The Ten MOST DANGEROUS Organizations in America-- UPDATED

Jane Hamsher found this little gem from FamilySecurityMatters.org.

What would you guess would be on the list? Blackwater? The KKK? The John Birch Society? Skinheads? Pfffft. Amateurs.

No, no, no...FSM takes "danger" to America very seriously: (click the link at your own peril, I've cited it here so you don't have to)

10 ) Think Progress

9 ) Muslim Student Association

8 ) CodePINK

7 ) American Civil Liberties Union, National

6 ) Family Research Council

5 ) Center for American Progress

4 ) League of the South

3 ) MoveOn.org

2 ) Universities and Colleges

1 ) Media Matters for America

Um, "universities and colleges"??? Never mind the ridiculously transparent hatred for watchdog groups like Media Matters, they think that higher education is dangerous. Just definitive proof that being stupid and uneducated is valued among the authoritarian right. As much as this is mockable (and it is, make no mistake about it), it's also so sad to think that the chasm between "right" and "left" (and I hate labels like that, the definitions are so ambiguous) look more and more unbridgeable.

UPDATED: MBH pointed out to me that it's worth noting FSM's advocating of George W. Bush as "President for Life". The mind reels. That is, if they had a mind.

Was she drunk when she came up with this list?

I guess the KKK dropped from the top 10.

I am so disappointed that C&L didn't make the list. We...Must...Try...Harder! Anyhow, congrats to TP and MMFA.

Seriously she puts Universities and Colleges at #2 Media Matters for America at #1 the ACLU at #7 and the Family Research Council at #6?

Even from a conservative view point this makes no sense.

No no, the best part is that they are implying that it is not just some certain ones, but apparently ALL universities and colleges. Oh my sides!

I love how 8 ) is a smiley

I clicked on the link and got an error message from the fsm server. Maybe they took it down.... Don't you just wish C&L was on this list? lol!

Where's teh gays?

The author of this "list" is named Jason "Rantz", which is clearly what Jason is doing.☺☺☺

The gays are standing behind the CodePink ladies. They're all rising to action - we're still sitting in our chairs - - don't ask, don't tell, ya know...

Of course the colleges and universities are dangerous!
A thinking educated populace is a danger to the ruling elite. We should only be educated as narrowly as needed to serve in the military, any technical expertise can be farmed out to other cheaper nations whilst our critical thinking is best left to private ideologically pure think tanks.

And it's off to the camps with you if you can understand whats wrong with this.

FamilySecurityMatters.org is just a front for a Christian fascist organization that seeks nothing less than the overthrow of the first secular republic in history and the installation of a theocratic dictatorship.

Apparently all those "sleeper-cells" of brown muslims are no better than the *11th* most dangerous organizations in the country.

Meanwhile we have a guy on YouTube telling students that voting won't do any good, Please help counter the damage this guy is doing by passing this video on to others:
Re: STUDENTS: A CHALLENGE FOR YOU

the biggest danger is the status quo mentality which manipulates the public, robbing the oof their political power. The power is in the primaries.

OMG! I just read the article on the website. Nothing on the Onion can touch it for comedy. It is scary that anyone could be stupid enough read that and take it seriously.

And guess who their greatest enemy in America would be?

What a shame to see someone like that fall into the clutches of darkness and hate.

Just a matter of time before this country is crushed under the weight of its own stupidity.

I would say that day is coming sooner, rather than later.

Andy @ 2:

I guess the KKK dropped from the top 10.

The KKK probably helped them narrow their list down.

Who do these criminal organizations believe they are?!? And what to they think that this is a free society? No no no...This is America...we don't tolerate freedom here!

He is probably the one most responsible for spreading the neocon propaganda and misleading the American people. He's gotta have a spot.

What a shame to see someone like that fall into the clutches of darkness and hate.

A lot of people flipped out from the shock on 911. It freaked them out so much that they all say I was only pretending to be liberal. . . I was a Clinton person but now I see I was wrong. . . I was a progressive but now I realize I was wrong . . . and stuff like that.

Bush Co then proceeded to convince people a tsunami of evil dark skinned muslims with flying wings was on the way to attack America and the rest is his-story

Education cures Republicanism and that scares them to death.

