Bernie Sanders Greeted With Jeers For Endorsing Hillary

A raucous crowd of Sanders delegates refused to accept Bernie's plea to help defeat Trump and support the top of the Democratic ticket.

I'm not surprised by the anti-Hillary response since many Sanders delegates are die-hard supporters and the Democratic primary was a hard-fought affair.

I also know that the "DNC email dump" has refueled the anger of many heading into the convention, but today it appeared for a short time like they were booing Bernie himself for wanting to support the Democratic party... to defeat a fascist like Trump.

Bernie began speaking to his delegates in Philadelphia and continued with his usual stump speech, a substantive speech that helped galvanize the progressive movement.

And then he switched to the general election and said, "We have got to defeat Donald Trump." He paused and his audience was in with him until he said, "And we have got to elect Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine."

The room erupted with anti-Hillary chants, followed up by Bernie chants, as he tried to explain why they needed to support the top of the ticket.

Bernie said, "Brothers and sisters, brothers and sisters, this is, this is the real world that we live in. Trump is a bully and a demagogue. Trump has made bigotry and hatred the cornerstone of his campaign.”

He continued, "Throughout this campaign he has insulted Mexicans and Latinos. He has insulted Muslims. He has insulted women and African Americans."

Boos continued to rain down and then a chorus of "we want Bernie" drowned them out. Sanders thanked them and continued...

“Trump is a danger for the future of our country and must be defeated, and I intend to do everything I can to see that he is defeated! ”

The crowd was still jeering.

"And I intend to do everything I can to see that he is defeated."

I think it's normal for these feelings to come out, but let's hope it all calms down.

I'm a proud member of Blue America -- we raised a lot of money for Bernie -- and I don't want to see this divisiveness bring a Trump victory after all we've worked for. Trump would do a lot of damage to this country, and set back the goals we all have as progressives many many years.
