different planet in a different quadrant of the universe.

For example, among the things you learned by watching Palin on Sean Hannity's Fox News show last night were the following nuggets:

-- Palin still is unhappy with the McCain campaign for not having smeared Barack Obama enough with phony association-game stuff about Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright -- you know, issues Americans really cared about.

-- She seems to have been watching a lot of Glenn Beck, though, because she practically repeats Beck's favorite talking points about Obama's supposedly nefarious associations.

-- Palin says "it wasn't negative campaigning and it wasn't off-base to call someone out on their associations." Hmmmm. Well, when Max Blumenthal and I did just that with Palin over her lengthy far-right associations, she completely freaked out.

-- Obama is "dithering" in Afghanistan. And evidently, if Palin were president, the only people she would listen to regarding the use of troops would be generals. Civilian advisers? Fuggedaboutit.

-- The reason she "blew" the question in the Katie Couric interview about what she read? She was irked by Couric's "arrogance." Apparently it's arrogant of media folk to ask national politicians softball questions that every other politico on the planet can readily answer.

-- What does she read? The first publication she cites is NewsMax. Yep, that NewsMax: The folks who, in the late 1990s, were peddling "Y2K apocalypse" theories and Clinton "New World Order" conspiracy theories. The same NewsMax that recently published a piece extolling the virtues of a military coup in order to remove Obama.

One thing that I think will become obvious in the coming weeks: Palin will not risk any more Katie Couric interviews. She will be completely ensconced only with friendly interviewers like Hannity. Oprah will have been her most risky interview.

The way Republicans and Teabaggers are violently opposing Obama you would think they could make the connection. Of course Ayers and associates were protesting against A DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENCY in Lyndon Johnson.

Of course no one pointed out McCains associations with Henry Kissinger.

She's like Reagan in some ways, but she's too calculating, too divisive, too spiteful, too far over toward the nutty end of the Republican scale to enjoy his kind of support.

Reagan was no mental giant, but he was a very likeable guy. His appeal cut across a wide spectrum of Americans. Palin doesn't enjoy wide appeal within the reduced, withered Republican Party, let alone the broad center. There will be no 'Palin Democrats' comparable to the "Reagan Democrats" who helped elect and re-elect Ronnie.

"Oprah will have been her most risky interview."

Bingo!

Just like Cheney and Rove, she'll only submit to marshmallow interviews, and she'll stick close to Fox, where, she'll almost never appear with a tough host or another guest who might actually challenge her or make her go off-script.

Sarah needs to be forced into the open. Obama's mild criticism of Fox is a major threat to their ginned-up media machine.

I'd love to see Bill Moyer interview her. Now THAT would be an interview.

. . . her "past association" with the Alaska Independence Party? Todd Palin has admitted he was a paid- up member. Sarah Palin denies that she joined, but the Chairman of the party, Lynette Clark, has said she was a member in 1994, when she and Todd attended an AIP convention. Clark was the party secretary at the time.

http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/post...

As governor, Palin recorded goodwill video messages that were played at AIP conventions.

AIP is a far-right states-rights quasi-separatist organization that claims Alaska's statehood is illegitimate because it was not approved by a statewide referendum. AIP seeks a vote on whether Alaska should be a state, a commonwealth, a territory, or an independent nation.

Why would a state governor support such a group? Palin may be the only candidate for the Executive Branch since the aftermath of the Civil War who supported a state separatist organization.

This was barely touched on during the '08 campaign.

In America we are allowed, in fact encouraged, to believe in alternate realities.

"How is that?" you may ask.

Because in America religion is equated to beliefs, not to practices.

In a real religion, how you behave toward others is the critical factor. Jesus taught this too, but this point is lost on most "Christians" for whom beliefs trump behavior.

In America, "freedom of religion" means "freedom to believe ANYTHING you want to believe."

So the Palins, the Evangelistas, the Republicans are all free to lie, to conjure up any "reality" of their choosing.

It's freedom of speech and freedom of religion all rolled into one.

Freedom From Reality.