The ten most dangerous Republicans (dangerous to Republicans)

10. Mitch McConnell
9. Karl Rove
8. Duke Cunningham
7. Rush Limbaugh
6. Rudy Giuliani
5. Alberto Gonzales
4. Tom Delay or Jack Abramoff (take your pick)
3. Scooter Libby
2. Mark Foley
1. Larry Craig

That's step # umptysquat of the 14 EZ steps to creating a totalitarian police state: demonize the truth tellers and the educators; turn them into enemies of the state. When the public has been sufficiently whipped up into a mindless frenzy, ship them off to death camps.

Um... I just went to the FSM site and tried to look at all the "Must Read" stories (I'm going to a party later and I need some comedy gold).

I get an "unable to connect" message on every link.

Now that's closed minded.

My first conclusion late morning on 911 was "How the hell did this happen? Where the hell is the most sophisticated intelligence and defense system on the planet? Bush has been warned for six months something is coming down what the hells up with that?"

Woooohoooo! Us academic types are at #2!!!!! My peers and I will try harder to be at the top spot for next years' list, watch out media matters!

Actually, being on that list should be some kind of badge of honor or something....

So, this just is added as proof the the Present Administration is trying very desperately to dumb down America. Get them on to the Bible nipple as early as possible, don't allow any real science in the schools, create museums for children to make them think humans have only been on the planet for 6000 years, and who cares if only 4% of American kids can point to Iraq or Iran or Afghanistan on a map of the world.

Hell, our president is trying hard to keep Iran from developing a weapon he can't even pronounce. The decider can't seem to say nuclear without it sounding like he just fell off the back of a turnip truck.

I'll just wear my Canadian Tee-shirt out to breakfast this morning. People over here are laughing at the US. So freaking sad. I feel sorry for the young people of today. I'm 70, so I got to live through what it turns out were the best of the US years I guess.

I just love how the right-wing of the Republican Party hates the ACLU. I am still trying to figure out what they really have against an organization that's only purpose is to protect the Bill of Rights. Oh sure, it doesn't much worry about the 2nd Amendment because the NRA has that more than covered (from all firing zones), but at least they are fighting for EVERYONE's rights.

Just to clear something up, a couple of the early posts here refer to "she" as the author, so let there be no confusion, Jane Hamsher of the always remarkable firedoglake.com *found* this list. At many levels Jane is a true hero and kudos to her in this instance for digging around in dank, twisted little corners of the blogosphere where few of us have the stomach to venture, and reporting back.

Actually I'm frequently surprised by how mild mannered and "normal" (whatever)some of these people look. Then you read what they're saying and its just a total disconnect.
Even Babs Bush threw me for a loop.I figured she was pretty down to earth(for a Republican)but these Bush types have that act down cold. Now she just scares the living Jebus out of me.There's some kind of Sci-Fi mind meld "Day of the Triffids" thing going on with this whole terror scare that seems to be getting worse.

10. A belief that the GOP is still the party of Eisenhower and that the Democratic Party is still the party of Kennedy. The GOP has been totally absorbed into the BORG, the Democrats are rapidly succumbing.
9. PACS and elections that are privately funded
8. Lobbyists.
7. An effective monopoly over all broadcast news, print media and entertainment by 6 corporations (News Corporation, GE, Disney/ABC, CBS Corporation, Viacom{most benign of the group}, Time/Warner), and propagandists who think themselves journalists.
6. A corrupt FCC that prostitutes itself to those it is supposed to regulate.
5. Electronic voting machines
4. Corporatist poseurs who sell out their offices.
3. Elected officials who no longer serve the People
2. Those corrupt judges, whose assigned role was to be the last line of defense protecting the Constitution, but who no longer serve the Law or the Constitution. The last hope turned to ashes.
1. Your Television©®™, which for the most part brings to the table a largely apathetic, willfully ignorant, eager to be distracted, shallow electorate, the hypnotist whose message is "Be forever afraid...and in your fear, revert to being self-absorbed, fearful children....trust us..we will handle things for you children...be afraid...".

All of which combine to give us the Patriot Acts, The Military Commissions Act, Gitmo, Blackwater, Secret prison, atrocity, wars without end, illegal wiretaps, power that does as it pleases and answer to no law, reverence for property rights above human rights, elevation of privilege above merit, the prerogatives of the rich and powerful above need, brutality above humanity...ad nauseaum.

