Miami-Riots---May-19,-1980-.jpg
Miami May 19, 1980 - shades of another long, hot summer.

On this particular day in 1980 riots were consuming Miami with alarming speed. Begun as the result of an acquittal of Police Officers, it spoke volumes about the deteriorating race relations in the Florida metropolis. Ironically, a similar disturbance would shake Los Angeles to its core a decade later.

But on May 19, 1980 there were special news programs, of which this via CBS and Dan Rather, all sought to ask the question why something like this would happen seemingly so far along since the 1960's. The answer was simple - some things never change and race relations were (and still are) among them.

And May 19th sounded a lot like that in 1980.