... if Caribou Barbie -- she of the long legs, supple curves and come-hither porn-star demeanor -- looked like Greta Van Susteren -- never mind Golda Meier -- she would have been ignored, discarded and forgotten a long time ago.

Her physical looks -- which DO NOT include any gray matter between her ears, or a compassionate heart beneath her sternum -- are her ONLY selling point. It's sad -- and tragically indicative of what a shallow, superficial and woefully stupid country this is.

If Palin didn't have her looks, she'd likely be just another baglady rambling incoherently to herself and the rats she lives with under a freeway overpass.

Got to start listening to MM again. Haven't been listening to much talk radio lately; no liberal talk radio where I've been traveling and busted soundcard in the laptop have been limiting me.

Levi Johnston stripping for pix is porn and immoral
Carrie Prejean making seven sex tapes and getting fake tits is moral.

No two conservative beliefs ever result in a standard.

I was rewarded by this nugget: Hannity asks her what she would say to those who have the "wrong idea about" her. She actually said, "Judge me on my record, and my accomplishments".

The resounding belly laugh generated by such drivel made it worth it.

A comment like that should've been followed by a laugh track. That lady's a funny blogger.

alaskan independence party? why do you pal around with unpatriotic secessionist?

Am I taking crazy pills or did she just say "lamestream media?"

That was what she said indeed.

Though you may need to start taking crazy pills just to keep up.

Yesterday I heard her struggling for a new term, she tried fringe media, then went back to mainstream. Google agrees, she said lamestream. I wonder if it is original?

profiling within the context of saving american lives...hmmmm much like how hitler profiled jews to save german lives. Great job you f*ckin fascist.

booyasu's picture

of all the things she listed that we should judge her by, she left out governor. FAIL

It was nice that she did some pre-emptive complaining about being attacked by the media tomorrow for comments she made one sentence ago. It's good to change up your M.O. once in a while. While you're at it, why not bitch about a joke Letterman is going to make a couple weeks from now?

Also that apparently the options are you either love her, or you've bought into some left-wing propaganda against her. No option that she really is an idiot. Can I ask how one botches a question whose answer could have been any list of newspapers?

It's too bad Sarah isn't making the media capital of the world one of her stops on her book tour.

She would receive such a welcome here in the Big Apple.

Palin: Todd's isn't a registered Republican..
Hannity: He's part of that group that wanted to secede from the Union. (doing quote sign to mock the suggestion.)
Palin: (Laughing) Oh, yeah. Supposedly. Right. But, um...

Isn't she lying? Todd was a member of AIP, wasn't he?

I do believe she believes everything she is saying (not sure I could say the same for Hannity).

And I could never hate someone like her (you can't hate someone for having a 90 IQ can you?), but I recognize that with her mindset/worldview and ambition she is a very dangerous person.

It was a bit surreal watching this interview, having to put myself in the mindset of her supporters to gauge her answers and then back out again to laugh. But, I think as far as the righties are concerned I'm sure they were pleased with what she had to say.

I'm not sure but I think she misused the word "profile" and maybe she just wanted to let it be known that she's intolerant. But, I fail to see how profiling would have made any difference in that case. Unless of course she's suggesting that we ransack the homes and personal affects of all 3000 muslims currently serving in the military? ...oh, that is what she's saying isn't it :( wow

She showed some more of that lovely hypocrisy by declaring it a terrorist act yet she has claimed that abortion clinic bombers and doctor killers are not terrorists. Wonderful.

Lastly, a key nugget occurred in the middle of the clip in which the both of them demonstrated a new republican tactic: distance yourself from the party. So many conservatives have left the republican ranks over george w. that they think they can win them back by pretending to be independents! I don't know about her but I know how Hannity works. He's like an effing communist, he's all about the "party."

We could have been spare all of this if someone had just given her a job as a weather girl.

disgusting, filthy, vacuous, self-absorbed c*nt! (and I'm trying to be nice).

Sarah must have remembered the banner on the magazines NewsMax is sending her. That's the least NewsMax could do in return for the clearance sale. pre-publication prices they received from the publisher in order to inflate the book sales. And Sarah can't help noticing NewsMax in her library every time she goes potty. She'll be ready for Katie next time, you betcha!