Republicans dun likes them that there edumacation.

Ignorance is bliss; knowledge is power.

I am one miserable SOB.

How'd the Family Research Council get on there? I get their "Prayer Wish Lists" to pray for defeat of SCHIP, defeat of ENDA, defeat of the hate crimes legislation, all sent by Mr. Norman Bates--I mean, Tony Perkins.

(C'mon, I know there are two people named Anthony Perkins, and one is a dead actor.)

I think the true, at-bottom slogan of the religio-cons is, "We're good people--we have a perfect right to hate."

Perhaps we are being too harsh on the inbred - maybe it's just their nature, much like a mildly retarded person would grapple with deep concepts like humanity, maturity, intelligence, and fear of getting wacked on the pee-pee by some bearded guy up in the sky right behind Uranus. Their pathetic suffering from delusions of self-grandeur and an innate need for everybody to pay attention to them, at times left to question the truth in their own un-edited version of events, as their tallow-rich diatribes and con-artist confessions render an image of a self-interested people who erroneously view themselves superior to men, dogs, flounders and all other aquatic life forms. Who knows? Until enlightenment strikes them in the face like the business end of a fist, you and I are just going to have to endure whilst they try and figure it all out, hopefully before they soil themselves.

"We've got to stop Code PINK and those pesky colleges and universities!"

My god this is hilarious. Waiter I'll have what they're having :-)

The Family Research Council?

She must have been drunk. That's a nest of conservative Christians.

My top ten list would include them, but replace the others with groups like the RNC, AIPAC, PNAC, Faux News...

If you check out the link you'll find this gem about number four on the list, League of the South:
"The League of the South is a sexist and racist group of Southerners who call for the cessation of the South."
Apparently there exists an organization in the southern United States that believes that everyone south of the Mason-Dixon line, or thereabouts, should commit suicide.

Colleges and Universities!! Not a surprise at all. As a journalist I was covering a big event at John Hagee's Cornerstone Church just a couple of weeks ago where I heard this "threat" called out many times during the evening, particularly by keynote speaker Dennis Prager, a conservative Jewish radio host. Here I was in the midst of over 5,000 people in this evangelical mega-church and it was very clear I was amongst people who have a very different view of the world from university-educated me!

To OP:

Yes, it does make one pause and reflect how far apart the views, and general moral principals, have grown, and have now created a (seemingly) insurmountable rift among too many of us. There has always been an inability to communicate between the political extremes. But now, ~25% of the country are firmly entrenched in the authoritative far-right agenda. They absolutely refuse to venture outside of their comfort zone. They cannot be reasoned with.

In order to save our country, the remaining ~75% have to cut them loose and move on (sound familiar?).

Wouldn't, in their view, the ACLU be the most dangerous? From what I can tell, they're the only actual group ("colleges and universities" is so vague it's ridiculous) on the list that does anything other than post stuff on a Web site.

Could you imagine how ridiculous it would be to put a list of dangerous conservative and put Matt Drudge at the top of it? HOw silly.

Where was PNAC, Blackwater, GOP, Fox News, Glen Beck, Rush, etc... on that list?

That's what I like about your writings, Nicole, when it comes to mocking those idiots, you do it most eloquently (sorry if I left some chapstick on your ass.)

Anywho...

What hypocritical politicians are ok?

What no C&L on the list?

Where are the African-Americans, Blacks, and anything not white?

These people are fucking nuts. They are just nutjobs. Who in their right mind would believe that Media Matters is the #1 group to watch?

The hilarious thing is that the only thing MM does is collect transcripts!

Colleges and Universities? I've heard that tripe from the wingnuts for decades. Doesn't surprise me a bit.

IMHO we will have to fight another civil war with these folks. The right wingers aren't ever going to just shut the fuck up.

I am not a Muslim, but I take somewhat of a greater offense to the mentioning of "Muslim Student Association", and that no one has actually got offended by this or even commented on it either.

Not to anyone here, but since they (FSM.org) mentioned this on the list, this is down right bigotry!

I wouldn't expect nothing less then the vile that comes out of those sites, but I'm ashamed that no one else mentioned this (or may have taken an offense to it).

