Two people in Kannapolis, North Carolina have been arrested in the “brutal murder” of a 15-month-old girl, according to police. The toddler suffered horrific injuries including broken bones, torn intestines and damage to her vagina.

Police say 30-year-old John Travis Turner and 20-year-old Alisha Nicole Carlisle were arrested on Monday for the murder of toddler Malaya Heun, according to WMBF. 

Chief of Police J.W. “Woody” Chavis called the toddler’s murder “one of the worst cases of child abuse I have seen in over 30 years being a police officer.”
