In the latest Pew Research Poll, FOX News tops all networks by a huge margin as being too critical of the president.

When Americans are asked to assess television news coverage of Barack Obama, Fox News Channel stands out from other networks for being too critical of the president. Nearly three-in-ten (29%) select Fox when asked which of six broadcast and cable news networks have been too critical of the new Democratic president, a far greater share than any other network. In contrast, no one TV network is singled out for being too easy on Obama.

It's good to know that many Americans see right through Roger Ailes and the home network he's developed for the GOP. Obviously the word "critical" has a different meaning to FOX than it does to most of us. We will criticize certain policies the Obama administration proposes, but FOX spreads lies and smears. At least Americans do understand what FOX is up to.

Twenty-nine percent is "many Americans"? Why were we so gleeful when that was about the percentage of people who supported the Bush administration and we thought it was a small number?
I'm certainly in the twenty-nine percent who dislike Fox and was/am not fond of Bush, but we're hardly the majority.

29% divided across 6 entities as opposed to 29% for 1 person You do the math OH! right you can't

Politics is ugly

34% (1/3) think nobody has been "too hard" on Obama
29% (1/3) think FOX News has been "too hard" on Obama
11% (1/10) think CNN has been "too hard" on Obama
19% (1/5) have no idea wtf is going on

the rest are spread pretty thinly and evenly across MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.

so in other words..... 61% of Americans aren't buying into the whole GOP talking point that "mainstream liberal media is being too soft on President Obama".

if you actually RTFA linked by Mr. Amato, and scroll down a couple ticks, you'll see that only 30% of Americans are buying into that nonsensical talking point.

which is, coincidentally, pretty much the same number of people who felt George W Bush had done a totally awesome job on January 18, 2009.

Hell a week or so ago they admitted their attitude toward the President. One morning on Fox and Friends they showed the front cover of the Washatonian and there was the President in his swimming shorts with no shirt. (I think it was taken on one of his trips to Hawaii last year) One of the guys on the show said he didn't think they should have used the photo and couldn't the President have stopped the magazine from using it. The blond chick said that would have been an infringement on the magazine's freedom of speech. She followed that up by saying if the President had interfered with the publication, we would have been criticizing him for that.

So she was saying no matter what the President did, they would find a way to criticize him.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

But doesn't this also, sadly, say that 71% of Americans don't recognize Fox as being an outlier on criticism of President Obama or perceive some other network as being more critical? To me that's the more scary interpretation of this statistic. Look at what TV channel is playing in any motel lobby or fast-food restaurant in rural America and you'll see the ugly truth of where a lot of this country gets its 'news' (at least here in the south). It would seem apparent that this large portion of the country dare not let its dial wander from the local Faux News affiliate.

blaring in the waiting room or lobby. Hard to find a place that doesn't though.

No conspiracy maybe but certainly not "fair and balanced".

The main problem with it was they were a large employer of Hispanics. Many of them illegals.

The problem with CNN and MSNBC is lack of balls. CNN tells the truth with the voice of a rat ashamed and afraid to be heard and scolded at. MSNBC jokes about the truth. FOX heavily researches their BS, the ambush, they are loud and bold, and they repeat their version of the "truth" and the market it as fair and unequaled. they are roaring false lions, where CNN is a squirrel and msnbc a cackling hyena. FOX deserves to be in the lead... in life The Brave bold evil often triumphs over quiet and cowardly goodness.

Americans were asked if they agreed with the statement: "The Atlantic Ocean is a large, moist area."

29% of Americans agree
31% of Americans feel like oceans are an elitist Obama plot to spread Nazi/communist/hippy piracy
40% of Americans are gasping and clutching their pearls over the use of the word 'moist'

Barack Obama: Change we can only imagine

jrbarringer's picture

... did you look at who thinks Fox is too easy on Obama? The numbers are small and the difference is within the margin of error but more self-described Democrats than Republicans think Fox gives Obama too much of a break. What's up with that??

Ed in NJ's picture

Amongst independents, by a 54-45 margin, more people felt the coverage of Obama was too easy on him, vs. too hard.

I've just watched 100 days of almost constant coverage of Congressional Republicans questioning and attacking every Obama move, and watched guys like Rove and Cheney being given prime network time to dishonor the tradition of former administrations not criticizing the current administration.

Yet non-idealogues still feel the coverage is slanted towards being too easy on him.

What I find interesting is that during the Bush years there was hardly any criticism at all from the MSM. It wasn't until well into his second term that there was really any admission that there was something terribly wrong with these people. With the Obama Administration the criticism started almost as soon as he became President Elect. The criticism can't even be called that, more like lies and smears as Mr. Amato pointed out. This only confirms my suspicions that the media was under the control of Bush$Co to a great extent.

Government + the Federal Reserve = organized crime

rustedspear's picture

The Obama administration has to fight its own battles. The press will waffle on everything, especially the clear cut truth. He needs to make addresses on everything. Biden even could give a prime time address outlining the case why torture should be investigated and putting out all the facts about the historical use of these techniques and the treaties that the us signed banning torture... The press won't tell the truth, someone must still do it

Evet's picture

FAUX is known to be the propaganda wing of the GOP. Roger Ailes has said they would be against the president. 29% is a magic number indicating the percentage of reichwingnuts who still defend W and Cheney. They are also the group of people that DHS was talking about being hateful, right wing fringe. Nothing will ever change these haters short of jailtime.

My Own Man's picture

Listen, I've been on Foxnation.com. It's crazy biased. I know, big shocker but, it really bothers me. I posted a link YESTERDAY about one of the sailors slamming Rush Limbaugh on his racism. It still hasn't been posted. This is not the first time I've posted there and it hasn't shown up. I believe that they will let SOME liberal points get through, but only the ones that fire up the sheep that love Fox because after a liberal says something like "you guys are pea brained", it's posted and all hell breaks loose. When a liberal posts an intelligent point that can't be knocked down, the comment NEVER shows up on the board. Can we please bang on their door a little? Can we please post some very intelligent comments on their site to test the theory? Please? Thank you for reading.

But I get so frustrated with the trolls on this site, I'd have an aneurism (SP?) if I spent more than 30 seconds on Foxnation.
Someone who is less apt to suffer from bursting blood vessels in the brain should definitely do it.

Any intelligent person could see that Faux Noise has always been a partisan hatefest for the GOP.

Right on John, "FOX spreads lies and smears", which are core Republican principles. Fox news and the GOP are wingnut extremists who rely on hate, fear, lies and distortion to further their lunatic agenda.

When all you faux liberals actually criticize something (anything) about the man. With the plethora of lies that got your vote for him, it would seem somebody that is progressive might be upset with the flip-flopping and capitulation he is now notorious for.

But then again, I expect nothing of substance from the faux liberals.

Not a hare's worth of difference between the fake liberals and the Bushies. Especially in Party allegiance and the total disdain for the Constitution.
