Over the weekend, President Donald Trump appeared to lose his grip on the last few remaining brain cells he had left to his name, after he published a barrage of three dozen unhinged, AI slop posts to his struggling Truth Social echo chamber.
The topics of those posts ranged from bizarre, dystopian, hellish AI self-promotions to his Space Force idea to owning the moon.
But tucked among them was a suggestion to rename the state of New Mexico to New America, following along with his recent theme of changing the names of basically everything, including the Kennedy Center, the Gulf of Mexico, and Lake Ontario.
In his Truth Social post, the president included a map of New Mexico with the word "Mexico" crossed out in red and replaced with the word "America."

New Mexico officials made quick work out of telling the president precisely where he could shove that idea.
The state's governor, Michelle Lujan, kicked off what would end up being a deluge of outrage and backlash over Trump's name-change proposal, making it crystal clear that New Mexico's name "isn't up for debate."
In a post on her Facebook account, Lujan took the president straight to the woodshed where he belongs, noting that her state has borne the New Mexico name since before the US was a country and Trump's name-change game is absolutely nothing more than a pathetic attempt to "distract" the American people from his "disastrous" war in Iran and "soaring" gas prices.
Meanwhile, her state is "providing families with free childcare and college, protecting access to health care and investing in housing. While the White House wastes time coloring on maps, Nuevo México is busy doing the work."
Lawmakers across the state were quick to jump on board in telling Trump that it simply ain't happenin'.
Rep. Melanie Stansbury wrote, "Oh hell no! Our state’s name carries generations of history, culture, and family—and it belongs to us. We’re New Mexicans. Period.”

Rep. Gabe Vasquez made it clear that Donald Trump does not get to simply "erase" the state's history, while Sen. Martin Heinrich confirmed that he will treat Trump's New Mexico idea the same way he's treated all of the president's other ridiculous name changes: "Three things I will always call by their actual names… The Gulf of Mexico, Lake Ontario, New Mexico."
It seems Trump caught wind of the criticism rather quickly, and it's left him quite triggered, to say the least, as his Truth Social feed is now chock full of shitty memes and AI videos attempting to troll the state of New Mexico, including one AI-generated video that shows Trump going up to a sign that reads "Welcome to New Mexico" and slapping an "America" sticker over the word "Mexico" before breaking out into his celebratory YMCA dance.
He wrote in the caption of the post: "Many people suggested changing the name of New Mexico, one of the great vote cheating states of all time, to NEW AMERICA. So much more prestigious and beautiful for the people of that potentially incredible State. Wow, I Love It!!!”

While his devout MAGA followers ate up the idea in his comment sections, a Reuters/Ipsos poll has already confirmed that the idea is less than popular with Americans.
