'Tea Party Express' ads showing up on Fox broadcasts
By David Neiwert Thursday Aug 27, 2009 10:00am
It's not exactly clear why the folks at Tea Party Express are buying up so much ad space on Fox News these days. They could save themselves a whole lot of money by just waiting for Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity to their inevitable "reports" on the event and do the publicity for free.
Of course, said reportage will emphasize the current Fox narrative -- that these teabaggers are just a bunch of "ordinary Americans" who happen to be easily inspired by hysterical right-wing propaganda. What could be more "grassroots" than that?
Incidentally, this "Tea Party Express" event is being sponsored by the "Our Country Deserves Better" PAC, an offshoot of Move America Forward. It's chaired by Howard Kaloogian, the erstwhile Republican congressional candidate from California.
You may remember the "Our Country Deserves Better" folks. A little while back, they ran a series of ads comparing Obama to Adolf Hitler.
This PAC was organized specifically to oppose Barack Obama while he was still in the Democratic primaries, and its entire website is devoted to opposing all things Obama.
So much for the claims that these "tea parties" are all about "ordinary Americans" who aren't just compulsive Obama-haters prone to comparing his presidency to the Nazis.

I believe the tea baggers are just ordinary black fearing and often black hating Americans. You know, your run of the mill bigot. They are the good folks who swallow shit like death panels, Obama is a secret communist, Muslim, Marxist, Mickey Mouse Club Member, M&Ms munching, hippie black freak.
Fox loves this shit. These folks are the only audience they have left and they have to keep them fed and exercised daily by Beck and Hannity and the gang who couldn't think straight.
All Aboard the Peckerwood express.
Sure, they have their bigots, and probably more than they'd admit. But there's also a fair number of just plain old wingnuts. Either believing everything the echo machine tells them, and/or affiliated with one of the wacko Larouche style groups.
I'm still waiting for one of them to explain to me how Obama is taking away their "liberties". Haven't had much success at it yet.
Heck, ask them the right questions and they can never answer. But that doesn't dissuade them, of course, since logic isn't heir strong suit. Nor history. Nor even the truth about the deficit:

does a Tee Vee ad cost on Fox? Follow the money and I guarantee that it's not a grassroots movement.
Where has the right gone wrong? I mean right wingers were always kinda mean (see http://jviz.blogspot.com/2009/08/retraction-i... for a brief history of "conservatism") but these tea-bagging tactics will not work. This extremism i.e. going into health care town halls throwing temper tantrums and yelling and screaming, or having "tea parties" brandishing pistols, and holding up signs relating Obama to Hitler will be frowned upon, YES FROWNED UPON by the majority of the American people who are very decent at least when they realize what the truth is. This extremism only appeals to at most 40% of the electorate, and that is not enough to win an election.
They are tuning into a freaky sideshow and some people will watch them just out of curiosity but not take them seriously. I would bet that the number is way less than 40% who take them seriously. Whatever precent of Americans are mentally challenged is probably the same percent.
I would hope you are right, pissed off patricia, but this poll http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_conten... puts the number of people who supposedly "strongly disapprove of Obama" at 39%. I have no idea of the veracity of the Rassmussen poll, I have noticed it seems to lean Republican. But if there is any truth to at all, that is still a lot of people that can cause trouble, and block the Obama agenda. Which is why the rest of us must remain ever vigilant in watching out for the American people as a whole.
not really big surprise. president obama is at fault for everything.......most everything according to the (r),(i) and some democrats. specific media sources are diluting and reducing the BUSH legacy. it's been a whole 8 months or so and president obama is suppose to "change" fix everything. people that supported/voted for the BUSH administration and the congress want to blur their faults/misdeeds and smear them on president obama. the BUSH legacy is a reality not to forgotten or forgiven. for President obama to even attempt health care cost reform in my opinion is a brave move. the opposition is dirty and dangerous. they are in my opinion unable to look beyond themselves. president obama could shxt gold bricks and it would inferior gold. they clearly want him to fail.
