Earlier this month, President Donald Trump attended the Dallas Republican midterm convention, dubbed the "Trumpapalooza," where he first floated the idea of essentially bribing American voters into saving his ass in the impending midterm elections by offering $5,000 checks to every American, provided that Republicans retain control over both branches of Congress.

With midterms rapidly closing in and numerous polls predicting a brutal Blue wave that will almost assuredly cost Donald Trump his presidency in the end, the president has continued to hammer home his big, fat bribe-check idea -- a move that could add an eye-popping $1.35 trillion to the national debt.

But according to a new NBC News poll, his pathetically desperate idea won't even work.

Between September 11 and 15, NBC polled a sample of 1,000 registered US voters and found that they were twice as likely to vote for a candidate who opposes Trump's $5k bribe plan than one who supports it.

A dismal 21% stated that support for Trump's checks would make them more likely to vote for a candidate, while 46% said it would make them less likely. Among independent voters, 45% said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who endorses Trump's bribery attempt.

And to make matters even worse for the president, NBC's poll is not the only one showing that his pathetic attempt to pull himself back from the brink is not working.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,143 Americans and found that 63 percent oppose Trump's $5k dividend check proposal: 4 in 10 Republicans and 9 in 10 Democrats.

Only halfway through his second presidential term, Donald Trump has spent this year in more hot water than ever, due in large part to the war he launched with Iran in February. What was supposed to last only a few weeks, according to him, has now stretched into its seventh month, and to say there's no conceivable end in sight would be a massive understatement.

Meanwhile, average Americans are absolutely drowning under the effects of what he's done.

The national average for regular gasoline is just under $5 a gallon, and diesel prices have broken records. Inflation is crippling as grocery and housing prices soar to astronomical heights, as billionaire-backed companies continually refuse to pay their workers a living wage.

Put simply, people are suffering; many are suffering worse than they have in their entire lifetime, and they know precisely where to point the finger. At the end of the day, Americans know damn good and well that a measly $5,000 is little more than a couple of rent payments. It's simply not enough to purchase our suffering for any longer than it takes to vote these people out and enact real, life-saving change.
