Mike's Blog Round Up
It's all Royal Wedding today! Kidding. As a Canadian, when it comes to the British Monarchy (and of course the British Monarch is our head of state), I'm a republican. I have no use for that silly family.
The Impolitic: The sad, sorry, pathetic spectacle of the White House Correspondents' Association dinner.
Pruning Shears: The high cost of fracking, and the movement against it.
The Duck of Minerva: John Bolton and the new breed of GOP chickenhawkery.
Copeland on Film: Reviewing Woody Allen's Bananas, which came out 40 years ago this week. (I'd say it's second- or third-tier Woody, but that's still very high regard. It's a really funny, and politically poignant, movie.)
Round-up by Michael J.W. Stickings of The Reaction. I'll be here all week.

Don't be so hard on "Bananas". Classic movie, and modeled after "Duck Soup", one of the greatest comedies of all time ...
While I totally agree that the royal wedding is boring, a waste of time and that the House of Windsor is silly, I don't understand what having those views has to do with being a "republican." Can someone let me in on the joke?
In that I too believe the monarchy has far outlived its usefulness and a republican form of government (as distinct from being a Republican) is the way to go.

REpublican? I seriously hope not in the form found in america. A constitutional monarchy is what makes us Canadians. Maybe sometime in the furture the house of windsor will be no more. I pay them no attention on a daily basis and if one of them showed up at my door I wouldn't fall over myself. But I'd be nice and show them a good time
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam
I recall the scene where they find the abandoned Volkswagen in a cave. Woody Allen gets in, sure enough the keys are there too. It starts right up.
His famous line: "WOW, THEY REALLY BUILT THESE THINGS, DIDN'T THEY ?"
I have to admit, it seemed funny and corny 40 years ago, but the fact is that I see a different 1960s era Volkswagen drive around almost every day. There must be hundreds of them still being driven around in my county alone.
is when they are showing him pictures from the past and he's giving his own interpretations of what they mean (and keeps the Playboy for himself of course).
The people of privilege will always risk their complete destruction rather than surrender any material part of their advantage." J.K. Galbraith
Good Impolitic piece.