I hear ya, constituent. Supposedly Obama was supposed to get a "honeymoon" period, but I must have missed it, if he did.
the right and others did a good job building candidate/president obama up so he would be easily perceived to have failed. he states his "promises" and intentions then everyone gets hit over the head with COMpromise. to me and i'm not concerned about agreement but shoving the BUSH legacy down the throats of oppositio/HATERs is reality/needed. i will not be told that was 8 months ago.....that's past history. bullshxt. the (r) spent big money/deficit, bailout(s), reduced regulation, war(s)/nation building, ignored pressing issues. i say know the facts about bush and company and shove them down their throats.

BUT...as I've said before...
polls...schmolls...
Even when it's something I agree with...I don't take polls seriously.
McCain got 47% of the vote. The GOP base sits between 35 and 40%. Heavily concentrated in the South and a couple of Western states. Obama will never get the Republican base.
And Indpendents are fickle. They flow with the current winds...When Obama gets a little more wind behind his back, he'll be OK with them.
But that doesn't mean the Dems don't have a rocky road in the 2010 election, since we're talking congressional districts, not the nation.
...ad space on Fox News"
In order to get the word out for free, Glenn Beck MUST keep his Show. SO TPE is stepping into the breach. Probably getting knock-down prices on that shit too.
I happen to agree with Bill Maher that Americans are a stupid lot. And that's Foxnews audience. They'll be eventually sorry for their stupidity. Just be patient.
but they'll find a way to blame the Left, Obama's long form BC, Death panels and the Kennedys for all of their woes.
Thing is they are TOO indoctrinated to realise that it's their own fault.
I wonder if they will buy ads on any other network? I doubt they will get the sweet contract deal they get with Fox.
give them air time. "Why put this shit out" if they did not see it on fox tv, hell, they might miss it, good.
because no body paid attention to his crazy ranting?
No.
Pwned...By a girl!
But seriously...PWNED!one!
Miss Kitty is right. If they aren't exposed for what they are doing and saying they continue to get away with it. Just as with Beck, when it went national and viral what he was saying the pressure came on the sponsors and as a result, he has to squirm a little more to get sponsorship.
...Or the power to make the rules.
"From that proper talkin coon slickster!"
Fucking Fox Teabaggers.
used to haave grrrrr ass roots movements where he would drag his ass across the lawn. We would have to give him his worm pills.
Your dog probably needed his anal glands emptied. Funny, when you do that cleaning it's called "expressing" the anal glands. Kind of gives a new feeling about the Tea Party "Express" doesn't it?
From the looks of their route they won't be visiting Florida to "express" themselves.
It was the "volume discount" that made it so affordable.
The health care plan is really a devious plot to eliminate and imprison all Republicans.
Once the govt takes over health care the US Government will announce that Republicanism and Racism is a psychotic disorder.
To bad for them.
Crazy people can't own guns.
So any Republican will have to give up there guns to the federal govt.
Now we have your guns.
Once the government determines you are suffering from a psychotic disorder by asking if you voted Republican in the last 3 elections you will be committed and will have to spend the rest of your time in the internment camps.
I saw it on Fox.
/snark
before this rumor goes viral.
GOP: Reformed Health Care System Could Discriminate Against Republicans!
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/08/go...
Recently, the Republican National Committee mailed out a survey to an unknown number of voters--including at least one non-Republican--spreading misinformation about the Democrats' health care reform proposal.
The most egregious question: "It has been suggested that the government could use voter registration to determine a person's political affiliation, prompting fears that GOP voters might be discriminated against for medical treatment in a Democrat-imposed health care rationing system. Does this possibility concern you?"
Of course, this hasn't been suggested except in the minds of the GOP officials who drafted these questions.
