Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread
By Nicole Belle Sunday Jun 07, 2009 4:00am"President" Newt Gingrich on Da Ali G Show
Oh look, President Newt Gingrich is on the Sunday shows. Again. Gosh, I'm so glad that the media is around to tell us just who embodies the change for which we voted. And looking around, it's no better on any other show: former Bush attorney Ed Gillespie on This Week, former governor Mitt Romney on Fox News and every single milquetoasty DINO booked (I'm looking at you, Feinstein and Specter) is paired with a camera-hogging, sound-byte ready (if fact-negligible) Republican like John Kyl, Mitch McConnell or Lindsey Graham. Hello: reality-based community to media--it's 2009, not 2000. Catch the hell up already.
ABC's "This Week" - Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and John Cornyn, R-Texas; Ed Gillespie, former Bush White House counselor.
CBS' "Face the Nation" - Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.
NBC's "Meet the Press" - Pre-empted for the French Open.
NBC's "The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Gloria Borger, Dan Rather, John Heilemann, Katty Kay. Topics: Has President Obama solidified a lasting majority for the Democratic Party? How should Republicans respond to Obama, and who are their promising stars? Meter questions: Will Senate Republicans attack Sonia Sotomayor as a liberal or show deference to her? YES: 10 NO: 2; Is Obama winning the national security policy debate with Cheney? YES: 11 No: 1.
CNN's "State of the Union/Reliable Sources" - Sens. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas; Gillespie; Sameh Shoukry, Egypt's ambassador to the U.S.
CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" - In a speech in Cairo this Thursday, President Obama called for a "new beginning" for relations between the U.S. and the Muslim world. Fareed brings together a panel of experts from around the Muslim world and the region to react to and analyze the speech...and what it means for U.S./Arab relations. Plus, author Michael Lewis on the economic crisis and the future of Wall Street.
"Fox News Sunday" - Sens. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass.
So, what's catching your eye this morning?

Maybe our rightwing Orwellean media can find someone from the Whig or Federalist parties to tell us what they think.
Good thing the corporate MSM was not around in 1945, otherwise they would have plastered the faces of Nazi's all over the airwaves giving us their opinions.
The democrat party is filled with new elected republicans and the democrats which continue to be reelected are running to the center right..
Just how stupid is the comment that the democrats made ,, when they say we have to delete the policies which are good for the American citizens in their bills , so they can replace them with policies which benefit this Global Empire to be bi-partisan..
I believe this is a republican partisan government we still have and is growing in numbers.
They can steal our tax money for the Criminal corporations which are h.. bent on destroying us while moving their businesses overseas.. But tell the working citizens there is no money for their social programs or hardships.
New Orleans citizens are still living in s.... while the Global Empires are partying with our money..
Americans are losing their jobs , health benefits , retirement , homes while the Elite and Corporate Empire enjoys the better things in live on our backs.
The Change that is coming certainly is not coming for Americans...
The upturn in the housing is by the realtors which are buying homes lost by citizens , so they can either rent or sell later to make a profit on our hardships..
How will President Newt be able to look into the eyes Putin and read his soul if he can't even read Sacha Baron Cohen.
Hahahaha!
It is difficult to decide who is the bigger prick in that clip.
I'm not Gingrich fan, but S.B Cohen is a flaming Asshat.....IMHO.
"S.B Cohen is a flaming Asshat"
Why is that? Because he exposes people's idiocy, bigotry and hypocrisy? I can hardly wait for Bruno http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzoRD1Qvm10
I hope that you enjoy the movie.
I wish that I had my money back from Borat.
Cohen does not come away clean by exposing the hypocrisy in others, he has to push the point beyond adult decorum to expose the stupidity in others.....he offers nothing and deserves little.
We agree to disagree.
What exactly were you expecting when you paid your money to see Borat btw? Charlie Rose?
Where you would find a republican with self respect?
Every republican poll is nothing less then a lying asshat. Amoral, greedy, selfish, lying asshats.
republicanism is a mental illness!
A very severe one too, that is brought on by abject stupidity - for which there is no cure.
Wow, that's a bad line-up!
Glad I have other things to do this afternoon. :)
The lead topic on FnS: "Are We Headed Towards Socialism?"
And away from corporate fascism? Oh god, not that!
Wallace asks Shelby if we are headed towards Socialism. Naturally, he says we "are going down the wrong road" with "all the government intervention".
My question for Shelby: "How did we get where we are?" It wasn't because of "government intervention".
shelby was sure glad to have all the government intervention available to make sure foreign car manufacturers could set up union free shops in his state...
Yeah, and those welfare queen bastards down south sure loved their "socialism" tax checks from the yankees and the left coasters. While we were sending $1 to D.C. and getting back $.71 from the feds so that the rednecks could sit on their bigoted brains, getting drunk, beating their women, and mollesting their farm animals.
How these mother f**kers who hate the American people with a vengence can get elected is absolutely astonishing to me!
WH Eco Adviser Austan Goolsby told Wallace that, "The last Administration didn't just push this problem down the road, they put it in a can, shook it up, and dumped it in our lap."
Shelby: Obama's "public plan" would ruin "The best health care system in the world".
Denmark's healthcare system?