Not surprised they would list places of education, and organisations that try to make sure people don't lose their civil liberties.

An educated person questions things, and argues if something is right. The ACLU will help fight if something isn't right, and the rest of the 'dangerous organisations' report what is wrong, and the lies being spewed.

How could they leave out Planned Parenthood?!

Larry Craig's old lover has just come out:

LMAO

http://wonkette.com/politics/larry-craig-scandal/exclusive-i-had-sex-wit...

Much TOO, TOO easy to mock.

Like trying to imagine an Intelligent Creator conversing with Bush.

Or considering the Pope as the 'Earth's representative of The Holy Father', after seeing him squatting, naked, with diarrhea, over a sh*t-hole in the Vatican

Why is it the only people who criticize higher education are the ones who don't have one?

OliverDreams @ 37:

How can you leave the Rupert Murdoch media empire off the most dangerous list?

He is probably the one most responsible for spreading the neocon propaganda and misleading the American people. He's gotta have a spot.

And I say again.....

Kucinich 08

what, murdock raised money for hillery! uhhh didnt he? kucinich08

Colleges and University's ....pure comedy gold!

Family Security Matters and other organizations like them are the danger.

James @102

James,

The entire thing is a travesty of bigotry and profound, willful ignorance. I think that is the point of all these comments.

I'm surprised these morons didn't include "Meals on Wheels" in their list. You know, so they could expose their obvious "librul" (socialist) agenda.

Nothing more dispicable than people who actually care about their fellow citizens, and then try to help them! Especially when they could be morally superior republicans, (defend the indefensible), and spend their entire life destroying anything, and everything, that has ever successfully advanced the common good.

The problem with people this stupid (FRC), is that they lack the minimum I.Q. level required to ever figure out how utterly clueless they are.

I am a proud poster over at Think Progress ; but I believe that C & L is its equal ........

Both sites are absolute necessities during this period in American history ; I'd like to thank both sites , their inventors , managers , bloggers and everyone else associated.........

repugs are the old drunkard, lowly "uncle" to the dems studious cousin*

I hope this is a farce, some Onion thing. I knew they were stupid, but dang.

*(I know, I know)

The Ten MOST DANGEROUS Organizations in America

10. White House Press Corp
9. NPR
8. CBS
7. ABC
6. NBC
5. CNN
4. Fox News
3. NSA
2. Homeland Security
1. Bush Administration

Just 10? I bet it was hard to keep it short.

TB @ 92:

She looks like she cooked up that site design in her spare time and is running it off a bog-slow Pentium machine.

And she's not a very good writer either.

Who is "she"?

The writer of the article is a man.

FSM is down ... Looks like they got Hacked ... Hey ... Don't look at me!

yellow dog says

The Family Research Council?

She must have been drunk. That’s a nest of conservative Christians

That''s kinda what I thought, too. Maybe it's a ringer of sorts to deny Right Wing bias or something. Or some type of wingnut preacher rivalries. Who knows with these crazies.

hmoore @ 107:

Why is it the only people who criticize higher education are the ones who don't have one?

You know, I've never noticed that before, but come to think of it, it sure does appear to be true in my experience. From now on when someone starts that tripe, that's just what I'm going to say to them.

Considering the IQ of your average republican (91), it makes perfect sense that Universities & Colleges would be #2 on the list!!

CD @ 4:

Seriously she puts Universities and Colleges at #2 Media Matters for America at #1 the ACLU at #7 and the Family Research Council at #6?

Even from a conservative view point this makes no sense.

"She" didn't make the list. An outfit called "Family Security Matters" made the list.

This is more proof that's it's not a good idea for brothers & sisters to have children together!

There was a time when I thought that all adults should be allowed to vote. After reading the insanity of that site I don't believe that anymore. These people should have no voice in deciding anyone's political future. Hell . . . I'm not even sure we should feed them.

It reads like Bill O wrote it.

They forgot the repuke party and all organized religions (though they did include Muslims).

Education is very dangerous in totalitarian societies. The Nazi's also went after the intelligentsia. In Orwell's 1984, it's the educated who have to be watched closely by the govt because they tend to figure things out, thereby threatening Big Brother. The radical right don't like watch dog groups like MoveOn, and heaven knows they don't want people thinking for themselves.

