Ted Cruz Blasted For Joking About Going Back To Cancun During Latest TX Freeze

Cruz should be apologizing to Texans for deserting them in their hour of need, not joking about doing it again.

Texas has been in the middle of a freeze and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas has been asking residents to conserve power so as to avoid an outage.

People’s lives, health and property are at risk. Newsweek reported that in February 2021, when Cruz flew to Cancun in the middle of a freeze and widespread power outage (and blamed his daughters), there were 246 related deaths. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar later said that the financial loss likely fell between $80 billion and $130 billion.

But Sen. Ted Cruz thinks it’s a laughing matter. He tweeted advice to his constituents to wrap pipes, cover plants, stay off icy roads and be safe. Then he added, “And, if it gets too damn cold, join me in Cancun!”

I noticed he said nothing about providing any help to anyone who might need it.

Fortunately, the Houston Chronicle had some choice words for Cruz’s brand of “humor.” Noting that he “hightailed it to balmy Cancun while hundreds of his constituents died in the dark,” the paper’s editorial board asked, “Who laughs about a deadly storm that left millions without power and totaled billions in financial losses? Someone with a cold heart and warm hands cradling a piña colada.”

Cruz is up for re-election this year. Let’s hope someone with a warm heart and is willing to get his or her hands cold in an emergency, can replace him.
