How Many Republicans Does It Take To Respond To #SOTU2014? Three. UPDATE: That Makes It Four

The GOP civil war rages on, requiring three separate responses by Republicans to tonight's State of the Union address in order to showcase all shades of their party.

President Obama's State of the Union address must scare the hell out of Republicans, because we're not going to get one response to it. No, we're getting THREE.

The official Republican Party response will be delivered by Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers. Because women.

The Tea Party response will be delivered by Senator Mike Lee. I'm sure Ted Cruz haz a sad, but he did at least get to play on Face the Nation this weekend, so there's that.

Then there is the Rand Paul response. Because he feels like it and doesn't have to speak officially to assume we all want to hear what he has to say.

I loved this analysis:

I get that political parties have trouble speaking with one voice, but this is ridiculous. Why put forth this collection of your worst spokespeople (I won't pre-judge Rodgers) and muddle your message. I think this is called putting your worst foot forward.

The latest Washington Post poll shows that a miniscule 19 percent have confidence that Republicans will make the right decisions for the country. So my question is, why would Republican leadership allow this free-for-all?

My answer to that question? Because they have no choice. They cannot seem to manage the factions roaming free with billionaire dollars in their party. Besides, it gives them three bites at the ideological apple. There's never a bad time for some conservative spew.

Also? Fox News wants the eyeballs. Mine will be focused elsewhere.

UPDATE: And this makes four:

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) announced Monday she will deliver her own State of the Union response in Spanish that will be televised by CNN, Telemundo Univision and other channels