No surprise. That's how right wing authoritarians think. They would have loved Germany in 1939.

Is this funny or ridiculous?

But to paraphrase O'Reilly: "M-Fer, I want more [iced tea] of this."

They are all ridiculous, but the FRC puzzled me at first, before I realized it is Perkins who is pushing for a third party candidate if repugs don't come up with a FRC sycophant. That list is nothing to get offended about, but to be laughed at.

10 ) Think Progress
9 ) Muslim Student Association
8 ) CodePINK
7 ) American Civil Liberties Union, National
6 ) Family Research Council
5 ) Center for American Progress
4 ) League of the South
3 ) MoveOn.org
2 ) Universities and Colleges
1 ) Media Matters for America

That is a political list. As is inevitable, 'security' is going to be abused for political ends.

That's a bizarre list from the FSM. But the Flying Spaghetti Monster's noodly appendages wave in mysterious ways...

http://www.jasonrantz.com/

Is the clown who came up with the list. I've already sent him an email about mediamatters

hmoore @ 107:

Why is it the only people who criticize higher education are the ones who don't have one?

That question is of a depth that the political right is not prepared to explore.

It may go back to a research done some years ago when they asked kindergarteners if the kids should share their toys.

The ones who didn't have any replied YES, the ones that had toys said NO.

Hey C and L community.
C'mon we have to try harder.

"Um, “universities and colleges“??? Never mind the ridiculously transparent hatred for watchdog groups like Media Matters, they think that higher education is dangerous"

This is a reference to D. Horowitz's slander about leftists taking over college campuses (Students for Academic Freedom and Campus Watch).

2 ) Universities and Colleges

Because a mind is a terrible thing....period.

It's good no one has ever heard of these right wing lunatics.

dubya President for Life??...I'm speechless. I'm searching for an explanation. It has to be an inside joke. Ok, you got us, FSM! Funs over. That's it.

Damn, I'm just pissed I didn't make their list. Have to try harder!

2 ) Universities and Colleges include Liberty U and Bob Jones U.

the entry for 'universities and colleges' is a dead giveaway. the KGB must run that website, this is obviously hardcore commie pinko propaganda, only commies hated intellectuals, and colleges and universities prior to their revolutions. this communist website (and obviously anti-american) must be a front. who else but the KGB wants to wiretap every american, torture people and destroy libertarian organizations? didn't you watch Rambo II? the KGB's expertise in torture is renowned. I suspect that the KGB has infilatrated the right wing and who else? (as lefties are already branded with being 'dirty commies' the only sure way to dupe the american public is to masquerade as staunch right wing fanatics.

Someone should let her out, before she messes up the carpet.

Of course universities and colleges are among the most dangerous organizations to conservatives. Colleges expect you to do crazy things that most conservatives know little about such as support your conconclusions with facts.

Their just trying to be funny folks. They were most likely laughing as they wrote this garbage.

So.... explain to me please?

Just why do we give insane people the time of day?

We are all aware that the REAL REPUBLICAN PARTY BUSINESS AND PLANS AND ACTIVITIES ARE BEING DISCUSSED OVER SECURED INTERNET SITES... the names of which we most probably don't even know.

For anyone not familiar with what I am saying... consider this. Businesses have a LOT of internet information that is cloaked from the general public using secured lines of communication. This is as it should be. And those SAME businesses use those SAME secured transmission lines to plan and execute their political plans to "stay in business".

So we should be careful not to discuss too much over non secured lines. If we got a few of them, we would FREAK THEM OUT. In fact if we kept talking about THEIRS, we would freak them out.

It sounds more fun than reading the rantings of an insane person at their freeper sits.

The hatred for the ACLU by people who claim to love America has never made any sense. Fighting for civil rights is extremely patriotic!

As for the colleges and universities thing, well. Sure, it's a Horowitz line, and BS, but they didn't even bother to say "liberal universities." Higher education itself is the foe! It's proof these people are both stupid and dangerous.

Family Security Matters... they're not interested in family or security, and they don't matter.

Pullease!!

You must, must include info about the author http://www.jasonrantz.com/

It puts it all in hillarious perspective.

Family Security Matters

Interesting group we've got here.
