He's the new hero of the right but I wonder how they would feel if they knew that Rep. Joe Wilson is yet another Republican hypocrite?
On Wednesday night, Rep. Joe Wilson , shouted “You lie!” at President Obama when he said that the healthcare bill would not cover illegal immigrants. “The supporters of the government takeover of healthcare and liberals who want to give healthcare to illegals are using my opposition as an excuse to distract from the critical questions being raised about this poorly conceived plan,” Wilson said the next day in a campaign fundraising video.
However, in 2003, Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ healthcare. The vote came on the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, which contained Sec. 1011 authorizing $250,000 annually between 2003 and 2008 for government reimbursements to hospitals who provide treatment for uninsured illegal immigrants. The program has been extended through 2009 and there is currently a bipartisan bill in Congress to make it permanent.
I saw some well-meaning Republican doctor on MSNBC today saying the federal government should do this very thing. Uh, doctor, no need to reinvent the wheel...

On the surface, such restrictions sound effective as a cost-control method
But in the Public Health arena what happens if an illegal comes into this country with tuberculosis, or AIDs or SARs? If they can't get treatment their disease could turn into a pandemic, where like Typhoid Mary they could spread their diseases not just to others in their economically depressed area, but also to their bosses, and their bosses to their own neighbors.
Another factor would be their kids. As long as they're considered automatic citizens by virtue of their birth here (XIV Amendment), what about their needful medical treatments?

I did a stint at the TB clinic in our county. What they were seeing at the time was also the rise in drug resistant strains of TB and a lot of co-infection with HIV and TB. We had one notorious individual that would go back to her country for a while and then return and seek treatment.
I worked at one company that did mandatory TB testing as part of the pre-employment physical, the company employed a very large percentage of minorities mainly Hispanic and there were quite a few legal and illegal immigrants included in them. In my group of about 20 hired, there were 2 positive results from the skin test, although I do not know if they were confirmed through a x-ray.
An underlying meme in all this ruckus is 'I don't wanna pay one cent to provide healthcare for(fill in the blanks). Thanks to the Joe Wilson distraction, the current one is illegal aliens. So another hot-button has been pushed and will dominate the discourse for a long, long time. And if the RW continues it's run of luck, it will blossom into whole sale immigrant bashing ande more Tea Parties.
it distracts from the REAL problem. There are far and away many, many more tax-paying, law-abiding, US citizens going without care or coverage than there are illegals seeking treatment.
the beat goes on. there are people out their that don't understand that the market is not perfect. they don't understand that when the number of losers in the game of life get to be a large number that's a problem for everyone. we are now at a time where the number of people losing is weakening the collective. unfortunately, individualism has become a powerful force/mindset for some.
problem is they are not really, truly individuals. We all would like to fancy ourselves individuals, but in reality we cannot get along without others. If you break it down to the most basic of issues no one creates him or herself; you don't gestate on your own (yet); you don't raise yourself on your own (yet).......someone else teaches you to read; somebody grows your food; somebody hauls your garbage away for you.......
These morans need to be pushed to take their position to its logical conclusion: an illegal immigrant's kid shows up gut-shot at the emergency room. So the kid is turned away and dies in the street? Who cleans up the child's body? Does the local morgue wagon come around and pick it up (spending more taxpayer dollars), and drop it into an unmarked mass grave (spending more taxpayer dollars), or do we just step over it and wait for the worms and maggots to take care of the problem?

That means that if Americans travel overseas, they should not visit medical care institutions in other countries? And those who actually PLAN to travel to India or China for surgery? Hell no! It's out of your country?

I work in a huge hospital in Las Vegas, our city would wither without tourist traffic and our tourists come from all over the world. I have personally taken care of people from all over the world and it's been a distinct pleasure. I work in a stroke center and I know that we've saved people's lives and in many cases saved them from more debilitating injuries, had they not received care. No one asked where they were from as they placed them in the ambulance, they knew they needed help and made sure that they got it.
My mother and her friends travel regularly, many times overseas, they've also gone to Canada and Mexico. I would hate to think that she would be ill treated, should the need arise, because she was a visitor/tourist. We are better than this.

While I'm appalled that the President of the United States has started using the term "illegal alien" to describe persons who are undocumented (implying the act = the person, and that the person is less than human), I am even more bothered by the assumption that medical personnel can -- or should -- be expected to act as immigration agents.

Federal law requires hospitals to give emergency care to everyone, including illegal aliens. Naturally, the legal resident patients wind up paying for this, pushing up medical costs for the general public and bankrupting hospitals.
Since the Federal government, at the behest of leftie ethnocrats and greedy sociopathic businesses has allowed illegal aliens to stay here, and requires the hospitals to treat them, it's only fair that the Feds reimburse the hospitals. The money is going to hospitals, not illegal aliens, and Obama's bill gives far more than emergency care anyway.
But of course, the post ignores the facts, and just bleat their "Ohmifsm Republicanz are teh evil stoopid hipocrits" crap.
