David Axelrod agrees with Dunn on FOX NEWS: 'Not Really A News Organization'
By John Amato Sunday Oct 18, 2009 10:00am
David Axelrod backed up Anita Dunn on ABC's THIS WEEK by saying that he believes FOX Noise is not a news station. It's taken a while for them to say this publicly and at least Axelrod didn't back off her comments.
“I’m not concerned, Mr. Murdoch has a talent for making money,” Axelrod said.
“The only argument that Anita was making is that they are not really a news organization, if you watch even its not even their commentators, but a lot of their news program. It’s really not news, it’s pushing a point of view and the bigger thing is that other news organizations like yours, ought not to treat them that way. And we’re not going to treat them that way, we’re going to appear on their shows and participate, but understanding that they represent a point of view.”
It's much more than a point of view. FOX News should be considered a right wing PAC. They actively set up rallies and protests. When will they start raising money for republican candidates? Will FOX advertise a big network special and take a full day out of their schedule and raise money for the 2010 mid terms? Hannity already does republican fundraisers. I might have given them an idea...

what it is? A rightwing propaganda machine.
Ya.
a monster on the loose
would make a nice Senator from Oklahoma. Can they have three?
The argument that there is some kind of difference between the opinion and news portions of Fox News is completely negated by the network's promotion and coverage of the Teabagger protests.
Especially when compared to the network's coverage of protests that the network doesn't support ideologically.
the opinion programs are not news programs when they display their Fox News logo on all their programs?
by lying.
who like living in trailer parks for generations on food stamps while Cheney's private jet flitters from golf course to golf course and Geo. HW Reagan gets a stage to whine, "eberbody is pickin' on muh boy", and Ma Barker Bush loads her Thompson machine gun and points it at MSNBC.
President of FOX, Roger Ailes was hired by Geo. Bush Sr. and invented that Willie Horton scam against Deukakis in '88.
But didn't commercials masquerading as "news" cut-ins or promos, etc. get banned or something? FalseNews is basically that. A political advertisement. Shouldn't it, at the very least, be made to show in HUGE characters, that this is in fact not News, but opinion and commentary? It used to be the standard to do that whenever an anchor gave editorials back in the day.

get together love fest, but who is the guy circled? Is that sneezy?
sleazy
The only person on Faux that I think is "fair and balanced" is Shepherd Smith. I used to think that about Greta van Susteren until last year's presidential campaign. She took a very strong interest in Palin; it was obvious she supported her.
Those 3 clowns on Fox and Idiots in the morning have all made negative comments about Obama, including lying about him being a Muslim. Even on their "news" show in the morning, "America's Newsroom," Megyn Kelly and Bill Hemmer throw in their personal opinions every now and then about an important news story....real news anchors don't do this.
I'm sick of Faux.
Retired with Walter Cronkite
and died with Peter Jennings.
The next most prominent newscaster:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_jiJb5QBnE
just more subtle. They performed framing and they also performed by not investigating things. It is lala land to believe otherwise.
(delete)
faux news is actually one long violation of the Campaign Election reforms forbidding partisan commercials within a few days of an election, and should be prosecuted by the FEC.
But the conservative activists on the Supreme Court might over-turn that with the Hillary case.
You're missing something -Major- here:
"When will they start raising money for republican candidates??"
It's kinda obvious that Allowing any/all morally challenged hypocrites and liars free (& factually unchallenged) air-time on their 'news' channel ... & then pondering if they intend to start raising money for them??
I've heard it costs money to place ad's on TV; But NOT if you go on Faux News ... it's like an all expenses paid advertisement for your Righteous Crazy.
Facts?!? Money ?!?!? -Who the hell needs that shit when you have Faux News and Their Dollar-Deity Stepford components?
Faux News is a PAC, and these politcal operatives (and opportunists) should be treated as such.
As Rush himself would proudly say, "Let's call a spade a spade".
Who's next? Rush Limnbaugh?
Whose next is commenters who do not play along with the meme.
If you hum a few bars, I'll remember it. Or is it the Alamo?
Today's meme is destroy all media.
Or is your medium a massage?
If I got a massage from a medium, would it be free and would she use oil?
rise.