WTF?
That is "THE PLAN!"
But he will deliver it with a very beautiful speech. There, feel better now?
I have always believed what my very wise grandfather said: "you can judge a person by the company they keep."
Rahm Emmanuel, Larry Sommers, Tim Geithner, AG Holder,.........etc...
I am not impressed. DLC Clinton-flunky republican-lites, every single one of them. Relics from the 1990's culture that was such a miserable failure.
I have definitely lowered my expectations for this president.
second this....
Listening to Richard Shelby complain about the size of the deficit is enough to make me puke.
Goolsby slaps down Shelby's accusations by noting that "the previous administration" created this huge deficit, and the supposed smaller size under Bush was merely the result of "accounting gimmicks". Remove those gimmicks, and Obama's budget will actually *reduce* the deficit by $2T over ten years.
According to Kristol, the big news from Obama speech in Egypt was "he said almost nothing about Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons is "unacceptable", and therefore, was suggesting Iran developing a nuclear weapon was "inevitable".
And our own intelligence agencies say that Iran has no such program.
who treatened Obama's life while withdrawing $85 K for a bank in St. George Utah while spouting scenarios that sounded like they came from Glenn Beck?
I made several. My last one was this:
"Crazy man with NY plates withdraws $85 K from bank in Southern Utah.
Anybody check Vwgas?"
Apparently ten days after he made his threat to a bank teller while getting his cash the man was arrested outside a Nevada casino near Las Vegas.
...None of the above....news about republicans? YAWN.....
Krauthammer says Sotomayor thinks she is "superior" to a white male.
He uses the word "superior" at least seven times (Sotomayor never used it once).
Krauthammer doesn't get the ability to feel. I find that strange given his own suffering doesn't seem to have done much at all to understand immediately what Soto implied, which is humane non-literal interpretation of the law. The constitution itself is a humane document which provides framework intended to the SCS primary function before Scalito-school of Dominance is King.
Later on FtN, Gingrich uses the word "superior" twice himself to describe "what she (Sotomayor) said".
How dare a latino woman think that. Everyone knows stupid rich conservative white-guys are the smartest people around - and better than everyone else. What an arrogant racist she is.
It's the size of my stomach after that huge breakfast I had! Wow! Was it good!
I don't watch any of this crap anymore. "We" took back the government; now, if only "they" would represent "us."
Keep it clean.
The Fox lineup was completely different than listed above. Now the FtN lineup appears to be totally different as well (Axelrod & Gingrich, not Feinstein & Kyl).
Hillary on This Week.
It appears someone screwed up.
Maybe they didn't update it.
Then they screwed up.
I forget, but I do remember Graham and Romney from last week.
republican Sunday morningfest. Where have all the Democrats gone?
CBS' "Face the Nation" - Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.
when?
so far, it's been david axelrod, and now newtie g.
If it were not for the internet, we'd have no way to fight the assault on liberal values by the Corporate media. The Big Lie is the "mainstream" media and it's total control on the American mind by a handful of companies.
Okay, I'm still trying to figure this out:
On FtN, host Harry Smith asks Gingrich about "convicting an innocent detainee that claims to be guilty simply to be a Martyr."
Gingrich then suggests that "If we let someone like that go", they are likely to go out and "achieve martyrdom" by "blowing themselves up", and therefore (I'm assuming), we should not let *anyone* go???
Gingrich compares/equates "the failure of the government to "run" GM as an example of why "the government should not be running health care".
What's wrong with that metaphor? Let me count the ways.
And how stupid will Newt look if GM recovers? Is he betting/hoping GM fails?
will recover even if the taxpayer's have to borrow billions and billions to shovel at it. Government's own strings are attached to the bailouts, so the final outcome will be a leaner meaner capital generating corporation with nary a union to be seen! By the time the next election rolls around, it will be interesting to see how much union support Obama and the Dems get after making all these concession demands of the unions and NOTHING for demands on the banks, insurance companies, and Wall Streeters.
Anybody else notice the politics as usual display in Washington? From lack of accountability for torturing, to bailing out of big corporations, to spending like drunken sailors, to appointing loyal fundraisers to diplomatic posts? Seems to look almost identical to the last 8 years of Bushie. So much for that Change mantra repeated in those awe inspiring speeches.
next election. Vote for me-I am the agent of change-if you force me to, and I actually listen. Hmmm. Should make it a landslide victory.
Am I just uninformed?
Twice, on the subject of Clinton's Israel/Palestinian peace talks, George will refered to Israeli Prime Minister Ahud "Barack" instead of "Ahud Olmert"?
Gaff of middle name?
Corporatist media bullshit on the rancid blue eye and transcendentalist/religionist bullshit in the pulpit. Thank Horus/Mythra/Zeus for NFL football. Is the season over yet?
Oh, lest I forget . . . . . Fuck you, Dick Cheney.
that I would rather watch tennis than MTP.
This just caught my eye.
New report finds big problems in war spending
Commission presents bleak assessment of how billions have been spent
"But the government has no central data base of who all these contractors are, what services they provide, and how much they're paid. The Pentagon has failed to provide enough trained staff to watch over them, creating conditions for waste and corruption, the commission says."
This is better i suppose.
