On Fox News, host Julie Banderas asked guest Matt Bennett, formerly of the Clinton White House, whether the economy is “going quite well” compared to four years ago.
Yes, Bennett said without hesitation. He pointed out that gas is going down, more oil is being pumped now than under Trump and that the market is doing well. He acknowledged that “things do need to improve” and he predicted that things will improve and people will feel the improved economics by Election Day.
Banderas’ other guest was Jessica Anderson, of the rightwing Sentinel Action Fund super PAC. She appears to have no credentials in economic issues, which is a good thing considering how shockingly dishonest and/or ignorant she is. Don’t ever let her near your checkbook.
Anderson predictably argued that Americans will not feel an improved economy by Election Day. “The debt and the spending and the overregulation is long lasting,” she claimed.
But then came the jaw-dropping falsehood: “Look how long it took President Trump to turn the country around after Obama's miserable economic state,” Anderson said with a straight face. “The same thing is going to be said about Biden.”
Bennett laughed out loud. In fact, by almost every measure, the Trump economy deteriorated after Obama. It’s something of a mixed picture under Biden but it’s nothing like what Anderson misled Fox viewers about. Just last week, Fox Business’ own Larry Kudlow, a former Trump economic advisor, had to ackowledge the economy is having a “fantastic holiday season.”
But instead of correcting the record that Banderas almost certainly knew was false, she said, “Okay, that's all the time we have.”
On Fox, propaganda is mandatory and truth and facts are optional, at best.