Always watch out for words like "could", "might", and the best one, "some say".
that many if not most of these teabaggers are exactly that: ordinary Americans. They may be ignorant of their own self-interest but what could be more mundane than that. You've written passionately about extremists who seek to exploit the "otherness" of their chosen enemies. It is easy to drift into that same trap. I don't dispute that many of these people are being driven off the deep end by others with corporate or ideological agendas but most are just ordinary sheep bleating because the other sheep are bleating. The fact that they cannot distinguish between the sheepdogs and the wolves that surround them makes them more to be pitied than censured.
to you. Where were these racist cocksuckers before Obama? You're a sympathizer.
Racism once was the norm among the general population and in some demographics still is. If you really feel the need to demonize the majority of these poor benighted fools you do nothing more than prove my point. I will not join you. And yes I do sympathize. Exactly as I would for a blindfolded man walking of a cliff at the direction of another. It's very very sad.
I grew up in a demographic where racism was the norm. I know what they say on a daily basis, I know what they deem to be funny, I know the superior feeling they get if they can look down on another race. They weren't simple people, they were professionals and all sorts of people. These are not some mentally challenged group. These are paranoid people who feel if they don't keep the black people at bay, they will turn on them and seek revenge for the past.
I think you underestimate the people you are speaking about and that in itself is frightening.
I underestimate them at all. And I have seen institutionalized racism that you would not believe. I still have an Apartheid era South African engineering proposal for a mine project from my early career. The cost analysis breaks out the cost of labor and the cost of blacks. That was an eye opener I can tell you. The reality was worse.
..."average Americans" to you? You've exposed yourself to be a hypocrite.
And comparing "ordinary" people who have choices, to a blindfolded man who is clearly obstructed is ridiculous.
tossing more fuel onto it.
I think that's the point he's trying to make.
Pitied? They make their own daily decisions and I have no pity for them for the decisions they have and are making. Will you still feel pity if one of these people decides to do something foolish and deadly? They are being stoked to do just that.
I would pity the victim. Your suggestion is what? That I should hate them for their ignorance and gullibility. That would require reservoirs of hatred that I simply do not possess.
Actually, Peter, I agree, but with a caveat: These are ordinary Americans whose anger is real, but the resentments being tapped into are not fresh but very old.
I've written about this:
I read your book btw courtesy of Ms Joanne who lent me her copy. The tools by which this anger is fostered and the purposes to which it is bent haven't changed much fundamentally from decades past but modern marketing and communications have dramatically increased the intensity while the internet has made mob assembly child's play. I wonder if the people who are doing this really feel they can control the mob. I suspect they will find out otherwise. In any event I still subscribe to the philosophy of that great American thinker Laurence Tureaud: I pity the fools.
Teabaggers are ordinary Americans who have learned to self-administer a powerful and addicting drug: right-wing propaganda.
tea party is joke
Reslug closet gays especially love teabagging each other.
I live in Sacramento, an expected pass-through point. I'm sure a certain number of rednecks from the already Red "burbs" will show up. Don't expect much support from within the city itself, a liberal bastion.
But the tea baggers are the same people now as before. So, whoopee, I say, sarcastically.
With all the ads missing from the Beck show, they need to fill in with cheap ads, and there's only so much erectile dysfunction to go around. And much of it is evidenced in the viewers of the Beck show.
The Tea Baggers are trying to make up for the missing corporate advertising funding from all those advertisers who've been scared into abandoning their mouthpieces.
This is code for racism. These people can't stand it that a black man was elected President. Fair and square, no recounts. They've thrown almost everything at this man because they're mad that he won. Plain and simple.
Also, these teabaggers sure are angry about government spending...you know, being that Bush is the one that started the wars, gave his rich buddies more money and oh yeah bailed out the banks! But of course it's Obama's fault. Riiiiiight...
We took our country back in 2008.
Where were the teabaggers when Bush was turning Bill Clinton's legacy of peace and record prosperity into record deficits and 2 failed expensive wars?
I may be wrong, but I suspect that one of the reasons they're airing ads for the tea party express is because such organizations are impervious to pressure to pull their ads.
