Rep Drunken Van Orden has some seriously misplaced priorities. He's facing a lot of problems at home, where rural hospitals are closing, people are losing their health care coverage, farms are going bankrupt, and people are going hungry, all because he voted for the One Big Bullshit Bill and supported Trump's tariffs.

But don't waste your time expecting him to make things better for anyone. He's got more important issues to address, or so he thinks. Things like banning yoga pants from the House.

Now DVO has a new distraction, er, I mean, crusade - making motorcycle helmets voluntary instead of mandatory in Washington, DC. What is not clear is why he chose this waste of time. His office claims that he often meets with groups advocating for voluntary helmet laws, but his proposed bill would only affect Washington, DC. I can't imagine that DC's chapter of Hell's Angels is very big.

It also doesn't make much sense for him to do it for his own benefit, since the riding season is coming to an end and he won't be back for another term after he loses in November.

Maybe it's the voices in his head that are telling him to do this. It makes as much sense as anything else.

DVO's bill has no cosponsors and will likely not even be heard, much less pass. Even less likely to see the light of day is another bill by DVO that would make the distinction between motorcycles and e-bikes, another pressing problem that no one is aware of.
