Saturday Night Live just kicked off its 52nd season with a cold open that's all but guaranteed to send Donald Trump into a hissy fit for the ages, as the late-night sketch comedy show took aim at Donald's bizarre admiration and obsession with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and infamous aide Natalie Harp's deeply unsettling obsession with him.
Following the show's four-month break, the very first sketch upon its return opened with Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) dropping in to check up on Mayor Mamdani (played by Ramy Youssef) ahead of the nor’easter that's been raining Hell down on the East Coast.
SNL's version of President Trump said, "I missed my day 1, Zohran Mamdani — because for some reason that no one can figure out, I really, really like you," hot on the heels of the recent real-life meeting between the pair last week. "We’re like one of those unlikely animal friendships, like when a tiger gets together with a baby goat. When I see stuff like that, I want to text it to you and say, this could be us!”
The comedy sketch segued into Trump's boisterous threats against Iran in his recent UN address.
"I took your advice on Iran for my speech at the UN," the fake Trump says.
"Wait, so you said we need to work towards a ceasefire and sustain peace?!" SNL's version of Mamdani responds, prompting the parody Trump to fire back, "Oh, I could have sworn you told me to say, ‘I’m going to annihilate you!'"
Cue Ashley Padilla, SNL's parody of Trump aide Natalie Harp -- who has dominated real-life headlines over the last several weeks as more and more of her deeply unsettling and frankly unhealthy obsession with President Trump has come to light -- who bounces into the scene singing, "Baby boy, you've been on my mind!" to the tune of the famous Beyoncé song.
"Isn't she great?" Johnson's Trump gushes. "She's like the girl from Obsession, but blonde."
Padilla pulled a crazy face to make her Natalie parody look positively insane before nervously laughing, "I'm kidding! I'm totally normal! I'm totally normal."
Turning to SNL's Mamdani, in a rather skin-crawling whisper, she warned, "If you hurt him, I will end you."
I can just imagine Harp whipping out her laptop in the Oval to show her dearly beloved Donald that someone's making fun of him again. I just hope she makes it clear that, no matter how badly he wants to, banning SNL isn't actually an option.
