Jack Smith, the special counsel appointed to oversee the criminal investigations into the stolen cache of classified documents at Donald Trump's Florida Mar-a-Lago resort and the January 6, 2021 insurrection, has quite an impressive resume.
That's probably why the one-term President has lashed out at Smith on Truth Social, and Trump has even targeted his wife. Smith has overseen high-profile cases during a career that has spanned decades, but one involving a figure such as Trump is a first for him.
Smith left his position as a specialist prosecutor based in The Hague investigating war crimes to take on investigating any crimes connected to Trump regarding the documents and the former President's role in the insurrection. The Hague, you guys. It doesn't get better than that.
That's why Trump went into meltdown mode, calling Smith a "weaponized monster," then, of course, the one-term loser brought up Hillary Clinton, who is sitting down somewhere, sipping some Chardonnay while totally not being locked up or under investigation.
"This fully weaponized monster, Jack Smith, shouldn't be let anywhere near the political persecution of "President Donald J. Trump." I did nothing wrong on January 6th, and nothing wrong with the Democrats' fix on the Document Hoax, that is, unless the six previous Presidents did something wrong also," Trump wrote.
Oh, and controversial Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene took some shots at Smith, too. Greene went as far as to call for defunding the Department of Justice.
Smith has already subpoenaed local officials in Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Those three states were central to Trump's failed plan to cling to power following the 2020 election — and he demanded any communications with Trump, his campaign, and a long list of aides and allies.
Following his appointment, Smith made the following statement:
“I intend to conduct the assigned investigations and any prosecutions that may result from them, independently and in the best traditions of the Department of Justice. The pace of the investigations will not pause or flag under my watch. I will exercise independent judgment and will move the investigations forward expeditiously and thoroughly to whatever outcome the facts and the law dictate.”
Trump has never been held accountable for his entire life -- until now. For that, we give Jack Smith the highly coveted, very fancy, and extremely prestigious good guy Crookie Award!
