While everyone here at C&L balks at the idea of a Trump presidency, I am most boggled by Trump's ham-handed flip flops since he became the presumptive nominee. How on earth does he get away with it?

Since the Indiana primary, when Trump vanquished his last two primary opponents, Trump has appeared to waffle or 'open for negotiation' his stand on hard-core GOP issues like taxes and the minimum wage.

Brad Thor, for one, is raising red flags that Trump is not a "true conservative." Via Salon:

“We keep on hearing that Trump is going to become ‘more presidential,'” Thor continued, “but even after his Wisconsin win, he’s still going on about that Rafael Cruz-JFK assassination garbage and calling George Will a ‘loser.’ I think Donald Trump is interviewing for the most important job in the world and we’re seeing him at his best — and it’s horrible.”

Thor refused to back off the assertions made in his Facebook post, later saying that “if you look at Donald Trump’s character, he particularly has a very disturbing character trait, which is a tilt toward authoritarianism. And throughout history when you have leaders that tilt toward authoritarianism, very bad things happen.”

Wohl said that Trump’s ability to “get down and dirty with people” is a feature, not a bug, but Thor replied that Trump’s “got more positions than a porn star,” which gave Kelly pause. “I don’t want Don Rickles running the White House!” he added.

Of course, the claim that Trump is not a "true conservative" is their excuse when he loses in November. It's the exact same excuse they used when McCain and Romney lost.

As my husband Driftglass has said, "maybe when your car crashes into the same tree every time you leave the bar, it isn't the tree." Maybe, just maybe, the problem with Republican un-electability is conservatism itself.
