Lou Dobbs, "always a good man of business," as Marley's Ghost in A Christmas Carol: "Business! Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were all my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!"

He harbors illusions of political office, I would love to see this attempted. I'm betting the election of Al Franken has made Lou want to get his freak on politically.

Nope, not possible. Remember that at the end of A Christmas Carol, Scrooge had turned into a wonderful, kind and generous man. Now, who here can picture Dick Cheney as kind or generous? No one. I thought so.

Oh puleeease...Cheney is the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come.

at one time, Lou was a well respected financial 'analyst' on CNN.

Somewhere along the way he caught 'Glenn Beck disease' and went off the deep end. Anybody have any idea as to what happened to Lou? Is he simply a senile old man?

bonsai pajamas's picture

Hannity has his "great american" schtick. Beck has his teabagger schtick. And, until he got the poor man murdered, O'Reilly had his "Tiller the baby killer" schtick. Lou heard through the grapevine that fox was looking to fill a timeslot with someone who has a combination birther/anti-immigrant schtick. What you perceive to be a plunge for Lou has actually been a long, well-orchestrated audition. And it worked.

jhunter99844's picture

BlueGal believes in God, yet publishes such unkind pictures.

Very enlightened.

Bluegal aka Fran's picture

And actually Marley is the lesson-teacher in Dickens. Maybe once Lou Dobbs is gone he'll actually have something to teach us about loving our fellow humans. Calling human beings "illegals" doesn't cut it with me, and that has something, but not everything, to do with the fact that I'm a believer and try to see all humankind as children of the God I say I believe in.

I've pointed this out before jhunter but you don't seem to get it. You think by pointing out my theism you'll get people here at C&L against me. C&L, its staff and readers, are open-minded people. I don't attempt to convert anyone to my religion, ever. In fact I often express that to try to convert someone shows willfulness contrary to what my idea of God might want for another.

Please don't bring my religion into this conversation again. You and I have said what we need to say here.

ron's picture

don't disagree with you in any way. We can all worship in our own way and it's none of anyone else's business.

jhunter99844's picture

"You think by pointing out my theism you'll get people here at C&L against me."

Not against you. Just questioning the obvious. Your cheap and hateful photoshop addiction lowers the tone. So pedestrian, so high school. The "open-minded" spirit you speak of, an excuse for coarse and childish insult, is doubly caustic when coming from one of faith.

"That which you do to the least of my brothers that you do onto me."

So when you mock Dobbs, your faith says you mock Christ. So I am not being the close minded...you are.

I call you on it, you get upset. Then change the direction by mentioning conversion. Total non sequitur.

Then the school marm tone, talking down to me like I somehow broke a rule. "You and I have said what we need to say here." Really? You don't control what I say, or how much I say.

I have not been abusive, broke none of JA's rules. All I did was expose hypocrisy. Not earth shaking hypocrisy, not evil gut wrenching hypocrisy, just little nibbling Christian hypocrisy.

I still haven't been abusive.

And I'd hardly call Dobbs less than fortunate.

jhunter99844's picture

I thought the clip was me getting into it with some teabaggers last August. It was nationally televised. Then of course I looked at your clip! Love that movie.

"WTF did you call out BlueGal for?"
She is a Christian and as I said before, when she mocks Dobbs, she mocks Christ. NOT MY RULES>>>HERS!

Dobbs is a disease not a cartoon. The trivial and pedestrian pics makes progressives look like kids, lowers the tone of the discussion and makes light of his deadly hate speech.

Apologize? NEVER!

mudshark's picture

So when you mock her?
And I take it you think all Christian's are exactly alike.
You do see what you've done , don't you?
Do you know about the temple, and what Jesus supposedly did there?
I say supposedly because I don't necessarily buy into all of that stuff.
anyway, you try to salvage whats left of your day.
I'm outta here.

No more involuntary overdraft fees. Ironically, the RNC health care plan does cover abortion. Here's a first: A Southern state which doesn't send a black guy to Death Row for murder. It's hard out there for a poor little rich boy. Is Barry already preparing to leave Afghanistan? Palindrone throws McCain under the bus. She also claims Katie Couric is biased. Will Reid be the Robin Hood of health care reform? Swine flu really gets around. Ten broke states, but no partridge in a pear tree. Two hundred million children are hungry. Exposure to BPA sterilized manufacturing workers in China. Ray LaHood wants airline workers to stay hired. Mormons have no sense of irony when it comes to gay rights. Less unemployment claims =/= more jobs.

On a macro-level, scientifically, the swine flu epidemic is a prime example of bacteria(human) infestation on a host(the earth). The pollution of human and their created material waste on this living earth are evidence of this disease. And generations of their children after them, unfortunately, will suffer by this custom(life is a terminal disease).

If any of y'all want to see a really good version of A Christmas Carol, forget the Jim Carrey crap.

See the version with George C Scott. He preens, he glowers, he stomps, he's never the tremulous and fearful old man. They also have the most angelic looking Tiny Tim ever and great score.

Funny thing though is it's casted a little odd. They had Edward Woodward as the Ghost of Christmas Present, who came to attention as a murdered cop in the Wicker Man, and of course later the Equalizer (rumor has it it's being adapted into a movie starring Timothy Dalton). Frank Finlay played the ghost of Jacob Marley, best known in the 1977 BBC adaption of Count Dracula as Van Helsing. They had Michael Gough as one of the charity men, later Alfred in the Batman movies. They had an early appearance by Roger Rees as Scrooge's nephew, delivering complicated lines as if they were only conversational.

But weirdest of all was Scott, because of his controversial portrayal of Patton, Samantha Eggar who was controversial because of a movie she made with a gross scene from David Cronenberg's The Brood, and David Warner, typically the bad guy in movies like Tron and Time After Time, as an excellent Bob Cratchett.

I agree with you choice on "A Christmas Carol". I also enjoyed "Scrooged" with Bill Murray.

On another note, I just read this horrific article regarding a new Obama Administration appointee who is strongly connected to Monsanto and other agricultural corporations. Apparently he's so into pesticides that his organization chided Michelle Obama for having an "organic" garden!!!:

http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2009/11/...

I just wish I could make it through one day and learn of some truly good news from Obama. Maybe Eric Holder bringing an indictment against Bush/Cheney, or Obama declaring that no more troops will be going to Afghanistan as long as a corrupt government is in place there, or having him meet with the head of China and make a strong objection to their "black sites" of torture for citizens who come to the government with any complaints (heard this story on NPR yesterday) etc.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The Republican National Committee has instructed its insurance company to remove a provision from the committee's health insurance policy that covered elective abortion for employees.

"Money from our loyal donors should not be used for this purpose," RNC Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement released late Thursday. "I don't know why this policy existed in the past, but it will not exist under my administration. Consider this issue settled."

In a note accompanying the statement, the RNC said this type of coverage dated to 1991.
The Politico newspaper first reported the story Thursday.