Just unmasked. They are a pr and propaganda arm of the RNC masquerading as a legitimate news outlet. Its the masquerade I want destroyed.
While all this criticism of Fox is accurate and true, you aren't much better informed watching ABCNNBBCBS. Good, impartial, unfiltered reporting will not come from any of these organizations either.
...between being uninformed (ABCNNBBCBS)and misinformed (Fox)
If you want to tell me those organizations are not involved in the spreading of dis-information, tell me why NBC was knowingly hiring military experts for their war analysis who were paid by weapons manufacturers.
there is a difference between bowing to your corporate masters out of fear, and actually having an agenda you're promoting.
Not defending them but there is a difference between greed/fear motivated incompetence and driving a political agenda. One can be ignored, the other is out to get you.
I think those pharmaceutical commercials are out to get me and they are on every major network. Not just news. TV is poison.
Journalism today is bad. M'Kay?
that South Park tick you have developed.
Xanax?
Full disclosure I just watched a South Park episode an hour ago.
The commercials are worse than any of the content.
I merely advise not buying whatever they're selling.
So, don't pay for cable, satellite, or your local channels, or your converter box, or your up to date television, because that is part of what they are selling you.
So long as you don't do any of that, you are pure and you can watch TV,.
Is football. I don't even have cable. Problem with commercial advertising is for the most part people don't apply any critical analysis to commercials. They just watch them open minded. On one hand you have Average American, on the other hand you have hundreds of millions of dollars and decades worth of statistical, psychological, sociological, marketing research arrayed to specifically fuck with your mind. And a lot of it is aimed at kids.
Ya, I'm with you generally speaking when it comes to the idea of personal responsibility when you say "I merely advise not buying whatever they're selling." but realistically that doesn't acknowledge or take into account the realities of the situation.
OK now youre with me Harry.
If you look at the MSNBC website, or the today show, most of the stories revolve around selling something. For the most part, stories are selected which have the ability to move a product. Indeed some stories are masquerades for an actual commercial and script put together by the corporation and read by the anchors as if it were news.
without information either way. They all suck.
my impartial news from Mom,
and my unflitered news from Lucky Strike.
Oh shit. My unfiltered news comes from a camel.
I think I may be a terrorist.
I'm just a union thug.
Fox is Fox, they can and will belly ache about how the White House is unfairly characterizing them; but, America knows better. The followers of Fox are a breed onto themselves, their base of racist denying propelled activists relish the excrement that is spewed in concert with GOP and small "c" christian talking points. America is not surprised by these White House statements, nor alarmed. the reaction to Fox being officially branded has been one of congradulatory respect and expectation. The Fox crew and Murdoch also know what they are; they may cater to the delusional; but, they know where their bread and butter comes from and they prepare their servings daily. Nothing to see here, move along.
takes the name Axelrod?
His early aspirations were to be a porn star.
Lance instead of David.
This is Jewish porn. David is appropriate.
Wait'll you see Goliath.
I think I read in one of Senator Franken's books that FoxNoise once avoided losing a lawsuit by admitting that they are in the entertainment business, not the news business. It had to do with the level of fact-checking that is required of a news organization relative to a gossip venue. 'Nuf said.
rBGH lies on fox

only hourly updates, they are using false advertising to claim "news".
Did you see the nyts week in review? David Carr (is he their new Opinion Media Editor?) is weighing in on the fox slime machine and the gentleless of glove slaps across the face by the admin. to said slime machine.
He actually says "trading punches with cable shouters seems a bit too common".
ooooo - I guess he won't be inviting the prez to the cotillion.
Douchey doucher nyt rag formerly known as all the news that's fit to print.
surely he can out debate them and face time in front of their demographic can't be bad.
I wouldn't go near that place until they quit making shit up either. It just shows their audience that the white house accepts their bull also IMO
at least to their auduence. Why doesn't he go on and disprove the BS.

"This song is about the utter failure of the US mainstream media to speak to truth to the corrupt, destructive power of successive US regimes; how its uselessness helps to erode democracy; and how many media outlets are simply uncritical mouthpieces for the government or particular parties (e.g., Fox News should rightly be considered a mouthpiece and wing of the Republican Party)"
The fact that Fox News is NOT a news organization should be hammered and hammered. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the other MSM news organizations cut them so much slack. Fox is nothing more than a propaganda network, so why pretend that it's anything else. Seriously. I don't care that they exist. They have every right to free speech. But let's be clear about what they are and the fact that they are pushing an agenda. And while we're at it, call them on their lies.
When was Fox ever a "news" organization? Never.
Fox is not now nor has it ever been a "news" organization.
It may have started out "conservative" politics but devolved into Republican partisan and reactionary politics. It isn't even a conservative propaganda network, but a reactionary one.
I've been to Viet Nam & Baghdad so I can speak from experience, while Obama didn't start this mess he will have to deal with it. We have been there for 8 years; give him time to come up with an approach that won’t keep us there for another 8. Bush & FOX news didn't offer anything but more hate & hopelessness. These young men & women are worth more than just partisan noise. They need wisdom & leadership, not redneck noise like Bush’s “bring it on”.
